Hats off to the team at Potluck Caribbean Catering Cuisine!! It was my first time tasting authentic Jamaican foods and I was NOT disappointed! Flavourful "bone suckingly good!!! The oxtail, rice and peas, curry goat, ackee and saltfish, steamed vegetables, boiled bananas, dumplings, beef patties, festivals, coleslaw and red bean soup were soooooo tasty! Portions were generous and filling. Although the spice level was a bit high for me, I was not deterred by this. I completed the meal (s) due to the rich use of other known Caribbean ingredients. 2.5 ONLY because the fish both times I've been there , not the best, very dry . The akee w/ food , however was good , festival amazing . They threw browning on escovitch fish and called it brown stew . I'm pissed cause I spent good money on that and couldn't even eat it . The service was good both times , there was one girl at the front she was great. Clean restaurant , nice seating area . Would have given more stars had my money not been wasted on the fish. I'm surprised that I never heard about this place as I'm usually in the area. I had some time to kill before my appointment and was craving for some jerk chicken, a quick yelp search helped me find this place! It was a bit hard to find because their sign does not light up and it was hella dark outside... I drove by it a couple times but it is beside Little Caesar if you try to go later at night and can't seem to find it LOL I ordered a small jerk chicken with oxtail gravy and jerk sauce. The portion is actually pretty big compared to other caribbean restaurants I been to, where a small is just the square box. IT WAS PRETTY BOMB!! The meat was so juicy and tender, and fell right off the bone. I like that the chicken wasn't just a thigh and leg like most places so there was a ton more meat than usual. The rice also complimented the chicken very well - I know this sounds weird but I find that the rice portion at most Caribbean restaurants are so dry. So this was a very nice change! You know that feeling where you recall eating at a restaurant but can't remember whether it is good or not? As I am on the cusp of geezorhood this seems to happen a lot more often than I would like but one recurring theme always stands out. You don't remember for a reason! So I decided to visit this restaurant for a second time during lunch hour. A few tables, simple decor (as in no decor) and a TV playing CP24. Asked for a jerk chicken dinner with extra oxtail gravy on the rice and chicken which cost me about $10. So far so good. When I tried the chicken I suddenly received an influx of memories from my last visit. The verdict? Nothing. The chicken is bland even with the oxtail gravy which kind of surprised me as the chicken "looked" really good. If I were to describe the oxtail gravy I would say oily with remnants of oxtail taste. The perfect analogy would be bubble gum after chewing it for a while. You kind of taste the original flavor yet not. Maybe I'm missing something here as the nice lady did ask me if I wanted jerk sauce. I politely declined as I have never heard of that before. Shouldn't the jerk be embedded into the skin and meat anyways? To be fair, its not like there are many Carribean restaurants in the area so it might be good for a quick fix. I had a bit of time to kill before an event I attended at the Mississauga Convention Centre. Driving passed the MCC, I decide to go into this new strip plaza figuring there would be something. As soon as I stumbled on Potluck, it got me. Then the question became whether it was Trini or Jamaican food. Saw the menu and jerk chicken was front and centre. I actually wanted the callaloo and saltfish. They said they didn't have any. You know it's a West Indian thing when they don't feel like making something. The guy's half-assed no told the tale. So I went for the small jerk chicken breast with rice and steamed veggies. The sauce was an oxtail sauce over the rice. The bed of rice was massive. The jerk was kinda spicy so I had to add lots of hot sauce. With water, the total came under $10. If it wasn't for the fact I didn't get my callaloo and saltfish, I would have rated this place a 4. I mean it's not a bad place but of course since I'm half Trini, you know Jamaican food will always get lower grades. HAHA!! read more

