To the extent that when I returned to pickup my item they apologized for not remembering my last name! I didn't even know the worker's first name! Class act. The auctions are fun. Ok maybe not "fun" but they can be interesting to the right crowd. So much retail is moving online it's nice to find a place that combines the two. So as a seller you still get the benefit of a wide potential customer base but as a buyer you get some camaraderie in the audience. They even bring in free pizza - the auction goes for hours! Always a nice mix of items. Generally high end but some items can still be picked up for a bargain - particularly the larger items that are difficult to ship

I used to like this business. I might've even given them a great review. Not any more. They eventually found 2 of the 3-because I emailed often, stopped by sometimes and generally badgered them to find my lost stuff. It took 6 month to find this really cool one-of-a-kind framed item, and that only because I was demanding that they pay me for it, I think. I sent half a dozen of my clients there. Now I need to call and apologize. I've already discovered that one of them has been lied to by Direct. Totally done with them. It's too bad. I was a good source for them. This is a great loss, for them. I will recover.

Christies, etc) to the middle tier (Doyle, Bonhams, Heritage, etc) to the smaller auction houses including Toomey & Co Auctioneers. Although I have only purchased from Toomey a few times, the transactions have been flawless in all meaningful ways. High quality items, upscale but still reasonably priced, professional, friendly, responsive, trustworthy. I do not hesitate to rate Toomey & Co Auctioneers as 5/5 *****. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AUCTION HOUSE

I received billing for shipping through Wright Shipping, which uses only third-party shippers. They recommend shippers and then you pay separtely. Fine. I went with UPS. When the package was routed to the wrong place, I was left twisting in the wind and told that I would have to pay additional charges to actually get it delivered. Wright made no attempt to resolve the situation, help me, wave repeated additional fees, or intervene. I had an account at Christie's in NYC and London for decades and, trust me, they did not act like this. I would suggest that they either provide minimal service (like reading emails) or waive one-of-the-heftiest-in-the-business buyer's premiums. I copied Kevin in their shipping deprtment on all correspondence and he did not contact me. When I called him, his attitude was . . . "well, what do you want me to do." I made several suggestions including calling his colleague Julie at the UPS store . . . "oh, I spoke to her this morning . . . she says just pay a charge and they'll refund it to you." Right, because they've been so honest and so proactive all along. God knows if I will ever get my auction item and God knows if Toomey's description will be halfway accurate.
