Great little local diner serving up brunch and breakfast. The inside is decorated with fun mermaid touches, a nice nod to Norfolk. The value is very fair and the food was top notch. I ordered a corned beef breakfast sandwich on rye bread which came with one side. I got the breakfast potatoes which were nice and crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. This place is really no frills but it's absolutely delicious and felt very homey. The servers were really kind and made sure that our glasses were always full. I could instantly tell why the place was packed, you can truly feel the sense of community in this place. food- food was fresh and delicious. i had the philly cheese steak and it was a good meat to cheese ratio. the house salad was okay but the blue cheese was kind of yucky. the half pound burger was a delicious burger however kind of messy but thats what to expect! service- out waitress was a very nice younger lady who was attentive at first but then that started to get prolonged. but other than that she attended to what we needed. ambiance- the ambiance kind of reminded me of a old school or house.. i liked the beachy decor but it does look like it could use a few upgrades. overall- overall i will be back to try more food and hopefully find something i love! read more

I would highly recommend this place for anyone to try. I've been there about twice now and the service is always great. I've had the meatball sub and the pizza. That meatball is settle my craving for a meatball sub. The pizza was definitely decent and worth the price. We really liked it the first few times we went-not so much the last time. The service is always good. The food is good, but very greasy. Fries were so soggy from grease the last time we went, I couldn't eat them. Prices are a little high on some things, but reasonable for others. There is a great variety of items to choose from. Pizza, pasta, seafood, burgers, etc. Something for everyone. Cheesy bread is great. Hamburgers are really good and my favorite there. It's diner food for sure. Go before 5:30 on the weekends...it gets really crowded some nights. Small parking lot with tons of potholes that need to be fixed. For me, it's hit or miss. I haven't been to the Poquoson Diner for awhile but I recall I always enjoyed my food previously so we stopped for lunch. There was a bustling business but immediate seating. What I had definitely forgotten is how long it takes for the food to come out from the kitchen. At 40 minutes I inquired about our order since we had a hangry toddler screaming for fries. Poquoson Diner is a long standing business bought a few years ago by a popular local Hampton server and she has kept things going as a popular eatery. The menu is extensive with lots of my favorite yellow food, I got fried clams and onion rings. They also have a standard fare breakfast menu, as well as subs, pizza, home cooked style entrees like meatloaf, and Greek fare. I always have trouble deciding as so many things look good. I have heard the She Crab Soup is definitely worth a try. Everything is prepared as ordered so it arrives hot and greasy as applicable. Toddler immediately launched into her fries - thin cut shoe string style and fairly limp but tasty. The portions are large so as hungry as I was I got most of it to go. Now it serves me right for eavesdropping, but I distinctly heard a waitress tell a nearby customer that they had butterscotch pie. So I knew I had to get that to go, but when I asked my waitress she told me they not only don't have butterscotch pie, they have no pies at all. They had 3 desserts, none of which substituted for the illusive butterscotch pie. Serves me right for wandering ears. So if you are in the mood for diner food, and have time to wait for the in my opinion, overly long prep time, you could definitely enjoy a good variety of standard fare in a nautically themed simple and clean eatery right in the center of Poquoson. read more

Covid Review: 4/5 - As you walk up to the door, the made it known they are following rules set. Masks were required and if you did not have one call the number and they will bring one to you. That gave me the sense they cared not only for their patrons but their staff as well. VA is cracking down and asking the health department to do surprise inspections. We prefer business who follow rules. We feel if they can not follow simple rules set by the state, what else are they not following? They had hand sanitizer when you walk inside the doors as well. The condiments were not in the table, you had to ask for them. Customers were spaced very well apart and tables and chairs were wiped down after a customer left. We felt safe. Yelp Review: 5/5 - We were looking for a place open in Poquoson on a Monday, to eat dinner that was not fast food. My husband suggested the diner since we had not been to it yet. Of course we checked yelp and we liked what we saw. Do not judge a book by its cover. The moment you walk in, it was nice. It was bright and very well lit. Chairs are comfortable as well. We were seated right away. The menu looked great. Breakfast is served all day. They were out of a few things, but we still had options. The food came out piping hot. The food was fantastic. We have been missing diner food so much! The deserts are homemade and were so good!!! They were decent sizes too! All in all this is a great place to eat in or get delivery. I live right down the street from poquoson diner..just moved here a couple months ago...and it's where I head to when I don't feel like cooking or driving far. Poquoson Diner isn't a fancy place, but what I like about it is that it's very welcoming. "Homey"...it has a very chill setting. The food is homestyle cooking and it isn't meant to look pretty...but to me it tastes good. That's the best way to have food served even though I do enjoy fine dining as well. It's hot and fresh. I have tried their meatloaf and mash and it was decent with the brown gravy...my son has had their corn dogs and fries...and tore it up. We get their breakfast sometimes...and you get a lot for what you pay for. The pancakes are pretty good! I will say their coffee isn't that great. Very mild. I think this place is a good go to for a nice chill night ..no dressing up or doing your hair to look cute...they are serving the people who have had a long day or week working...and just need that home cooked meal. read more

