Maria saved my family. I was referred to Maria from a friend. I was concerned about my baby's temperament and BF habits. I had already seen two other lactation consultants and he was my second so I had some experience but knew something was off. He was 5.5 months old. Maria has experience and knowledge and fearlessly shares it with you. I as a Mom needed to hear what she had to say and in the way she said it. She believed a number of my son's symptoms: not pooping every day, colic, constant crying, not liking tummy time, and sleep issues were caused by a tongue and lip tie. I can't recommend Maria and Postpartum Place enough. After a terrible first few weeks of trying to get my son to latch, as well as a bad experience with another LC in Morristown, Maria was a miracle worker. She got my baby to latch instantly, calmed my nerves, and gave me hope to do it on my own. She was available 24/7 for texts and video calls, which was so helpful at home. She is also a bodywork and tongue tie specialist, which has been a tremendous help for my son. Maria is kind, compassionate, knowledgable, and professional. So glad we found her! read more

Unless you want fear mongering do not go to this place. Maria is knowledgeable, but also did not listen to why I came to the PPP. I went for breastfeeding and milk supply support, and left with "your child is lip and tongue tied," and you need to call this $1000 surgeon in Manhattan, and take my cranial sacral therapy classes for $275 a pop. In the end, I did not receive the help I wanted with feeding; Maria gave me a position that was unachievable at home, and all I got was a dose of unnecessary fear. I did not go to Siegel (the surgeon), and I cancelled the CST appointments I had. My child is doing fine, and I was able to resolve the over-supply issues on my own. read more

I want to cry, I'm so happy to have found this place. I just got off the phone with Eileen and I felt like I should write a review immediately. I have mastitis and have been given the wrong diagnosis twice. This has led to horrible pain and just an overall miserable breastfeeding experience. After chatting with her on the phone I finally feel like someone knows what I'm going through and will finally be able to heal. She was straight to the point, kind and very informative. My husband and I found Maria to be very uncaring with horrible bedside manner. Like someone else said, she hands out old photocopied articles. She wanted me to take my 2 week old to chiropractor. She showed me no techniques and said that my son was "tongue-tied." I took him to an oral surgeon and the doctor said he was fine. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Maria is like the Sherlock Holmes of breastfeeding! I've talked to many friends like myself and she solved all of our problems to help us succeed when nursing gets tough. She looks for clues for any complications on the mother, on the baby, on the nipple, everywhere. She can put together a holistic picture of what is going on and help fix it in a short amount of time. I called Maria 4 days after birth because my boobs were enormous and hurting and yet I could not pump any milk out of them. She gave me free advice on the phone and did not even ask me to pay her or make an appointment. She was generous with her knowledge and hung up and wished me luck. A few days later I thought I had mastitis because I had a high fever and still a lot of breast pain. It turns out I had an unrelated flu but Maria did find that my daughter had torticollis and tongue tie. My daughter was not gaining back her birth weight and she was over 3 weeks old. She recommended two amazing specialists for each issue and the three of them worked as a team, talking between my appointments, texting one another, etc. In just 2 short weeks our issues were taken care of and my daughter has put on over a pound. I am so grateful for holistic health care specialists like this in my area! I have texted Maria questions and she is quick to respond. She is also patient when I ask questions that I'm sure she has heard 1,000 times. She knows A LOT about babies! She is worth a visit for anyone having trouble nursing! read more

My son was born premature and underweight. He did not want to wake up to eat and he wasn't gaining weight. The hospital encouraged me to bottle feed. I met Maria and she saved us both. I still remember what a PHENOMENAL help Maria was to me with both my babies years ago! I just recommended her to my cousin and thought I'd look at the reviews out of curiosity. She is SO knowledgeable and kind - she literally can fix any problem and is a totally calming influence. In my case, she knew more than 2 pediatricians and saved our baby and our sanity! 2 peds said 'colic' and she knew right away our daughter had reflux. Maria saved my sanity! I was at such a low point after the birth of my baby... breast feeding was hard! I made an appointment with Maria and she was so warm, welcoming, down to earth... she immediately helped me latch my son correctly, gave advice on diet (apparently you can have a yeast infection in your nipples - ouch!). I left the office in a good mood! I've called back since with more questions and she doesn't rush me off the phone. She listens to all of my questions and hears what I have to say before she responds. She'll listen to you talk about all the stuff that you are worried about (color of baby's poop, and so on). After having an appointment with Maria, the only benefit I found was here weighing my baby. She will hand out old articles photocopied for a one-size fits most "diagnosis". She tells everyone to take Grapefruit Seed Extract which is completely unnecessary and dangerous. I can not even begin to express how indebted I am to Maria and the The Post Partum Place. Prior to my sons arrival, I had a one to one session with Maria. She spent two hours with me reviewing holds, going over information, showing videos, ect. After my son was born, we stopped at the center directly from the hospital. We called it "boob college." Although the nurses at the hospital tried to be supportive, everything clicked once we saw Maria. She has the magic touch, is dedicated to helping babies, and is a wealth of knowledge. Maria also makes herself extremely available to answer questions and continues to contact me daily to see how things are progressing. As a new mom, I envisioned the experience of breastfeeding to be much different than it has been going. I am grateful to have the support of the center to help me make this experience a positive one. I went to Postpartem Place soon after the birth of my daughter. Maria made me feel welcome from the second I walked in and helped me destress. I was a mess after giving birth and having a colicky infant. She taught me the basics of how to breastfeed and gave me and my husband much needed support. I also attended the new mom's group that Julie runs. This group was my sanity in dealing with colic and adjusting to being a new mother. I was able to meet other new moms and formed long-term friendships through this group. This group is rare in that you are able to be real about the good and bad feelings associated with being a new mother, to receive support, and to see that you are not alone. Postpartum Place is the perfect place for new moms and all parents, really. Maria (owner) is amazing and so is Julie who leads the moms groups. I highly recommend going to the new moms group as soon as you're able to get out the door with your newborn. The ideas and support you get from the other moms are so helpful and incredible friendships are made. I really didn't know how breastfeeding and returning to work was going to go, but these friends and this place got me through. --Everything Maria sells in the boutique is mom-approved and vetted. It's an absolute time saver to go in there and get products that will work/are the best, from slings to nursing pillows to camisoles. I can't say enough good things about my experiences here. I only wish I had known about the place sooner (before our baby was born) because she also has great pregnancy-related products and advice. read more

Don't be discouraged from the negative reviews. I've consulted with Maria with both of my children. She is no-nonsense but definitely caring! She always makes herself available and her techniques are fantastic. For example, before my daughter was born (my second baby) I called her to make an appointment. She offered to come to the hospital! I couldn't believe that but I declined and said I would come by her office. She will latch your baby immediately and is available for follow-ups and will teach you how to re-create the latch. She includes weigh-ins. She will help identify tongue-ties and encourage you to visit with a doctor, if necessary. If it weren't for Maria, I would never have breastfed my children. That's the truth. Maria is wonderful and provides advice and counseling on thrush (gasp!) and other colic and issues. Her services are covered by FSA and may be covered by your health insurance. There is also a fantastic new mom's group on Thursday mornings led by Julie. I would also read all of the "non-recommended" reviews. I don't know why they've been pushed to the bottom but read them too when deciding whether to visit with Maria. read more
