Even when the library is empty of customers, the librarians are LOUD! Always talking and laughing with no regard to people trying to study. What ever happened to the librarian hushing others out of respect for those attempting to focus? The location is small as it is, which is fine, except it is loud. They also are in need of a conference room. I once was studying and a group sat next to me that was learning Spanish! Another situation was a group of high school students viewing a film. I understand and respect the small community providing a safe location for people to gather and learn from one-another, however, there is a community building available for recreational activities, and where are the people to go when the resource they are seeking is a quiet area to focus their thoughts? Defiantly not the San Diego County Library Campo-Morena Village branch. It is honestly a place to socialize and pick up movies/books.

I came in as a first time visitor, and was provided with a complete tour of the library. From the available events space, bookstore, computer lab, to the books. I stayed for about two hours completing work, before heading to the back deck where I watched people enjoying their time in the park with birds singing. I reached my campsite and decided to read up on the library. The reviews were great so I decided to go the next day. Since I was visiting in the area I asked the librarian if they had any info what to do in town. She was very helpful and friendly. After pointing me in the direction to look for things to do in town. I sat and looked around the library and was admiring the architecture. It was a gloomy, windy and very wet day. But, being inside the library I didn't get that feeling. It was bright and open and with floor to ceiling glass windows it brought the outside beauty indoors. They had individual work rooms, meeting rooms, teens and youths areas. I decided to walk around and view the outdoors from the youth section. There the floor to ceiling windows opened up an entire room you can only look at from your chair. With the storm hovering above you could see Mother Nature in the works. What a grand room! So also in this area they had set up on the tables easels with canvas and paint supplies. I found out from the librarian that they sometime offer different art projects for anyone to do at no charge! So after my town adventures in the rain I returned to do a little painting of my own. In the two hours that I was there painting I also enjoyed the sound of the heavy rain tapping on the rooftop and windows. Watching the plants blowing in the wind and the dark clouds pass by. The library has a security guard just inside the front door. The entrance lobby is open and bright. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I would definitely return to the library if I'm in town. Getting productive in a beautiful space with a front row seat to the ocean. This library has plenty of seating options (most of which are ocean facing) with most having outlets or being near an outlet. There's a nice patio out front if you need to eat a quick bite, take a call, or pop out for a killer picture of the sunset. The entire space is adorably nautical themed with a little children's nook. It stays pretty quiet overall too! Definitely on my list of all-time favorite libraries.

In the past, there were quite a few houseless folks. I didn't see any this time. It was pretty full for it being mid day. The event space has a lovely gallery that I enjoyed meandering through and taking it in. It's an incredible space dedicated to genealogy and history, making it the perfect place to dive into family research. This visit was especially meaningful because I brought family members who were visiting from out of town. As we prepare for an upcoming family reunion while also grieving the recent loss of a loved one, we were able to uncover photographs of family members we had never seen before. It was an emotional and unforgettable experience that made our visit truly special. One of the best features is that the library offers free access to genealogy resources like Ancestry Library Edition and other historical databases that have helped me piece together my family's story. I also recently learned that every Tuesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., volunteer genealogy specialists are available to help the public--for free! I'll definitely be returning during those hours because researching family history often feels like peeling back the layers of an onion. Every discovery leads to another story waiting to be told. The only downside is the parking. The library offers two hours of free covered parking, which sounds generous until you get immersed in research. Time flies when you're digging through historical records, and two hours disappears quickly. If possible, I'd recommend taking the trolley to avoid having to move your car or pay expensive parking fees--especially considering the library is just a short walk from Petco Park. You can also opt to take your car out every 2 hours ans re-park in the garage.... Ijs One thing to keep in mind is that on Padres game days, the library parking garage may close early to accommodate game-day parking. While I understand why they do it, it can be frustrating if you're planning a long research session. Overall, I highly recommend this library. Whether you're researching your family tree, looking for a peaceful place to study, or simply wanting a quiet escape from the city, the ninth floor is an absolute treasure. It is so big, with so many different sections. They have an area for young toddlers, to toddlers, to kids. I was so impressed with how much books they have. In addition to that, they have CDs, DVDs, magazines, pretty much anything you can think of. There are a couple of different areas where they can sit and learn. I do love how there were different types of seats as well, for instance, for the younger kids they have the little balanced chairs. There is lots of play area for the kids to have sensory play. They have educational computers, there was four. They have a little area for kids to play with toys and use their imagination, so many good items. There are puzzles, coloring, pages, arts and crafts. I was really blown away with how great this library is. The staff who helped me, I did not get her name, but she was so friendly and answering, and all my questions. They have so many activities also throughout the week, such as reading time and other arts and crafts that you can do amongst other peers. I am so looking forward to bringing my child here so that he can have more socialization with other kids. And mind you, this is all free, which is so amazing. I mean, obviously we have tax dollars that goes toward this. . But yeah, you can check out their schedule for what they offer for the kids. Yeah I think this is the best library so far that I've been to for the kids in San Diego. You can also park underground. Just make sure you take your parking validation upstairs so you do get the first two hours free when validated. After that, I believe it's $1.25 per hour or something like that. Which is very reasonable for downtown. Just remember if there's any events, like the baseball games or anything like that, there might be a surcharge, for example when comic con comes on as well. This is definitely a great learning spot for young children. And if you or someone you know, doesn't have the financial means to do arts and crafts, buy so many books, or have enough space to even how all of these things, this is great that this library has it all for free. I have taken my son to the little play area where we pay like $15 an hour for him to run around and it's further up in Mira Mesa. This is just another great alternative for a fraction of the cost. Sorry I just love this so much. We are definitely coming back here and also exploring as many different libraries as we can.

