Came here tonight for my favorite fish fry and it didn't disappoint. Chilly 60 degree evening for Florida. This made it a bit uncomfortable inside with the doors open to the outside. The service was excellent even though they were very busy.

First time at an Old Salty Dog and it was great! We had the special Bloody Mary and shared the deep fried hot dog and fries. Good service, food at atmosphere. Good place to watch football as well.

Atmosphere was great, sat outside. Great place to sit in nice weather. Service was great, we got our food quick. Ordered the mahi island tacos which were ok, I would try something different next time. Not much flavor to them, or the pineapple slaw which was just basic Cole slaw with maybe 3 small pieces of pineapple mixed in. Slaw was disappointing. This place seems like the kind of place that would have crab legs on the menu but they don't. Another guest at our table ordered the hot dog and said it wasn't very good, large hot dog though. Someone else ordered the fish and chips and really enjoyed it, large piece of fish too.

Well it's a somewhat hidden location which you may miss the turn first time? If you like boats it's attached a marina and boat dealer, Yeah. The restaurant is laid out nicely with inside and patio seating. Outside gives you a view of the marina but not much else. Service was great our waitress on top of everything. The menu choices will keep my guessing but everything we ordered was done very well and served fast and hot or cold as needed be. It's a chain so you'll have a choice depending on your location.

Excellent excellent excellent Mahi Sandwich! One of the best we've had! The service was fantastic! We sat at the bar on a cool summer night! Lots of people there, looked like lots of regulars at the bar! We will see you again, yummmmy!

Fun times to be had at the Old Salty Dog!

Love the Old Salty Dog! The owner Phil is hilarious and plays in the band here on Wednesday nights. Our friends are regulars here and so we tagged along to see what all the fuss was about. Food amazing. Rum barrels amazing. Live music amazing. Service and servers amazing. Overall atmosphere amazing. Oh did I mention this place is amazing??? Look, if you want delicious food and very reasonable prices in a beach vibe atmosphere with "Beachy" drinks or just a beer you've come to the right place. I had the grouper tacos blackened with a side of the lightly fried parsley potatoes- it was delicious!!! The rum barrel drunk was huge and just damn good!! We will return! Dog friendly- outdoor seating on the water!

    Great to be pet friendly!

Pricey, just for hotdogs. Fries were over cooked, dried out and cold. Service was great. Seating on the deck was nice.

June 2, 2026 - Two for Dinner, our 36th wedding anniversary. (we had last been here a year ago for…read morethe same occasion.) First up - PARKING was awesome!!! we parked in their lot and had plenty of choices. yay. Second - When I had made a reservation for our special occasion I was asked "Inside or Outside" which I picked Inside. I was then ASKED "window table?" to which I happily confirmed yes that would be great. I then confirmed to my wife. 6PM, Inside, & Window seating. When I arrived I was quizzed if I had a reservation. Yes. Then I was asked did i want to dine Inside or Outside and I replied I had confirmed an Inside, window reservation. And he brought us to our inside aisle non-window table. When I asked why not a window as I confirmed - I was informed they only give them out when they are available and he can't guarantee it? I then asked "Why do you ask then when the reservation is made?" He just walked away. Probably not a good candidate for a public or customer facing role. As others have stated (and I in my first review) the staff and server experience here is highly variable. 1/10 Third - Our server was excellent and gregarious. we were seated well over 5 minutes until we able to tender a drink order, but then everything went very smoothly. The bus staff seems "nervous" and inexperienced, I had to ask twice for more water. The bread and butter was a little disappointing. one of the rolls was ok, the other either old, stale or did not sustain the heating process very well - inedible. There were two flatbread crackers in the basket as well. 3/10 Fourth - We both got a cup of seafood bisque soup. This was a smooth and flavorful soup. Chunks of seafood of various types and a little shot of sherry on the side to pour on. (my 10 year AA medal pushed it away - smile) 9/10 My wife ordered a Pompano special with scallops and the chef special vegetables and green beans. This was very substantive entree and she did bring half of it home. The fish was nicely prepared and properly cooked, the vegetables were cooked al dente and not just something on the plate - good job. The green beans so nice as a vegetarian / vegan plant based eater I am going to order them as my entree! 9/10 I ordered a shrimp cocktail as part of my main. I haven't had shrimp in a few years, and these were fairly decent. the cocktail sauce was disappointing as I am a Kelchner's horseradish and Heinz Chili Sauce kind of guy.... pink from the 50/50 mixture. The sauce here was a restaurant pack can of catsup and a splash of tabasco. yech. 5/10 Also as my main an Arugula Salad with Roasted Beets, NO goat cheese, Almonds, Honey-Citrus Vinaigrette, Raspberry Coulis. A VERY nice salad with an extremely fresh and beautiful collection of arugula lettuce, and the roasted yellow and purple beets were nicely cooked and prepared. The dressing was light and tasty and not some gloppy oil slick of goo. 10/10 Finally, our server brought us out a little keylime pie to commemorate our occasion, we were actually pretty full from the dinner and declined dessert but she brought this out and we took a few pictures!!! VERY nice touch!!! Thank you. I think the kitchen has improved over the last three reviews and last three or so years. The reservation and front desk and the service is variable and inconsistent, still. The communications and reservation situation is flawed - a reservation is between two parties - if we agree on something the expectation is we BOTH deliver (I arrive on time and pay, and the establishment seats and accommodates as per the expectation) Both should expect what was agreed to? Obviously this is all personnel and seasonally dependent here in Venice, FL, now that we enter the slow and less tourist oriented I think the employees and the patrons will be less wired and unpredictable. My wife and I have discussed a mid summer visit to the Crow's Nest - maybe for my birthday in August?

