The sound in this place is mesmerizing. Not a bad seat in the entire place. Seats are soft and cushiony - I have sciatica so that matters. Parking is easy enough if you get there 30-45 minutes early. The half star ding is due to the bathrooms not being handicapped accessible enough. There is a handicap stall in the restroom, but because the restroom is so small, it makes difficult for anyone in a wheelchair to enter. They should've built a separate handicap restroom just for the wheelchair accessible, especially since they cater to an older demographic - there were at least six nursing home buses double parked out front after the show. lol Otherwise, I highly recommend seeing shows there

I can't believe this theater is hiding in a nondescript building in the middle of SD. It has such ornate architecture and feels so intimate compared to other larger theatres. It looks like it was recently remodeled, as the exterior lobby area looks very modern. There are a couple entrances, the upper level entrance is on Seventh Ave., and the lower level entrance is on B Street. There are bars to purchase drinks on both levels, although lines were SUPER long. The B Street Entrance allows you to enter Knead bakery where you can buy coffee drinks, as well as pastries. While drinks are allowed in the theatre, food is not, so finish eating before you go in. The ushers are very helpful and one usher spent most of her time helping people take pictures in front of one of the signs. Although one lady on the lower level needs more training on seat locations. I purchased seats for our family, with my son in a handicap seat and his brother in the companion seat, and the rest of us in a different section. We showed her our seat numbers, and she put my 2 sons in an area in the lower level and sent the rest of us upstairs. I then got a call from my son saying that the usher said they were in the wrong seats and needed to move and go upstairs, so I had to run back downstairs and bring them upstairs. Luckily one of the supervising ushers saw us and helped us find our seats and graciously allowed our whole family to sit together in the handicap seating area. SD is so lucky to have such a special venue! If you have an opportunity to attend a show here, go!

While the balcony seats at the downtown Civic Theatre might leave you squinting at tiny figures at premium prices, here I felt like I was practically part of the show regardless of where I sat. And at these super reasonable prices? It's almost criminal how much value you're getting. Walking into their production of "Hello, Dolly!" I was immediately struck by how the modest stage might compare to larger Broadway venues. This is a place where size absolutely doesn't matter here. The creative team masterfully used every square inch of that space, with choreography that had me wondering how they fit so much spectacular dancing into such a cozy setting. Those dancers deserve medals for their spatial awareness alone! What truly sets SDMT apart is the caliber of talent they attract. This isn't just "good for local theater"--these are performers who deliver professional-quality entertainment that had me smiling from the opening number to the final bow. Great guy he is, doesn't even know what he is watching but took me on base to escape the Friday night crowd and give me a break from studying. This place charges more but it's still the same two decades later. Funny how that works out. Hahaha! Concessions: I guess asking for a refill after filling an empty container requires you to pay full price for another bag of popcorn! So, just be weary, inflation comes even to your safe havens and places from your child hood. Unfortunately for them, I am unfazed by the mistreatment. My dad is happy and I am seeing something I want to see. But it may be the last time Income here. Sad how serving a country only matters while your active service. There are plenty of seats and I was seated on the side of the orchestra towards the back. I had no view disruptions whatsoever. The bathroom was large and spacious and there were plenty of food/drink stations. There were also plenty of security and staff around so finding what you need and feeling safe was easy. The productions have always been very entertaining and well-produced, the caliber of actors is very high, and tickets are reasonable. I once made a dumb mistake--showed up on the wrong night, but the friendly person in the box office helped me avoid spoiling date night by exchanging my tickets from that night's performance. CONs Many shows don't sell out, so you may be disappointed if you're expecting a packed theatre. Personally, it's never bothered me and the audience has always been enthusiastic. The SKINNY I've been to many shows over the years and I've never been disappointed.

It's crazy that we lived less than a block from this theater for over 7 years, yet never had an…read moreoccasion to go inside...until we snagged a couple of tickets to an author panel at the Horton Grand during this year's Comic Con. We honestly didn't get much time inside the theater itself; the panel was an hour long, and they ran a tight ship. But, I will say that I loved the feel of the space. It's a smaller, more intimate theater than some of the other performance spaces downtown, and it doesn't seem like they have a "bad seat" in the house, just based on the layout. The acoustics were good so that we were able to hear all the women on the panel, even if they weren't so good at using the microphones. The seats were comfortable, and there was enough leg room for people to scoot by to seats in the middle of the row without having to step, trip or stumble over those who were already seated. All in all, I liked the space a lot, and am now trying to figure out when we can visit for an actual performance (not that I didn't love the panel, but theaters are made for performing arts, and I so want to see a show here!)
