LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. When we showed up at the only place we saw open with coffee there was a line out the door, and now we know why. The coffee is so good and the prices are resonable. I tried the Almod Joy and my boyfriend got the Milky Way. We both couold easily have had another right after finishing. My son ordered a flavored coffee with blueberry...who knew such a tasty thing existed? We didn't order any of the baked goods but the size alone was impressive. I'm hoping to make it back to Southport and I will definitely be stopping here. read more

A independent coffee shop not to be missed. Our drinks were top notch. Always a pleasant surprise when I can get a latte and not have to add sugar to make it drinkable. We got a couple pastries, and they were super delicious too. Staff was friendly and cheerful, even answered our silly tourist questions with honesty and a smile. Port City Java is very convenient if you find yourself in Southport! It is really nice to grab some coffee and a muffin and go down to the waterfront park to drink it! I had a vanilla latte and a blueberry muffin and my hubby had a mocha and a chocolate chip muffin, both were great! We usually visit at least once a month. The last few months the customer service is lacking. Training of employees needs to improve, as well. All employees should know how to make all drinks, so that they taste the same each time. We have ordered the Black & Tan Shake and other drinks and have been disappointed on most of them. I even list in detail the ingredients for the shake and they can't seem to make it correctly, when they use to. Then if I ask for them to replace it, they respond rudely and it isn't even correct the second time. After reading the reviews, I see that I am not the only one and there is a major problem that needs to be corrected. read more

Great selection of coffee and teas for consumption and don't forget to try the baked goodies, I love the cranberry/orange scones, muffins and cookies. So rude! I don't know what's happened here in the past couple of months, not sure if it's all the tourists coming to town or if they can't handle the customer load . There's a young woman that has worked there forever and she was so snippy when I asked if they could just put the cream and sugar in the coffee. I didn't feel it would be necessary to explain to her I had a bandage on my hand and I wouldn't be able to do it. She said all the stuff was on the table and I was could do it myself. REALLY are you for real?! I'm a local resident and will no longer frequent this establishment. There are other places to get coffee in town. read more

I've loved PCJ since there was only one in Wilmington and I was in high school. The one in Southport I like too. They put an extra shot in their lattes, which I love. They do have a fairly limited food selection, but they make their own yummy ice-cream sandwiches. I have always found their staff to be very pleasant. Also, they have a window that you can order from if you have a dog (or in my case) sleeping babies in a stroller! So nice! read more

I love the atmosphere of this coffee shop. The baked goods are delectable. They have an extensive drink menu. I recommend the mocha freeze for anyone looking for a great coffee/dessert. They're coffee crumb cakes are also delicious. Highly recommend this place! read more

I have been a patron since they opened, before southport became a tourist destination and retirement lifestyle. PCJ suffers on occasion from interminably long lines, spotty wi-fi and slow service, esp on Sunday mornings. But for a coffee fix, it's a good choice in town. Like the food choices too. PCJ has a friendly and knowledgeable staff. However, I find it disappointing that this PCJ is regularly dirty. Early in the mornings, after they have just opened, the floors are still littered with crumbs, wrappers and dirt. The front door glass is constantly full of hand prints, smudges and gunk. The customer bar with creamer, straws, napkins and stir sticks is filthy and looks destroyed. This is one of 2 coffee shops in a town that loves to drink coffee, I wish they would show more customer appreciation by cleaning their shop! I go for the coffee, which is spot on and consistent, I leave because the atmosphere is dirty! read more

Tried this place on our way to the farmers market and not at all impressed. There were two staff at the time: a woman running the register, and a man making the beverages/food. We stood in line, which was fine, but the gentleman filling the orders stopped making our order THREE times in order to serve local, regular customers (i assume) as soon as they walked in the door (they did not wait in line). I'm all for great customer service, but this was very rude and off-putting to the regular "joe," paying customers like myself. We will not return. read more

Amazing coffee. We started going to PCJ when we vacationed in Carolina Beach, but switched to the Southport location when we started coming to Oak Island instead. This place beats Starbucks hands down and would give our other coffee chains a run for their money up north where we live. We have also sampled their muffins, scones, and breakfast sandwiches, and they're also delicious. We've never gone during peak times, so I can't comment on long lines or waits, but everything seems pretty efficient behind the counter when we are there. Give PCJ a try; you won't be disappointed. read more
