They are just that incredible at what they do. I made my way to them when I was deep in a trauma response and, without them, I'm not sure I would have made my way to healing. I was passing through Portland and was in need of corrective care from my chronic symptoms due to my bicycle dooring accident last fall. It's not everyday one crosses paths with a practitioner that possesses deep and profound cross-seasoning sage in Eastern and Western medical practices like Kathleen King. This woman is RARE and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Since the fall of last year, I have been suffering and coping with chronic pain that has SEVERELY compromised my basic day-to-day activities and intellectual faculties. Injuries I sustained consisted of a SEVERELY dislocated (most involved joint in the human body) shoulder and broken wrist. After only TWO focused visits, the über-pleasant Kathleen was able to liberate my chi (vital energy) and renew my life force, such that the heightened focus I require to perform cerebral work is AT LAST renewed. To say that this is a "healing space" is an understatement. This place is by far the best holistic care I've ever received and the care goes well beyond physical healing. I originally called to see a chiropractor, but ended up seeing Daniel for acupuncture instead. After one visit I was hooked and ended up coming for continued care and maintenance for several months. She is professional, kind, intuitive, gentle, comforting, and so, so easy to talk to. She took the time to get to know me on a deeper level every visit and even though I came in at first for chronic neck and back pain I ended up seeing her for so much more: jaw/dental pain, anxiety, stress, balance, PMS symptoms, digestive issues, etc. Each visit I am left feeling taken care of on a mental and spiritual level, as well as my body feeling relaxed as if I've been to a spa. I eventually also saw Liz Giles for chiropractic care and she couldn't have been more knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. She has a gentle way of adjusting and is not only patient with all of my many questions, but she taught me exercises and tips for making postural changes in my daily life. I have been going to Danielle for acupuncture for about 3 years for a variety of treatments. She is the most effective acupuncturist I have ever been to. She has treated me for digestive issues, muscular issues, physical trauma, emotional unrest, and everything else that has come up! Portland Healing Space is the combination of two wonderful health care practitioners. Liz is a chiropractor and Danielle is the accupunturist. Both really take time with you to try and determine the nature of the problem. The thing I appreciate most Portland Healing Space is how well Danielle and Liz work so well together to integrate a treatment plan. I have recently been battling a lower back strain and they have really spent the time to determine the best course of action in their respective modalities to treat the issue. Portland Healing Space is a sanctuary of healing and love. Being in two auto accidents in nine months is traumatic to say the least. I walked by PHS before the first accident and made a point to mark it on my map because it had a great vibe even from the sidewalk. Everyone here has found their calling as I see it. I would NOT recommend Portland Healing Space if you are seeking treatment from a motor vehicle accident. They are inexperienced in the injury assessment coding and billing that is required when dealing with auto insurance companies. I'm not convinced they even had a billing department until a few months ago (they do have a billing person now but she is unresponsive and difficult to get ahold of). They caused me a lot of extra stress during an already difficult time because of their incompetence in this area. The massage and chiropractic treatments I received from Portland Healing Space were mediocre and certainly not with the billing errors and administrative hassle. read more

In the midst of a series of big midlife transitions, I decided to seek acupuncture based on the unanimous praise I heard from friends. I found Danielle through my insurer's provider lookup, made an appointment, and after the first one, made 5 more in the 3 weeks before I moved abroad for a few months. What luck to have found her! I can't compare to other acupuncturists, but I can say without question that I've never had any health practitioner of any kind with her ability to truly work with a patient to heal. Danielle listened carefully to my concerns, asked insightful questions to understand further, explained acupuncture/Chinese medicine concepts to me so I'd understand the treatment and why she was choosing the points she was in each appointment, and would answer my questions with patience and clarity and never an eye on the clock. I experienced Katie Bowens's massage technique (during an open house last week) and she does not play around. I can see Katie being a revelation especially for people who get bummed out with other massage therapists who stay too light or too on the surface, and wish someone would just really get in there. Katie's pressure point elements of the massage where deep and firm and I'm pretty sure I actually felt my individual muscle fibers unknitting, smoothing out. Also, when Katie tells you to drink a lot of water after, dude... listen and comply. A bonus because of the open house is that Max Voltage was playing violin and loop-pedal composing in the same room I received my chair massage and the combination was transcendent. In that one evening, I experienced so much of what makes Portland Healing Space a haven for care. Every detail was thoughtfully aligned for an experience of ease and opening, healing and renewal. It's real obvious that each practitioner, and the support people on the business/office side of things, have a mindset where a rising tide raises all boats. So extraordinarily cooperative, in all its senses. I only knew the person I went to the open house with, yet I feel if I walked back into Portland Healing Space today, I'd be greeted like a friend by anyone in the house. A review of Portland Healing Space would be incomplete without mentioning how consistent the brand experience is, thoughtful, empathetic, beautiful, soothing throughout. Their retail area has a small yet mighty selection of great products. My favorite deodorant (Schmidt's), masterfully created flower essences by Shayne Case. I could go on and on. PHS's thoughtfulness expands to individuals who would not normally have or exercise the privilege of access to their level of self-care and healing, because of financial hardship or general underearning... they have a fund built by donations from patients and friends to supplement the cost of care for individuals who would not afford them elsewise. As a new patient, I made an error when I went to see the doctor about a cut wound I need treated. There was some misunderstanding when when I called for an appointment. I was referred to another organization for that health problem. However, I will be using Portland Healing Space in the future for nutritional physical and psychological wellness advice in the future. Portland Healing Space is a positive experience that demonstrates concern for its patients at a much higher level than the traditional health care organization.
