Our show band was contracted to provide live entertainment for an 800 person corporate event. Headlight Audio Visual was contracted to provide Front Of The House sound (FOH). Right before our sound check I noticed that their Main speakers and sub-woofers were unplugged. I informed their crew of that, and I was told that the " mains stopped working hours before and that we would have 2 small 12" speakers 100' apart for our sound system." Unbelievable! I guess they weren't going to let us know? Luckily, we had come from a large concert appearance the night before and had our own PA with us. Because we are professionals, we set our own system up and delivered the high quality show that we always do. We are professionals - I would have to say Headlight is not when it comes to delivering live sound. Perhaps they are just a VISUAL company and should remove AUDIO from their letterhead.

Even if it was extra, having a canopy or tent available would have avoided so much moving around of everything from start to finish. Felt bad for the couple an 90 people there. The space is incredible with the different areas as options for specific parts of the wedding or reception. Unfortunately, it also was dirty and greasy. Some examples: All the countertops were greasy and most of the available cookware and dishes were greasy, stained (that elbow grease removed) and/or had food remains on them. The vent in the room we had the rehearsal dinner in had thick black dust (maybe mold?) on it and the wall of windows were dirty inside and out. I had to ask an employee to pick food out of one of the trash cans, whose bottom was covered in black mold, before I could replace the trash bag. I emailed a more detailed list to Mr. Strunk and the venue and did get a response from Alexis that said "We will have a team meeting this week to discuss what we can do better with your review and revamp our in-house check list." I hope they do. Most of my concerns would not take a lot of time, money, or elbow grease to correct if they were completed on a regular basis. It seems as if there is no list of cleaning in preparation for an event. If there is, it isn't very comprehensive and/or the person responsible did not complete it. It wasn't until after the event that we saw the review of the venue that said a couple's meal was late because the caterers spent an hour cleaning the kitchen before beginning work. I want a venue with the same standards that that caterer had. This space is very cool, but the client should spend their time enjoying the event and not cleaning.

His suggestions are tasteful and non-intrusive, and respectful of the artist's original vision. Though I'm admittedly a fan of the convenience of digital recording via ProTools, Acadia also has the ability to record to analogue tape for that oldschool sound. The studio's selection of gear, amps, and mics is also second to none-- I always feel like a kid in a candy store. My hardest decision is usually, "would this song benefit more from some vintage tape delay, or that giant reverb tank?" I'm constantly looking for an excuse to get back here and do more work.

Talking with the owner we discovered they have been open for roughly three weeks at this point so very new. It's a great mix of a gift shop meets art store plus much more with more to come in the future. The owner also wants to focus on local artists and items which is a huge plus. Through conversation with the owner we found out he worked a corporate job in New York for many years until the start of the Ai craze. Where he was told he would be needing to fire many of his workers which him and a few others decided to say no to and due to that got let go, but it lead him to opening this store and finally being able to be creative once again. They had local art on walls, tea towels, ceramic art, Christmas tree with ornaments, and more. When we entered he was working on some art examples for a workshop he would be having later on for First Friday Art for kids. So plenty of art workshops in addition to the storefront. He also explained that upstairs was the space used for some of his other work with more planned in the future of graphic design, custom invitations, and more. Lastly he also mentioned he would be working on the basement space in hopes of making it into a studio for artists to use and more messy workshops. Truly a local business with lots of plans for growth/expansion. A great addition to Congress Street and I look forward to return in the future. A spot worth checking out!
