This new company in the portrait game is the closest your going to get to private photographer quality at wal-mart or target prices. Don't let their $9.95 special fool you. This is not cheap studio. They are at the top of their market quality wise higher than Studio-one-to-one/glamour shots, but priced to compete with wal-mart. There are not fitting fees or minimum purchase either. You get the pictures same day, 15 minutes to about an hour depending on how busy it is. Would you rather have your kids picture taken on a table or in a studio room the size of a bedroom? Don't take your past experiences from other studios and expect the same run around here. When your photographer says to buy in the collections (3 sheets of a pose), do it. They are trying to get you a better deal, like they say. Not trying get the most of your money like you have come to expect. They don't work on commission, so you should not feel pressured. If you do it is because you are too consumed by your misconceptions of value. If you spend more on your child's outfit and on the pictures it is for, your priorities are in the wrong place. The company is the same in every location, so you should have the same experience where ever you go. There are lots of props for the pictures and you are allowed to have a change of clothes. This does not mean to bring your closet with you. They do invite you to bring your own props. It definitely brings out the creativity in the photographer when they get to use something new and it makes the pictures even better when they are personalized to your child. If its for a special events don't forget what is important, if its their birthday talk to the studio about you bringing a cake, if its first communion for God sakes remember your Bible and rosary, if its graduation seriously bring the cap and gown. You can't see the event in your pictures if you don't bring your props! They expand their hours for the Christmas and Easter holidays. Which means they open on Mondays and expand their hours to about 7 am to 7 pm depending on demand. Do make appointments, they accept walk-ins but as appointment times are available. They are not going to take a walk-in ahead of an appointment, that is just rude and inconsiderate of the person who took the time to make an appointment. The best tip I can give you is if you go the last week of October they have their Christmas set already up and you can get fun pictures in halloween costumes at the same sitting and save you a lot of time, money and unneeded frustration during the holidays. read more

DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!! Made an appointment for a 10:00AM business sitting session. Presented myself on time at 10:00AM, the place was totally disorganized, they had 3 large groups in front of me. When I asked them how long it would be, the photographer didn't want to answer my question. All I got out of her was, there are 3 other families ahead of you. Well, what's the point of making an appointment if you start to take walk-ins and to add insult to injury you can't run on time. It's now 10:33, and it's still super chaotic. As a long time customer at THIS location who comes consistently at least 6 times a year for pictures, I WILL NEVER COME BACK! I have never in my life been so blatantly ignored, skipped over, and treated like I had no clue. If this is what portrait innovations has become, it is sad. The clientele that was receiving preferential treatment must be what they have set their sites after. Arrived early for an appointment, one family looking at photos and not another soul in the studio. After they finished, still no one else there, I was told I had to wait until my appointment time. Staff then went to the back. additional staff arrived and the conversation between the two was littered with profanity and loudly expressed to the point my 6 year was commenting on it! Had my 10 year not had her heart set on pictures today, I would have walked out! so we waited. BUT, when a late arrival came in, they were ushered right ahead of us, allowed to get ready etc. My daughter was then taken for her pictures. Interrupted 3 different times to see if her room was done for the other family. The only question asked of her was how old she was. No conversation, no direction, nothing. The staff then attempted to be finished without using any other background. When it was time to load pictures, I questioned the amount of glare on my daughters glasses. Was told " I told her to take them off." I was told it couldn't be fixed. She has been taking pictures in the SAME glasses for 6 years!!! Without glare issues. OF the 67 pictures taken. That's right, 67, maybe 10 were able to be used without glare. On top of that, the place was filthy for 10:30 am on a Friday morning. The toilets in the bathroom had not been cleaned. Cups were left in lobby. Dirty floors. When I picked up my pictures, I watched the staff again, use preferential treatment to another family that came in and left one sitting who had been waiting 45 minutes with an appointment. I used to extole the greatness of this location. We even toted are at risk child here because it was clean and they took great care with his pictures. I will not be returning unless things DRASTICALLY changed. The good dedicated employees are gone. read more