The garlic knots, the Greek food, and the steak sub were to die for. The fries, however, were overcooked and dry. The service was fantastic. Really enjoyed speaking with our waitress, and enjoyed the clean environment. Everything was going good until I tried the Keylime pie, which was good, but they charged me $14.99 for one piece of pie. So, although overall, I found it to be an enjoyable experience, and had planned to come back, with pricing that unreasonable it is enough to deter me from trying the restaurant out again. read more

I found this diner to be average tipping into below average. It was pretty crowded, so maybe I didn't see something others were (unless it's just due to a lack of breakfast eateries around). The tables had a bunch of scratches/worn corners, but decor isn't that important. It was just not very welcoming. Also unfortunately due to business, it was really difficult to ever see the waitress. Didn't have coffee for almost the entire meal. My omelet was fine, but the English muffin was pretty burnt, and so was my boyfriend's toast and his bacon was super over the top crispy. It was like everything was overdone. I could probably do about as well and I'm no cook. Unless you just wanted to leave your house, there wasn't anything that was elevated to where it would be worth laying more than the cost of the ingredients and throwing something together at home. I had lunch at the diner several times this year and it's been consistently enjoyable. The staff are very friendly and work together as a team to make sure your taken care of. I highly reccomend the blackened shrimp. It is SO good, and the perfect amount of food for one person. I actually really like their salads as well. Naturally a yelp tip showing breakfast all day had us hooked and we had to make the trek out to Poquoson. It was absolutely worth it. I can order breakfast AND She Crab soup? Yes. I normally like a more chowder-like she crab but the flavor was amazing, and there were so many full chunks of crab. Biscuits and gravy were fluffy and covered with probably one of the better gravy's on the Peninsula - not too peppery, full of meat and covering the plate. Husband ordered the meat lovers omelette and home fries - full of of perfectly bite size chunks of meat and crispy home fries on the side. Don't let the biased local reviews fool you. The town has an extremely loyal fan base of friends and family that rarely leave to get food outside of town. Way overpriced. Standard breakfast (French toast, eggs, bacon, potatoes, 1 pancake, 1 egg) $30+ for me and my 7 year old daughter. Potatoes burnt. Took over an hour to get our food. Go to 185 instead. Dang the service is slow. I am not sure if it's the back of the house or the front of the house that makes this place miserable. Seriously we sat i our seat for close to two hours. Went for breakfast yesterday with my husband. We were asked to seat ourselves, and someone (not our server) got our coffee & sweet tea. Took about ten minutes for our server, Peggy, to get to us. Maybe five or so tables with diners. Took our order, and at least 20 minutes for it to come out, but brought our toast that grew cold waiting for our food. Husband's home fries missing, my bacon missing, and I asked for one egg, got two (charged for one, as I mentioned to Peggy. Can't make a profit giving away eggs), not over medium. Grits came without butter/margarine. My half order pancake was raw inside so didn't eat it. Three cooks, but obviously not on the same wavelength to mess up orders. Didn't punish Peggy, tip-wise, as she is a very conscientious server. Got to do better! read more

Been there for breakfast many times but they had three large parties and yet the servers were just delightful. not once in the midst of the crowded restaurant was any of them complaining, always had smiles on their faces, and genuinely served everyone with a true sense of southern hospitality. We got a table right away, even with a full parking lot. We came on an early Sunday afternoon for a late brunch and boy were we thankful for the heads up about this jewel. We had pancakes and waffles with blueberry's and sides of sausage links and bacon with orange juice. Service was fast and friendly. There was a large party next to us with toddlers but that didn't cause a problem with the service. The menus for breakfast and evening meals are very fair priced. The bathroom was spotless. Yesterday was my birthday. I'll admit my go to is Anna's, but they are closed on Mondays. We decided to get pizza from Poquoson diner for the family last night. Sadly the pizza was overdone. The underside was black. If you zoom in you can see charred spots. I'm kind of surprised they let this pizza go. My kids refused to eat the hard crust so we tossed it to the dogs. It had been a while since I ordered pizza here, but in the past it was much better. It's too bad it was such a miss tonight since it was a birthday dinner. I don't know if I'll take a chance on the pizza again. I've read reviews that make breakfast sound like a better bet. read more
