By the time I got in the car and noticed it but by then there were at least 12 customers in line. I had already stood in line for at least 15 minutes with only 3 customers ahead of me. Ok not a big deal but still, I am there at least once a week. I emailed them and explained the situation and gave them my information. A couple days later I received a response and they credited my card with $3.38 along with an apology! Talk about EXCELLENT customer service. By the way, their asparagus and strawberries are incredible! Going back again tomorrow for more stuff including berries. Keep up this great work.

Honestly I don't know any other place locally that offers u pick tomatoes in Monroe county. It was an easy walk to the plants and the tomatoes were really big. I can't wait to use them. Peacework Farm is located in Newark, that is where the crops are grown. I was only involved in this CSA for one year, but it was a great experience and would recommend it to anyone who loves their organic veggies, is interested in knowing where their food comes from, or is interested in investing in a local farm. (There are only two reasons why I did not participate again after the first year and those are the same reasons why I haven't participated in any other local CSA-- first of all you get a lot of veggies, even if you get a half share-- normally this would be awesome but I have a small sized fridge and each week the haul would over flow it. The other reason is that I am not around as much in the summer to pick up my share. Neither reason reflects poorly on GVOCSA... in fact that is a testament to how large your pick up will be.) GVOCSA requires members to participate in a few farm-work and distribution shifts during the season. This might not be for everyone, but I thought it was cool to help harvest the vegetables and to get a closer look at the farm operation. The type of work you will do varies depending when you go during the season. The distribution shifts are pretty simple-- you go to Abundance and help prepare the vegetables to be picked up. That part is pretty easy, just some weighing and bagging. The spread of vegetables you get is great. I learned to love some new greens through this CSA. The season is 26 weeks. The price looks steep initially, but if you break it out by week it is not too bad, especially when you consider what the same volume of organic veggies would cost you at Wegmans. The quality of the produce you will get from here is really great, if you work a sorting shift at the farm you will see what I mean. A lot of care is put into getting the vegetables from the farm to the members in great condition. I think the main difference for GVOCSA versus other local CSAs is that they have the member participation. Also, everyone I came in contact with through the CSA was really nice, so you can count on working your few shifts with some great people. You can often find them at various farmer's markets. During the wintertime, you can find them at Horsefeathers Winter Market, North Tonawanda and a few other locations (listed on their web site). They also offer a variety of CSA's and if you're looking to buy 200lb worth of cow to last you the whole winter, summer, year or whatever; they would be some of the best local purveyors to get it from. Prices are higher than your typical supermarket ground beef, but you get what you pay for with very succulent ground beef. I find grassfed beef has a bit of a different taste and prefer it, so whenever convenient I buy my burgers from these guys. The farm also supplies a good amount of beef for Lloyd Taco Trucks as well as tomatillos, cilantro and other veggies. The people who run the farm and their staff are superbly friendly. Next time you see these guys at a farmers market, I highly recommend trying some of their products! I'd love to read some more reviews from people who have tried their CSAs as well.

Kent and the gang, aka Plato Dale and the Sunshine Kids, can be seen regularly at Horsefeathers and Farmers and Artisans in the winter, and all over town during the growing season. The farm offers shares of vegetables and meat (including grass fed jersey cows and other breeds on occasion) and pick up points from North Tonawanda to West Seneca and downtown Buffalo to Arcade. We've purchased a half cow from the farm, as well as loads of produce. They even have farm friends in Florida and supply organic citrus around the holidays (Hint: your oranges should not be perfectly orange and round. They should be a little uglier.) If you aren't convinced by my own enthusiasm, you might be convinced by the fact that several great Buffalo restaurateurs including Peter & Chris of Lloyd's and Steve Gedra of Black Sheep (and formerly of Bistro Europa) regularly supply from Plato Dale. These are heavy hitters and a great testament to the quality and deliciousness of Kent's food. My one complaint, to be fair and unbiased in my review, is the pricey eggs the farm produces. But they're offset by the price-to-quality ratio of everything else they grow and sell, so, water under the bridge!! If you're looking for a local supplier of farm fresh food, Plato Dale should be your first stop.