I am writing this as a longtime customer of Portrait Innovations. I've been a customer since they opened their studio in Cary, NC, in 2005 (?). Each year, I have been in with my children each Fall and Spring like clockwork. Last year, we relocated to the Houston area. I was delighted to see a studio in Sugar Land, even though it's a bit of a drive from our new neighborhood in Katy. This studio does not compare to the service I experienced in NC. The staff is not nearly as polite. They are not flexible when you want to deviate from their standard script. (After all these years, really, I know what I want and how to streamline the process! We're working with children here, folks!) When you come here for portraits, expect to wait. And wait. And wait. After your portrait sessions, an adult has to be ready to go through all the photos to select the final poses. This takes time and attention, something the kids have long since run out of at this point. You'd be wise to have another adult handy to watch the kids after the session. But, why the low star rating, why today after years of being a customer? I had such a bad experience this morning that I actually left before our session. The appointment was scheduled for 9. We arrived at 8:45. Granted, this is a busy time of year, but intelligent scheduling should help manage this, yes? After waiting for over 45 minute with 2 families ahead of me, I bailed. Given limited time during the holidays, the hope of getting good pictures didn't seem like a good trade for our hours. The front desk just asked my last name and literally shrugged shoulders at me. No apology. That really gets me. There are many things that the manager could have done to improve the situation. For starters, someone could have been circulating from time to time to set expectations for those of us waiting. They could manage their scheduling better. Instead of seeing visions of $$$ dancing through their eyes today, they could think about building strong customer relationships for tomorrow. Finally, if I decide that it's time for me to leave, APOLOGIZE. Just say sorry. Show some emotion. Communicate with me human to human. I only come back because usually I can get a good deal. But it doesn't matter if you have an appointment, you will wait. You will wait minimum of 20 minutes after your scheduled appointment time. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. It's hit or miss if the staff is courteous. After your session you will wait a minimum of another 20 minutes to load the pictures. Then you will sit with a sales person determined to sell you the highest package. It doesn't matter if you don't want it, you have to start at like a $600 package and let them continuously down sell you. So minimum time there- 2 hours I suffer through the misery because I get a good amount of pictures for the cost. That's the only Reason it gets 2 stars. I'm not sure if I recommend it or not. This is the second time that I have taken pics and the pricing for items have increased mugs, canvas, etc. Also I have not received an email with my photos taken, the app does not allow me to insert my email address and view past photos or to even purchase additional photos of that session my daughter's photo was horrible the back ground had a stain on it they still charged regular price no compensation, my last couple of appointments have not been the best and I have been taking photos with PI for at least 6 years, I think this was the last session for me and my family. Manager Shalisa is rude as hell. I scheduled an appointment online for 9:40am and I was running behind. I called the store to let them know I would be a few minutes behind. The lady informs me that she doesn't see any appointment for me. I informed her I had an email confirmation showing my appt and I would let them see it when I arrived. As soon as I hang up I received a call back from Shalisa telling me I had called to cancel the appt because my son had a knot on his head. I told her that was not correct. I never called them. My son also doesn't have a knot in his head. I suggested that maybe they canceled the wrong appt in error. Shalisa then responded well when you get here you will be treated as a walk in. Fast forward we allowed at the studio. I go in wanted to speak with her but she was initially not available so I was helped by another two ladies who scheduled me at 10:10 since that was the next appt available. After a few mins Shalisa called me to the desk to inform me she will move me back to my appt time at 9:40 and just mark me 10 mins late. She also reiterated that "one of the other ladies" can't remember the name told her she spoke with me and I did indeed canceled since my son had a knot. At this point I was already over her and this place to be completely honest. I have been here sooooo many times before and never had any issues. I work as a manager and customer service always comes first but not at this place. I have already informed her I didn't call and cancel nor does my son have a knot on his head. At that point she should of apologized for the error from one of HER employees and tried to fix the situation. She was rude and not helpful at all. Whomever the regional manager is they need to come in and do some retraining or possible make some changes in management since customer service is so basic. If you don't have that you don't have nothing. Fast forward I go to pick up my pictures and leave and realize they never gave me my cd with the pictures so I really hope they are there when I go back to pick up my remaining items. read more

I've been coming here since my son was born he is 6years old now. I've watched the level of CV customer service go from excellent to poor. The pictures themselves always come out and great and the photographers are usually super friendly and knowledgeable. However the wait time is ridiculous. The past 3 times I've had an appointment and still had to wait 1-1 1/2 hrs for service. When I visited last week the photographer was all alone and the place was packed. She had to balance taking pictures, answering the phone, and checking out customers we spent 2 1/2hrs here. Today she is here all alone once again and we have to wait for pictures that weren't printed properly. Visiting from out of town and since the whole family was together we decided we should do family pictures. Made our reservation online for an early morning spot because we had a toddler and didn't want to have cranky baby on our hands. A couple days after making the reservation we were called to push it back an hour. No biggie, they were very polite. Got there and our photographer Shalisa was wonderful. While we did end up with a super cranky toddler, she was patient and in the end we got a few good shots of him. When the shoot was over is where stars get lost. Being a large group we fully expected to pay around $200 We figured we wouldn't all want the same poses so we knew going in the one pose coupons advertised wouldn't work for us. What we didn't realize was that in order to get the CD free and clear, we'd have to buy 30 prints. At a cost of $399.00! That's insane. And saying you're "throwing in" 3 portrait books when each book must be identical doesn't make it any better. The pictures are nice. I'm hoping it's a freaking spectacular portrait book. Though I'm disappointed that we could get them shipped to us and instead my brother has to pick them up and then ship them to us. That made no sense. My husband and I are planning to do family photos with his family in a couple of months. We will NOT be using the local portrait innovations. My advice- the pictures are good but to avoid sticker shock go before your shoot and get the package prices. Make sure you tell them multiple poses so you don't end up stuck paying way too much for your photos. read more

