Kept charging me after I canceled my subscription and spoke to 3 different people on 3 different occasions! DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS.

Long story short, NEVER EVER sign up for their online subscription service. My subscription costed around $13 for quite a while and honestly, I wasn't using the service all that much so I wanted to cancel. Website under maintenance. Ok, no big deal, I'll try again later. Every time I would try to cancel (tried numerous times over a period of a couple of months), the website was always under maintenance, making it impossible to cancel. It seems like it was only the account portion of the website that was down, everything else worked on the website Then a few months ago, my subscription rate doubled without notification. I eventually did get a notification four days AFTER they banged my credit card, so I contacted customer service requesting a refund and was assured I would receive my refund in 2-4 weeks. 2-4 weeks?? Unreasonable as I get a refund for anything else much faster than these idiots. Multiple emails later claiming they initiated the refund, I have never received it so they lie to your face constantly. At least my subscription is now cancelled but they have my money. Don't make the same mistake I made and avoid this company at all costs. read more

They require you to call, which directs you to a foreign call center and the second you mention you want to cancel, they act like they can't hear you and they hang up on you because they say they need to assist other customers. Well the new 3 days a week USPS delivery of the Post Start is off to a great start. No paper on Saturday at all. Tried calling, contacting customer service all to no avail. Finally got through to a call center that handles the Post Star as one of their many accounts Absolutely frustrating. Young lady was no help. Stated will contact paper about this problem. Don:t waste your money on a subscription to The Post Star. It is impossible to contact a local representative. Instead your call is digitally put through to a recording. When you finally get a human being on the phone, they barely speak or understand English. This paper constantly discontinues popular parts that people enjoy, substituting unsatisfactory content. What a way to run a business!!!!!!! Customer frustration at its best. About a month into this fiasco they will be out of business if they can't deliver a product when they say . I am another "no paper Saturday" customer and about ready to call it quits. Customer service is a joke---cannot understand the person to begin with---have to ask her to repeat everything. I called today to see if I could get a Saturday paper mailed to me-----answer was no. I then asked her what they did with all the undelivered papers----answer was "I don't know". WE need a dependable newspaper and someone needs to be put in charge that knows what they are doing. Maybe the "Chronicle" should take it over ----they are a pretty successful weekly. After 2 weeks and 4 phone calls with their representatives getting abusive with me and telling me that i don't have an active account, they called me today to ask for payment on my subscription. I called twice and was told that my subscription was canceled as of tomorrow. They STILL won't send me confirmation. Their reason? "Our calls are recorded so we have record." Well I don't! What was once a small city newspaper that you could be proud of has turned into an out of area rag that gives next to no local news and what it does print just doesn't fit with the area. Almost all of the editorials about locals are on the negative side. I haven't bought it for myself in quite a while. We were buying an overpriced subscription for my 103 year old mother but she said that the only thing in the whole paper that interested her were the crossword puzzles and sometimes they weren't challenging. If there was a zero rating I would use that, I begrudgingly give it one star. read more

Wish I could give it no stars. The new delivery by the USPS that started on 7/11/23 is a joke! Supposed to now come in the mail 3 days a week instead of being delivered to home by carrier 7 days a week. On the very first week, we got NO PAPER at all on SAT (7/15). Supposed to come in mail on Tues, Thurs, & Sat. So now no paper until next Tues! Can't trust the Post Star for anything. They sent a letter to subscribers dated 6/13 stating this change & if you have questions about the changes call an 877# or to email this email address: custserv@poststar.com - that's exactly from the letter. The phone # gets you no human, no explanation as to why no paper was delivered, & just states they'll credit your account. The phone numbers for local staffers only go to voice mail (I left a message, no return call) & trying other circulation staffers still goes to one person even with different numbers & names! Then, I emailed them at above address & it came back as "Undeliverable!" They apparently put it wrong in their own letter - or did it on purpose so you still can't reach them! I found another email online & am now trying that one. I've called multiple numbers, left messages, sent emails - all I want is, if they are so proud of decreasing their delivery & now making it only through the USPS, why can't they still get it delivered properly the very first week! Still incredulous that with all the news of the world and NYS, this paper struggles to produce a wimpy, wispy daily edition of the same issues day after day: 1) Bash any Conservative/Republican esp the current President. 2) Climate Change! Climate Change! A record four articles today. 3) Reprint the same article or part of the article in the same edition - sometimes on the same or facing page. 4) Annual articles like clock work: Americade and how the weather effected it; Ticks & Lyme Disease; Rainwalker... 5) Letters to the editor from the same idiots month after month. 6) The ridiculous Puzzle Books to bulk up the paper and drain $5 out of your account - and you can't opt out. 7) Wimpy comics page including some weird crap about a girl and her unicorn. Here I sit on a Sunday wanting to place an ad or two with the Post Star, searching for Ad rates, and a classified ad location, but I am totally blocked from any information unless I turn off an AD BLOCKER notice - which shows it's ugly face no matter what I type in Google to search for ad rates and instructions for how to place my classified and my display ad. It's no wonder that the POST STAR has a myriad 1-2-1/2 stars rating when I can't even access your your website to send money and place an ad. I do not know how ad blocker got on my computer, much less how to turn it off. You guys should "wise-up" and at least allow us poor souls who still think the printed media is somewhat valuable - to have access to ad rates and then, after I search for and place an ad - you can continue to block other manners of data which you still want to block me from reading unless I subscribe - but, ....Alas! Your tactic all leads me to place a single star rating on your website and I will know to never try to access the website again. So, bottom line is - you lose - in the midst of your "want" to win and make your website a money-maker - by having paid dearly for your website generation and paid your web designer extra big bucks to be certain the Ad Blocker notice flies to the front - no matter what page we access for our reason to seek you - and is in our faces no matter what.....as in "maybe if" I saw more of your product I may have even decided to buy a subscription. You lose. Not your intent, I am certain, but most certainly a poorly thought out reasoning for AD BLOCKER! It all reminds me of prior days when landowners had a road between two cities passing through their land - and without notice to the contrary - erected a TOLL GATE, to force a traveler, happily enjoying the countryside, to dig in their purse for a penny or two in order to pass through the gate - and wondering what other unannounced toll gates they may have to pay in order to reach their destination. I am reviewing the Glens Falls Post Star from the aspect of a Business dealing with The Post Star as a paper distributor. We are small business who has carried the Post Star for years (more than my 35 years but likely it is probably carried here since it began printing). The Post Star is one of the most difficult Companies we deal with. They refuse to give drop slips at delivery point. We need to count our papers every day because we are regularly shorted. We are required to submit shortages weekly or no credit. But reallly how are we supposed to know what we are being billed for if we don't receive a drop slip? We are billed once a month - but unsold returns must be submitted weekly via email.... And if for some reason they can't be submitted within 2 weeks - tough - no credit for you. If your credits don't match up - it is a Fight - to get them corrected. We had almost $200 worth of shortage credits not given to us. I had to resubmit my records repeatedly...just to be told the credit would be there the next month and have them not show up again! Trying to make a phone call to them is nearly impossibly - always get a voicemail and never a return call. I have one email contact - and she responds when it is convenient - but not always when I need her to. Overall- with all the frustrations Post Star has given us, and the very little profit from sales - I lose money with the time I spend trying to fix billing and credit issues. Most of our customers wouldn't miss having this paper in our Newspaper rack. If it were completely up to me, I would discontinue it. read more