HOW DARE YOU! In…read moreMay, shortly after my mother passed away, I went into the PQ Library to notify them of my mom's death and return several books she had checked out. The staff member at the front desk immediately recognized my moms name (she frequently taught classes, checked out books and was an avid community member). The lady at the desk showed genuine compassion, gave me a hug, shared kind stories about her, and assured me that my mom's account would be updated and that any remaining or future book issues would be taken care of. I left feeling grateful during an incredibly difficult time. Fast forward six months later--my sister and I received a Past Due Notice for a book still under my deceased mother's account. I called the library to resolve it and spoke with Adrian. I explained that my mother had passed away and that this had already been handled in person. His response was simply, "That's unfortunate--we have an entirely new staff." No condolences. No empathy. After giving him my mom's information, he put me on hold and then transferred me to his manager, Ywen--without explaining anything to her. She answered the phone asking how she could help, forcing me to relive and explain my mother's death all over again. When I expressed how upsetting this was, I was told, "Unfortunately, you're going to have to." Again--no sympathy, no compassion. When I pointed out the complete lack of customer service and basic humanity, Ywen told me to call back when I could "gather myself" and then hung up on me. To make matters worse, I was told I would need my deceased mother's library card to resolve the issue. Losing a parent is devastating. Being forced to repeatedly explain it--and being treated with indifference and disrespect--was completely unacceptable. The contrast between the kindness shown in May and the behavior of the current staff is shocking. If you have a loved one who passes away, apparently, you'd better hang on to their library card--because compassion is no longer guaranteed here.

While I'm excited about the grand reopening of this location, I'm also sad to see the mall location…read moreclosing. I ask the city to reconsider this decision. I spoke with a librarian today, and they shared that the mall location has brought so many families into the library. The mall is a unique place because it puts reading front and center. It places a library directly in front of children and families who might not otherwise visit one. Before making a final decision, I encourage the city to look at the numbers after six months to a year. If more people used the mall library then that seems like a strong reason to keep it open.

Having 4 separate storefronts: adult library, kids' library, events, and bookstore is a genius idea. When I'm with my kids I don't have to worry about volume nearly as much and they absolutely love the little play area they have set up in the kids' library. The librarians are so friendly and helpful and they have a great selection of books in wonderful condition. My son especially enjoys their expansive collection of level 3 readers and their language learning DVDs. He also enjoys the reading programs like the In N Out cover to cover program. The location feels safe and comfortable and our new favorite spot to hang out.