Came in at 12: 55 for a 1 PM, photoshoot. They were not ready until 1: 40 PM. They double-booked us. Also, they only had one bathroom functional which had the only mirror all customers could use. A photo studio without a full length wall mounted mirror located in the common area? They could have done better. Maybe if your appointment is during the week Monday thru Wednesday instead of primetime, the chances of being double-booked will be less and you may have a better experience. read more

Came here with a group of 20 for pictures during a family reunion. We had an appointment and they were very timely. Chelisa (? Spelling) was our photographer and she was excellent! She was so good with the young kids and was able to get everyone to smile, all at the same time :) everything was very smooth and we were able to take multiple shots in a very short period of time. I think we got a great deal and it was great having the photographer sit with us going through all the pictures and putting a package together for us! Very happy we came here! read more

I have used Portrait Innovations several times for my young grandson. They have never disappointed me. They do an outstanding job.

The worst portrait session I've ever had. Session didn't start until 2 hours after appointment time. Photography acted like he hated his job, he was surly, rude and uninspired. He wanted to use the same poses for all backgrounds. He took pictures before we were in position (even some shots of my 2 year old granddaughter struggling). When we went to view the photos he informed us that they were expensive. While some of the final photos were quite good, others had faces partially obscured my heads and in one instance he cut the top of my son-in-law's head off. We all agreed that this was not fun unlike photo sessions at other places where we had a good time. read more

I did an Easter photoshoot for my 18 months old. The photographer did an amazing job getting my son to smile in every picture! I normally take my son to JC Penney photos and getting him to smile is normally a hard task. The only thing I did not like was the restriction on how many poses I could chose with the special. I'm use to getting all of the poses with JC Penney so it was hard trying to narrow the selection down. read more

I've been taking all my family photos here because they have really good specials in addition to getting your pictures printed right then and there. The associates will always try to upsell you into getting this extravagant package that costs a lot of money. I personally only am there for their featured coupon and if I see another pose that I want, then I'll just buy that sheet at an additional cost. Don't be pressured into spending tons of money unless that's not a problem for you. Depending on who you get, if they see that you're being "cheap", they're attitude will be less friendly. The waits can also take a very long time even if you have an appointment which isn't good for young children. The photos do come out great though. read more

Have been going here for many years and while the service was on the decline they still offered the best deal in town. This is no longer the case and will be the last visit to this or any other Portrait Innovation studio. New management is very rude to customers and their own employee. As others have said getting an appointment time and having them honor do not happen. Studio is to small and they book you like it is a doctors office. Be sure to read the "fine" print on their advertising as when you try and make a purchase they clearly are in the business of upselling. Even when offering multiple choices for 5x7 cards or "free" extras which are not free they limit the choices you can make unless you want to pay extra. As for the "free" items, they are no longer free as you have to pay handling fees which are new. Total and complete garbage customer service and selling practices. Corporate offices were of no help and wanted to send me a gift card for a future purchase. This company and location need no more of my $$$. read more

It was my first time going and most likely my last. I scheduled an appointment for 4:40pm a week in advance. On the day of as I'm parking, I notice there's people waiting outside and see a crowd in the inside. I arrive to check-in and informed there would be an hour delay! Not very happy and asked how many people are ahead of me...I'm given the response of 8 to 9 families. Again not very happy. I decide to wait and time passes...well over an hour. I come again to the front desk and ask what is the wait time and how people ahead. I'm informed 8 families...no change on that and still a wait time of now over an hour. As I'm speaking to other customers I come to find out they also scheduling online almost 2 weeks out for the same time!!! How is that possible?? I ask one of the photographers what is the protocol and she explains a lot is dependent upon various factors such as change of outfits, child behaviors, etc. I said that all understandable...and if that is the case then why allow an entire handful of people to schedule for the same time frame. That makes no sense?? Long story short...being a new parent, yes I'm really excited for experiencing the 1st of many holidays above all Christmas. We eventually got brought back after 2 HOURS of waiting. Didn't get much of a compensation - only addt'l greeting cards! For the amount paid, I'd rather pay a personal photographer for a session. read more

