Super cool spot with genuine pub vibes. Being underground was different and the story behind the money in the walls was hilarious. The service was astounding and were appalled to find out it was the owners mother who was nice being belief. The sandwich special was super affordable and the pizza was delicious and had a great tavern taste and feel to it. You can't go wrong going underground. read more

A neat restaurant that we used to frequent when we lived in town. Now that we were back visiting, we were excited to go again. It has neat ambiance and a nice location. Calzones, lasagna and spaghetti were good. One person had large chicken alfredo, which was flavorless and something was off with it. I mentioned to the waitress, and her comment was, "Sorry, I will let the kitchen know." She asked if we wanted a box for the barely touched meal and we said no, as it wasn't good, so would pass. Was very unsatisfied with my service at Port City Underground tonight. As one of the only places open during a snowstorm, not many people were there so I expected more detail to attention. The waitress was not welcoming, did not ask us if we needed appetizers or anything. My drink was made wrong, I let it slide all she forgot was the chocolate rim. I was further unimpressed when my order was put in wrong as well. Not to mention the salad was just lettuce, a pinch of cheese and ranch. My main concern with this place is they give you a check with just what you owe ( not itemized ) not to mention with an 18% gratuity attached , we usually start at 20% and adjust accordingly based on service , the food was so so , i had the reuben pizza , #1 sauce should be on the bottom like red sauce pizza and more of it , #2 reuben is with corned beef not canadian bacon of which i couldnt taste at all do to the fact there was hardly any meat and way to much sauerkraut, my wife had a salad that was $13 and basically had nothing on it other than a very small undercooked chicken breast and the ranch dressing made her queasy to the point she quit eating it , im a retired chef and worked in some very exclusive restaurants in the twin cities and i've never seen a restaurant that their only reason for existence is to take your money and give nothing in return , we wont be going back read more

Got to-go a while back. I've had garlic noodles at various restaurants in the past but this one was just spaghetti with butter on it. Maybe it was just a bad night or cause of COVID they've been busy. I love garlic so maybe they just got a complaint about it being too garlicky and overcorrected friendly staff and nice atmosphere though! I'd recommend the noodles for picky kids though. read more

Long story short? Save yourself the trouble, and go to Salvatores just up the street, or any other eating establishment for that matter. My wife's mini pizza was good, but instead of a mini pizza like the menu stated, it was four slivers of pizza that were about 2" wide at the widest part. It tasted like a precooked sausage pizza that they tossed toppings onto and set under a warmer to heat up. I had chicken Alfredo... It was literally a boiled chicken breast with absolutely no flavor, and the Alfredo sauce on the over-cooked, sticky noodles was of the canned variety. It took over an hour from the time we ordered our food until it arrived... And then it was the most disappointing meal I've eaten. Definitely not worth the money. Not at all. Oh and the garlic cheese bread was not worth the cost. read more

You haven't had cheesy bread until you've had Underground's cheesy bread. I could eat this stuff all day! The pizza is also amazing, thin crust only (which I usually hate, but they do really well here!) and comparable to Louisiana Pizza Kitchen, but better. The staff is hit or miss. I've been here with young kids in tow and I think it's only acceptable to have noisy kids here because there are so few restaurants in Muscatine. The restaurant has a more intimate feel in the evening so it's probably not a great idea to have young kids here then. They do fine with groups. I wish we had an Underground here in New Orleans, but that would be a joke because we call basements "pools," being that we are six feet below sea level. read more

Boyfriend & I came in on a Friday night after seeing the $20 for $10 on yelp. We live out of the area and decided to try. Kind of hard to find when driving by, but found it quickly on foot. It really is 'underground,' but cozy atmosphere. Ordered the Muskie sticks, trim portion spinach manicotti, and Boyfriend got the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Muskie sticks were great. Good dough, not overly heavy and served with warm marinara. My manicotti came with a Caesar salad which was great as there was ample dressing. My boyfriends meal came with soup - broccoli cheddar - which was also thick and flavorful. My manicotti. I burnt my mouth on the molten alfredo lava so I let it cool for about 5 minutes. Then, it was perfection. Delicious flavor, yum! I ate the whole thing. My boyfriends alfredo on the other hand was disappointing. It truly tasted like noodles had too much butter and the sauce too much cream. The chicken also lacked seasoning and was dry. Since he barely ate any of it, the wait staff and manager were very nice about not charging us and offering to make him something else. Overall, we will come back. A good place to eat, but will skip the fettuccine next time. read more

I wasn't sure I was going to like the chunky artichoke dip appetizer. I thought it needed to be blended up more, but I was wrong, it was really good. We love Port City! The pizza is perfect every time. There's no where else I can get sundried tomatoes on my pizza! The pasta entrees are great and the Caesar side salad is a perfect add on. We have lived in Muscatine for 5 years and have never been to Port City Underground until lastnight. The place is very interesting looking, rock walls, kind of narrow floor plan, funky looking bar area. It didn't take us very long to get a table, but we were told tables go very quickly! The staff was very personable and attentive. We ordered the Caprese for our appitizer (sliced tomatoes, basil, and fresh mozzarella in basalmic). It was very good! We ordered a philly cheese steak pizza (onions, green peppers, thinly sliced beef with a cream sauce) and upgraded it to "flood the basement" which means having them add a second crust underneath filled with cheese, green and black olives and hot peppers. It was the best pizza we have ever had....easily! We are not wine drinkers, but they have a rather large selection with a free tasting at the bar. We will definitely be going back frequently and bring friends and family. 5 stars from us.....all the way! read more

I have no idea how we had never stumbled across this place but it may become one of our new spots. We ordered the Meat Me with a filled basement and a Margherita with just olive oil. The Meat Me was a meat paradise. All the toppings were balanced and not awkwardly sized. The extra layer of cheesy amazing news filling the basement adds is so worth it. The Margherita pizza smelled great but we all agreed it had to be salted lightly to enhance the flavor of the tomatoes. The crust on both pizzas was a different type of crust, almost biscuit flavored but excellent. Our server was Mitch and he was very attentive and fun. We will definitely be returning since there is many more pizzas we want to try. read more

unfortunately we stopped in the port city a few weeks back. had a very unpleasant experience, for starters they ran out of lettuce for the salad (how would this happen??) next the booth we were in by the window (heading towards 2nd street) was falling apart. good points - the waiter was very fast and courteous. the lasagna was tasty and wife had the spaghetti and said it had a good flavor. In my opinion with all the new places starting up in muscatine, port city better step up or they will be next with a closed sign on the door. I love everything I have had here. The pizza, pasta (the spinach stuffed manicotti is to die for), soups, salads, etc... The Muskie sticks are a MUST appetizer for a large group. Lacey, Mitch & everyone has always been so wonderful. The atmosphere is very comfortable. The party room is good, but doesn't have great lighting however the food & service definitely make up for that. My son loves their options for kids, he is addicted to the pizza bites with broccoli as a side. Not many places offer healthy options for kids and Port City does! read more
