This port city location had very efficient service. It's small but has quite a lot of seating indoors, plus at least two outdoor tables for patrons with dogs or bikes (or those who just want to eat outdoors). They also have a drive through. We ordered two croissant breakfast sandwiches (one egg and cheddar, the other with sausage, egg, and cheddar). The croissants are flaky, buttery, and delicious. I had an oatmilk latte, and my husband had an iced caramel latte. Both were excellent! The oatmilk had a natural sweetness to it. We grabbed some pastries to go - a blueberry cream cheese Danish and an apple cinnamon scone. Both of those were delicious, too. I've only been to this PCJ once and they met my needs. I came in with a special request. I had won a raffle basket that included bags of whole PCJ coffee beans and I needed them ground. They were able to do this quickly and without issue. I got an iced coffee with vanilla syrup. They have added milk by default at other locations, so I didn't ask for it. When I discovered they didn't include it, the quickly corrected the issue. I also got an Americano. It ended up being watered down from all the crushed ice in the drink. When I forgot to scan my rewards card before paying, they didn't have any way to fix the issue. From their Mocha Shake, Black & Tan and now the Iced Chai & the BYO Breakfast Sandwiches. Stopped by for coffee and a sandwich after a bike ride. I was pleasantly surprised by the coffee which really hit the spot. This isn't fancy pour over coffee but a nice aromatic warm cup with good flavor. I'd pass on the food though. Ordered an egg and cheese on a bagel - after a third attempt at the correct order, I finally got an underwhelming sandwich that I couldn't finish. It's concerning when you let an establishment know that the Men's room is out of something so vital as toilet paper. And over half an hour later, nobody has gone in to replenish the toilet paper. Since it is an all female staff, I guess that might not matter to them. read more

We're new in town and were thrilled to find a coffee house that was so close by to where we live. We travel quite often and have visited many local and franchised coffee houses. Here is an "out-of-towner" point of view. First impression: Very cozy, comfortable, and friendly atmosphere. Wonderful aroma of coffee hits your senses as you enter the store. Lots of different selections of baked goods and drinks. Once the coffee and baked goods was tasted, we felt it was just okay. Nothing spectacular or different about the taste (we must admit, we've had better). My husband prefers bold coffee, and most of their coffee blends are not bold enough. When we tasted their muffins, although we appreciate the large size, it was on the dry side. To be fair, we tried their muffins (a different flavor) on another occasion, and found it to be just as dry (and this was early morning, so, we're assuming the muffins haven't been sitting there the whole day). What makes this place nice is not their coffee or food, but, more the atomosphere and the friendliness of the staff. read more

Drive through option here makes it easy, but there can be a line in the AM. The staff here is great. In the summer, I love the mango smoothie. I've been to this store before & the staff is friendly, the coffee is usually great. Normally I go through the drive thru but today I went in to work on some paperwork but I couldn't. Immediately I was hit with humidity when I walked inside & when I asked the baristas why it was so hot they told me that their air conditioner wasn't working. I was appalled. For a business to run with that level of heat was not only uncomfortable for me (it's already 90 outside) but I can't imagine working there. I apologized to the man working & left to go to Starbucks down the road. I only hope they do something to help those kids or else I won't be the only person making that choice. read more

I love Port City Java anyway but this location is my favorite! The staff here is super nice. The new renovavions that were done here are great! It makes the place feel super comfortable and welcoming. This place is a great place to have a quick lunch because all of their cafe food is great. It dosent stop at coffee and food either. My family and I were riding home from Wilmington back to the Carteret County Coast. My stepdaughter had nearly been "going in fits" to get a smoothie. According to the operating hours posted on here, they weren't supposed to close until 10pm. We rode up into the parking lot lot at 9:05 pm as another car was pulling through as well. The lights were out and they were obviously closed. They really need to update their hours of operation. read more

This place is awesome!!! I get the same thing every time and I have never been disappointed! The staff is fantastic and caring..and they always take their time making the presentation beautiful which I love! I came in one night when they were about to close and felt bad so I said I'd just drink it outside on the little front patio...oh they would not have that...they told me to sit and enjoy myself and I sat there until I was ready to leave..they have no idea how much that made my night..I had a horrible day and just wanted some peace and quiet..they were amazing and even asked me about my day and what was going on in my life. Does the board of health review this place? The cashier grabbed every cup she either marked for the barista or took to fill with coffee herself on the inside with her dirty hands. Cups are stacked open end up, they should be stacked bottom up and only handled on the outside. I can only imagine how many cold and flu germs get spread around Wilmington by this place! Coffee is ok but baristas never know which dark roast they serve. Almost every time I try to buy a bag of dark roast ground coffee, they get confused and never know if they can. This isn't a problem, necessarily (they've always found some dark roast to sell) but today the barista was so rude and incompetent. She was yelling at me through the drive through order window (I had to just roll up my window, she was freaking out). She then tried to say that they can't sell fair trade coffee (?), after her explanation that they can ould sell me a 12 oz bag. The she continued her incompetence and terrible attitude when I pulled up~ Rudely telling me my $2.50 wasn't enough for my cup of coffee (maybe you should've told me the price at order screen or pick up window, instead of yelling and focusing on being a bitch). It's a shame they can't hire employees who are kind and qualified. I'm schocked at how rudely I was just treat s for trying to get a bag of dark roast Coffee. The fact that a manager didn't overhear her or care to help is alarming too. read more

The staff is super friendly, the coffee, tea and baked goods are all amazing. Why wait in a drive thru line for 10 minutes at a busy Starbucks? I use the Porters Neck Port City Java drive thru probably 3 times a week and I'm usually driving off with my coffee in hand in less then a minute after ordering.