We just came back from Portrait Innovations at Sugar Land, TX. We are very disappointed. We had been with Portrait Innovations Studio for three years, both in Tulsa, OK, and College Station, TX. The experience were nice and warm. We had a lot of sweet memories with photo taking in the studio. But this time, it is totally different and upsetting. We had 10:20am appointment, and we arrived slightly earlier than 10am. We picked this time because my one-year old son usually needs his nap around 11am. But we waited, waited, and waited. At 10:43am, we were called to one of the studio, took several pictures under Christmas tree, and went back to wait again, because pictures for Christmas and pictures for Birthday need to be taken in two different room! How ridiculous! The waiting area are full of people and kids, dressed, prepared, but sadly waiting. In the following 30 minutes, my son became fuzzier and fuzzier, since it was getting close to his nap time, and I didn't see any sign that we are close to take pictures. When I asked when we can take pictures, we were told that the persons with earlier appointments were still waiting too. At this point, it is impossible for us to take any more pictures. So we decided to leave. Obviously, the studio made way too many appointments at the same time, and cannot treat customers with respect. During the two hours we were there, only TWO groups of people finished their photo taking and started to pick pictures, and at the same time, at least SIX groups of people were waiting. Most of staff there were fine, but some staff was really rude. Anyway, we won't go back to this studio any more. read more

I was very disappointed this last time I went there. It would be the 4th time I take my 3 year old there and the 2nd for my 3month old. I should have known better. All the cousins took pictures when my son was 5 days old and I complained he was too little for all those extra poses and lighting but they said they were "required to take shots of each child separately". I was very upset and finally told them to stop when he was looking cross eyed, for god's sake he was not even a week old but they had to "follow their rules". So we went again for a family picture and this time both kids did pretty good but I felt so rushed was not happy with the outcome. They put me in uncomfortable positions, didn't give us time to ask for different poses, there was no creativity in the poses, no variety in backgrounds just white and gray, and I felt that they just rushed my 3 yr old through his self portrait shots. I was hoping to do some standing family poses to match with our previous fam pic, but by the time I realized we didn't do any she was already showing us the packages. And every time we asked a question she had to consult it with someone else and they still didn't have a straight answer. We were not pleased with the pictures so we decided to just get the 1 pose special and one extra sheet of the baby pics. Of course they kept pushing for us to buy $250 package so we could get the CD with high resolution pictures. We ended up getting a $70 package with CD, 3 poses and a collage. They said we should go pick them up the next day because it would take too long, even though we were the only ones there, they just wanted to close. Next day the hubby goes after work and guess what, wrong sizes, wrong picture on the collage, and a really bad one. Again they said come back tomorrow and we will print the right ones. I called them to ask for my money back, I wanted to return everything and just get my 1 pose package. They said no refunds only offered a new session. So I called corporate and they didn't seem to care about my complaints but they will mail me a check after I go return my stuff and get a voucher from the studio which I have to fax to corporate. It is all very upsetting, they give too much run around, no one wants to be held responsible. And they need to train their photographers on being more creative not just having someone sit there and take picture after picture. The only thing they were good at was making my kids laugh for the pictures, I will give them that. But they could have told me that my hair was messed up or that I looked too stiff instead of just letting the pictures be ruined. Overall an unpleasant experience, I will not go there again. If you want cheap prices there are many photographers in the Houston area that will do 30-60 minute sessions on beautiful outside locations for $50-100 and you get the CD so you can print your own pics. read more

I was extremely disappointed that this place continuously over books or books the appointments too close together. I had a 9am appointment, didn't get photographed until after 11am. The positives the female manager was awesome , even after a few upset customers voicing their concerns she was polite to everyone that approached her. Trust me many customers were upset. We made an appointment at 2:30 on a Saturday. We sat and watched 4 other families go through their sessions. Didn't mind the wait, because we got to see how it all worked and were very excited for our session. Then the negative started. During our session, there was no guidance, no asking what kind of stance you'd like. It was REALLY fast, which was surprising, because we watched 4 other families and the photographer was fixing ties, adjusting stances, and showing how to stand. About 30 minutes went by and the photographer said, "ok We're done!" When we sat down to view our pictures, I was literally in tears. There was not one photograph that someone wasn't hunched over, or having their eyes closed.... when I mentioned I didn't like the photos, she said, "Well we can adjust them." What really made me so upset is that I watched her take time and really assist other families through and just really rush through ours. So $300 later, I can't even hand out the photographs and I super embarrassed of them. Do not go to this location! To me, the chance of being treated like we were and having poor pictures like we had IS NOT worth the risk. I will never go back to them! read more