Every time I go and eat upstairs, the more convincing I need to return again to the upstairs. Each…read moretime I go, something is off. Once again went with friends who are visiting, I live close by. The service was worse than before, had to flag the host down after 20mins of not being acknowledged by any server. The manager has been an issue in the past 2 previous visits. I'll continue to frequent the lounge. The servers are great and I can order the whole menu.

Stopped in for dinner after a round of golf. They did not mind my golf attire. I was seated outside…read moreunder the covered patio. My server was Toni and she was very attentive. I started with the pain pill cocktail - their version of a pain killer. It was really tasty. It came in a very tall glass with some cinnamon sprinkle. The pineapple was fresh. While I looked over the menu, she brought out some warm crusty rolls with salted butter. Yummmmm. I was famished so I dug in. They had so many things on the menu I was a bit in information overload. I started with the coconut shrimp, which they say is a house specialty. The dipping sauce was interesting - like a cold coconut milk? The shrimp were butterflied and lightly fried. There is four on the plate. Pretty good. For dinner, I had the fresh catch with mashed potatoes and the zucchini medley. The medley had zucchini. squash, onions and red bell pepper in it. They have other sides like sweet potato as well. You get your choice of two. The entree came with a side salad. It was a small portion. It had some sweet candied nuts on it, with some shredded mixed cheese and a side of their house French dressing. Some of the pieces of lettuce were really long so it was kinda messy to eat. The red snapper was my choice of fresh catch. I asked for it grilled but the other option is blackened. The fish was a good portion. About 6 to 8 ounces. The mashed potatoes were delicious. I enjoyed my meal and I was too stuffed for dessert. But I saw the bread pudding with ice cream at another table. Wow! The scoop of ice cream on that dish was huge! The key lime ice cream pie sounded interesting and I imagine they have a good tiramisu. Next time I'll get dessert. Service was stellar. I was not bothered but I was checked on often for another drink and water etc. plates were cleared often but did not distract me. I really enjoyed being outside because they had a one man band playing guitar and singing so wonderfully. It's a gorgeous setting outside. A bit warm, but I was gross from golf anyways. They do have quite a few fans but I'm glad I was away from them. I hate when I'm trying to eat and it's all I can do to keep my hair from blowing in my face and mouth from overzealous ceiling fans. Bathrooms are clean and well stocked. Parking is a private lot out front and I easily found a space. This place was recommended by a coworker. I am so glad I took her recommendation!