I've seen this restaurant so many times and decided to finally try this place. I had no idea what to order as it is my first time trying Caribbean food. I asked the server what she recommended. She was really nice and recommended that I get the Jerk Chicken Dinner with Coleslaw. The chicken was so tender and had the right level of spice. I don't have a high spice tolerance, but it had just the right amount of spice that I could handle. The rice was really delicious and tasted creamy. I think I tasted some coconut which I really liked. The portion size was pretty big for a small. It was more food than I could finish. Oxtail and rice and beans please....do you have any? We live nearby and when we feel like Caribbean food we'll go and get take out. However, often times more than not, everything we want is sold out. Roti, is always sold out. Jerk chicken, is always sold out. Ox tail however, is sometimes available and when it is available, man it's good. Fall off the bone, savoury gravy, fantastic with the rice and beans. Also, their "veggie" is coleslaw. Once, I saw a customer order festivals and I have to say they looked delicious! Don't bother, this place is a complete disappointment. I have been there on numerous occasions and although they are on the menu they do not have certain items. I would understand if it was late night and close to closing, but at the lunch hour certain staples should be available. How can you call yourself a Caribbean restaurant and NOT HAVE CURRY CHICKEN?!?! That is like Mc Donald's not having French Fries!!! The staff is absolutely unapologetic and seemed annoyed by my surprise. Puzzled I asked... "but isn't curry chicken on the menu?" I got "Not today". Save yourself the stress this is Mississauga/Brampton there are hundreds of Good West Indian Restaurants. Daddy Jerks is just down the road. Soooooo delicious! I went here on a referral from a friend and I am so glad I listened. The jerk chicken was AMAZING. I usually prefer to eat it homemade because I find many of these restaurants will have the chicken too dry. But oh my goodness was this chicken flavourful, tender and juicy!!! The rice and peas with oxtail gravy was amazing and the coleslaw was perfect. Plus the workers here were all very nice and friendly and you can tell they love what they do. 10/10 read more

I happened to be in the area and was going to grab a pizza until I'm like, "nah man.. It's a jerk chicken kinda day!" First time being here and surprised that it wasn't yelped since its been around for the past year or two, according to the cashier. It's a small place with a TV and it happens to look really dark during the day time, they need better lighting. I grabbed the small jerk chicken with coleslaw and extra oxtail gravy. Since the place is small I decided to do take out. Took the cook 5 minutes to make it and I decided to eat it in my car because I became more hungry while I waited. So I got white meat, it was a pretty good portion size, and the chicken was medium spicy which made it easy to eat. I found that I've had better Jerk chicken, a little more flavourful. The rice seemed a little bland even with the extra oxtail gravy. They also put a fair amount of coleslaw which was delicious. Since the food was fresh it was still enjoyable. If you need a quick fix for Jamaican food, this restaurant will do just that! read more

My first visit with a co-worker and I went straight for the Cadillac meal. The Oxtail and a large size I might add. I even requested for their homemade hot sauce. I have to say that it was nice meal not blowing off my socks great but it was nice. Their coleslaw is pretty good has a nice crunch to it and not to sweet or sour just right. Let me say, this USED to be my favorite place to grab jerk/oxtail and rice. Great staff, great portions, and great customer service. I used to go every Friday but all that changed a couple months ago. It seems something was changed with management and they decided to rotate staff through ALL of their 3 locations in the area (Dundas, Derry, and Meadowville). I have never had a worst experiences ordering food. At the Mississauga location I had to repeat my order to the waitress at least 4 times in a span of 10 minutes while waiting for chicken to finish cook... how do people like this find jobs? They ran out of gravy and coleslaw 5pm in the day... how does that make sense? Another time I went, they refused to give me more than two baby spoons of gravy on my rice without paying an EXTRA 5$. Are these people high? You guys are ruing your business and soon you will see that sales will decrease. Your quality and customer service have gone down and I honestly regret that, because I used to enjoy coming. PS... some of the staff that were great there ended up quitting, and you can find them at various other Jamaican restaurants in Brampton. read more

Terrible Caribbean food! This is the furthest thing from Caribbean! Curry chicken didn't even have a curry flavour- tasted like yellow, thickened, bland sauce. They only had plain white rice that tasted like sticky minute made rice. Their jerk chicken had no blackened jerk flavour at all and the chicken was dryer than the bone itself. My brother and I were so displeased with the food that we went and grabbed fast food after. Staff were friendly, clean place overall, but the food definetely needs a makeover. 40 bucks for 2 plates with 2 sides, no drinks. Complete rip off. read more

Stopped in here for lunch one day, ordered a small jerk chicken, went to the washroom and saw live roaches in the washroom, walked back to the dining room and seen roaches in the hallway leading from dining room to washroom. Completely disgusted at this point, so I decided to pass and eat somewhere else, considering roaches congregate in areas where there is heat and moisture, the front hot food heating and service table must have been loaded with roaches.