I hope to save someone money and time. I called 2 weeks ago to set an appointment for this past Saturday 12/5 @ 5pm. I arrived at 4:50pm and was not called in till about 6:25pm. During this time I requested to speak with a manager to complain about the wait time, the employee directed me to the managers, Tasha and Julie whom were no where to be found. Finally, I was able to locate them. They were both sitting in a car in the parking lot smoking right outside the studio. They were VERY unprofessional, not just for them sitting outside but also the way they were dressed and spoke was very unprofessional. Also, the pricing on their packages make no sense what's so ever! The total price they wanted to charge me for 6 poses was about $299.99. We started over, took some poses out, every time I would take sheets out of my package the price would go up!! And if I were to add a sheet it would also go up!! I was very upset, when I brought this up to the manager all she said was, "that's corporates pricing". The managers were very rude at handling the situation. Im not saying this company is all bad, I just think it was the management at this location. I do not recommend this place to anyone. I am a very disappointed customer, after having a bad experience 5 months ago I decided to give them a chance to redeem themselves "Why did I do that!!" I won't say they have the worst customer service but I will say one bad apple has spoiled the bunch for me and we will not be back. This past May my baby did photos there and unfortunately we could not give them out or display them because the towel they used as a prop had a big visible tag in the picture & ruined it, also the cropping on the other poses made it difficult to even frame because it would cut out her face, after being promised that it would get fixed FIVE months later we are still without corrected pictures or my CD. The manager and I came to agreement for us to come in and take new photos done by her, well she was out sick no one bothered to call and cancel the session and to add insult to injury I experienced the worst representative there "TY" she was rude, screamed at me over the phone and basically gave me the impression that she didn't value my business. I will not be back and I hope those that reading will re frame from going there also. If you are looking for good customer service.. DO NOT go to this studio!! Every experience I have had with them has been terrible. The first time we got our pictures taken on a Sunday they said their printing machine was broken and the pictures would not be ready till the next business day once the technician came in to fix the machine. I called everyday Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday every day they continued to tell me the machine was still broken. When I finally had enough and called on Friday requesting my money back for I no longer wanted the pictures they called me back two hours later to tell me they went to a different location to print my pictures. They had taken my money on the spot but it took 3-4 weeks to get my refund back! My second visit I was told the pictures would take 20mins to print, then the lady says it will take 45mins for the machine to warm up before they can print the pictures. An hour & a half later they told me they had to restart the machine. I decided I did not need the pictures anymore.. too much of a hassle, I requested my refund and got out of there!! read more

Very bad service. Our appointment was scheduled for 5 pm and an hour and a half later we still had two people in front of us. When I asked the lady at the front desk why they over booked she said its normal for photographers to over schedule and people to wait an hour. Needless to say, they didn't deserve our money so we are taking our business elsewhere. read more

This was one of my worst portrait experiences. I have also used Target, Picture Me, and Sears. First, though we were on time for our appointment, we had to wait an additional 45 minutes to get our pictures taken (though we were told it would be 15-20 minutes when we checked in). Next, we were not offered any background choices. We were given a white background, with holes and dirty spots. I had thought these dark spots would be photoshopped out of the pictures, but that was not the case. When I talked to the manager about the condition of their backdrops, she told me that the store had been requesting new ones from corporate for some time, but this request was not granted because it was getting close to the end of the company's fiscal year. Another issue with the pictures was that although the background was white the entire time, the later pictures looked like we had a gray background. When I pointed this out to the manager, she first explained that the photographer "fixed" the lighting as time went on. I told her this didn't make sense because it was the later pictures that had the problem. Then she said that sometimes the lights get dimmer as the session continues. Another equipment issue? Not a quality place in my book. My last issue with Portrait Innovations is that the photographer didn't make a good attempt to make my children smile. My daughter is 2 and telling her to smile just isn't going to cut it. I gave this company two stars instead of one because they did offer to touch up the pictures and reprint them. This would have been great if I could have gotten them immediately (which would have been possible if the printer was working). Now I have to drive back there for the third time. They also did offer me a retake session. Bottom line, this place has some serious issues it needs to get fixed. It needs new backdrops, new lighting, more engaged photographers, and a working printer. read more