I have received the print edition of the Post Star for decades. I always had great carriers and was happy to provide a generous tip at renewal time. Since late 2017 I've had the worst carrier ever. I've complained numerous times and am assured they will communicate with him. If they did, it didn't register with him. Some of my problems with him: --supposed to toss paper on porch which is about 20 ft. from the street. He tosses it out the window of the car and it lands wherever. --One Sunday paper, which was very heavy, he threw hard hitting my storm door and breaking off an 11 inch piece plus shattering around the break. --He comes when he feels like it---between 6:30 and 9 a.m. Last week he delivered next door at 7:30 and left, returned in the afternoon with my paper. Then there are the times when the paper doesn't come at all. My subscription runs out in April 2017 and I will be dropping it. I don't need this hassle at my age---in my 70's. The paper has more ads than news anyway. read more

The Post Star is our local newspaper, and I've been a subscriber since moving to the area. They are the best source of local news in the area, so on that basis alone they should be about 4 stars. Unfortunately, they have seen better days. They proudly boast of a Pulitzer won years ago, even long after the reporter who earned the award has left the paper. Many days there just isn't much to read at all, and you find only a small handful of locally written stories, the rest of the content coming from the AP or other syndicated work. Most of the local reporters are quite good at what they do, but they don't do a great job at connecting with their readers. They have to quickly move on to the next story, so there isn't much if any actual debate on what they have written. It makes them come across as somewhat aloof. Especially at the top. Try and debate any of the senior staff and you will be met with condensation and distain. They get into personal feuds with the local community, which only widens the disconnect. It creates an image of being against the local community rather than being a part of it. In the last year the Post Star has sued the city of Glens Falls, and taken money from the taxpayers, they cancelled their sponsorship of a popular local parade at the last minute, almost making it so the parade didn't happen. Then in an effort to boost ad revenue, they started a free weekly paper for those who are not subscribed, the end result being many people who did not want the paper, having to call to cancel and neighborhoods throughout the region are being littered with these freebies. Senior leadership cannot seem to see their point of view at all, and have been very hostile to those who are fighting this practice. Most recently they laid off their local printing staff to move off site. All signs point to the paper being on their lat legs unless they can learn how to connect with their audience. read more

I agree with the other reviewers in terms of repetitive content, whining editors, and very unprofessional editing and writing. However, there's something else I'd like to warn folks about. I was a subscriber for 15 years. Several times, my 6-month pre-paid subscription was cut short and I was billed again after only 4 months or 5 months. Multiple phone calls to customer service and the circulation dept produced nothing but double-talk and no solutions. Not only that, but the price kept going up significantly. The last time I was quoted $310 for 6 months. They were supposed to send me a corrected bill with the correct dates (not cutting 2 months off the subscription I already paid for), and a discount (because no way was I going to pay $620 a year for this piece of garbage), and instead they cancelled my subscription. I have since subscribed to the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and love it. The articles, writing, comics, puzzles, other features, and journalistic professionalism are much higher and it's a pleasure to read. Meanwhile, it's been 5 months and the Post-Star keeps calling and hanging up on my voice mail without leaving a message, presumably to get me to subscribe again even though I informed them I was going to stay "cancelled." Like I said, very unprofessional. I have since spoken to quite a few other people whose subscriptions were cut short after they had already paid. So just a heads-up, if you get the Post-Star, don't give them your credit card, pay by check and keep track of how many months you're actually getting before they send you another bill or call to tell you your payment (which isn't due for another 2 months) is late. read more

I am so disappointed in the post star. First the delivery is getting later and later. They like to blame it on the delivery person but I believe it is due to the changes in printing now in the Albany area. Second....the paper itself is gotten very weak. Very little content......I'm lost for words to share my frustration! Guess the post star has too! read more
