Barre3 is the most inclusive and welcoming workout space I've found in KC!…read more I was nervous to try Barre3 because I don't have a dance background or much flexibility, but after taking a few classes through ClassPass, I ended up signing up for a membership. The workouts are genuinely fun while still being challenging. Over the last three months, I've taken Strength, Signature, and Mindful Flow classes, and every instructor has done an excellent job programming workouts, offering modifications to make movements either more accessible or more challenging, and giving helpful form cues throughout class. I also appreciate that the class routines change monthly. It gives you enough time to become familiar with the movements, build confidence, and progressively increase weights before transitioning into something new. The studio itself is extremely clean, and they provide everything you need, including mats, weights, blocks, and bands. I especially appreciate that it's not a heated studio and that instructors are intentional about the room environment by adjusting fans, temperature, and lighting so classes stay comfortable and focused. Another thing I've appreciated is how responsive the studio has been to member demand and that they genuinely care about their members. In the few months I've been attending, they've continued adding class times and formats, including convenient 5:45 AM and 5:45 PM options that fit well into a work schedule.

They offer a student discount which is also a nice benefit! I've been consistently taking barre3 classes for about 6 months and I know I have gotten stronger. It's rare to have a strength class that is focused on lifting weights where the whole class is in sync with the instructor. I also love the signature classes which are more traditional barre. Other barre studios rely on traditional ballet position names, but barre3 is much more accessible in my opinion. The instructors are all wonderful, but I especially love taking classes with Meghan! The studio provides all of the equipment you need, including sweat towels and mats. In a world where the heated studio is taking over, it's nice to have a traditional studio format. The main reason I attend this studio is because they offer a 5:45 am class four days a week. The only thing I would change is that it would be nice to have a mindful flow (yoga focused) class offered later on a week day. Your first class is free, so you have nothing to lose by checking it out!!

This is by far my favorite workout ever and after four years of KC living, I keep coming back for…read moremore! Bar Method is a high intensity, low impact class that makes you sweat and shake during class and makes you so sore the next day. The whole concept revolves around contracting your muscle to the point of exhaustion (hello shakes!) and then stretching and lengthening your warm muscles immediately after. Bar method was designed and vetted by physical therapists - and the studio floor is the same as a gymnast floor - so it is awesome for folks with joint issues of any age! The structure of the class is always the same - warm up includes an upper body workout with weights, followed by push ups and tricep dips. Do not let the light weights fool you- the exercises and reps make 2 and 3 lb weights feel like 20's! Next comes the meat and potatoes of Bar - LEGS AND BOOTY! Calf raises, 3 grueling sets of Thigh and a next-day-waddle-worthy booty workout. Stretches at the bar and in the floor are incorporated throughout. Finally, Abs and a little back dancing (channel your inner Call On Me music video)... Oh the instructors are ALL amazing, encouraging and each have their own way of empowering you to push through your sets even though you want to stop. The classes are personalized since the instructors know your name and call out corrections and encouragements throughout the class. They are also hands on to ensure you are in the best form possible! Music sets are also awesome and are constantly changing for fun varieties! Overall, in case you can't tell, I am a fan of Bar Method and encourage everyone to at least try it out once! It might look like you are barely moving but I promise it is a HARD workout! The method strengthens your posture, creates longer leaner muscles and improves flexibility! No dance experience required by the way - I am not a graceful or flexible person but I love how strong I feel when I leave class (and how sore my body feels too)! Come on in and shake it out!!!

Going into this studio for the first time, I had no idea what to expect. I don't keep up with the…read moreseemingly endless workout styles out there, and having never been graceful, like ballet dancers, this wouldn't have even made it on my list. Over the years, I've tried pilates, Insanity, yoga, and random YouTube dance videos; and only yoga seems to stick, although the results I get with yoga are more mental than anything. With Bar Method, I started seeing quick results. Basically you are doing small movements that fine-tune specific muscles, followed by intense stretches to give you an overall leaner look. The exercises are safe for everyone. What have I got to lose? Plus they ran a birthday special the day I came, so I decided to commit to 1 month. Initially, it was challenging to follow the structured routine - I was doing the plank wrong, or I slouched too much, or a slew of other reasons. Fear not, the instructors take the time to learn your name and will instruct or come around to adjust you. In a 60-minute class, you get to target your arms, shoulders, thighs, legs, glutes, back, abs...so basically you will be sore the next day. No doubt about it! My jello-y triceps scream at me every time. Truth be told, halfway through, I want to give up and crawl into a ball. But I keep pushing, because everyone else is working hard. The instructors are well-rehearsed in the routines. They are exceptionally toned and charismatic. After taking 8 classes, I can honestly see some definition in my arms and legs. Here we get to the catch, because up until now, life's peachy! For someone like myself who just switched careers, starting out fresh, this is not something I have the budget to continue after my month is up. There are many positives though for people who can afford it, so I encourage you to seek this out for great results!

Once we were able to attend classes again, I was very impressed by their dedication to keeping their clients staying safe and feeling that they were in the right hands. I have been attending classes - a few of which are free! They have 2-3 classes a week that are free to introduce you to the studio and to the art of yoga! Following their social media and keeping in touch with the studio will help you figure out when these classes happen. One of my favorite classes that this studio has to offer is "sculpt." They incorporate weights into a traditional yoga setting. This turns the class into s a full-body workout. As a male, there are times where I may not "fit in" to yoga and fitness classes, but here I felt welcome. I feel that this is a workout that other males may also benefit from. They have sessions throughout the entire day. Be sure to check the schedule and plan ahead of time as spaces fill up.

This is a difficult review for me to write, as I LOVED barre and some of the instructors here…read more Barre would've helped me achieve my fitness goals and I would've been a life long member. The workouts were intense and pretty easy to modify to a difficulty level that is suited for you. Some of the instructors were lovely. Jill was my absolute favorite and probably one of the sweetest souls I've ever met. Kelsi was a close second. She has such an upbeat personality that made me want to try harder. Here is the hard part: This was the first experience with this type of fitness, and I had a very awkward "first" day. I walked in late to my very first class. I expected someone to be at the front desk to discuss rescheduling. I didn't know that there wouldn't be anyone there. The owner was teaching the class that day and came out to talk to me. She seemed a little frustrated, which was understandable. I was told I couldn't go in because the class had started, which I completely understood. But, I thought I would spend a few minutes to watch a class to see what I was getting myself in to, but the owner came back out to ask me if I needed something else. It was obvious I wasn't suppose to hang out in the lobby and I left. Once I finally got in, I was disappointed. The class atmosphere and just overall "welcome" feeling I would expect with higher price tag, was lacking. It was very cliquey and those ladies didn't talk to anyone outside of their group. There was "that one" group in every single class I attended. It's not the studios fault, but being a new member, it made me feel like I was in high school. Occasionally, there would be one or two nice ladies who helped me get the necessary tools my first few classes, but that was rare. My friend was super turned off by this during her trial class and decided not to join. I don't mind sitting by myself, but it is something to consider if you're used to a friendly gym. One other issue was the attitude of the owner. My schedule varies greatly from day to day and this was explained in detail to the owner. It was decided that the class pack would be the best option for me. I was concerned about the expiration date of the class pack but was re-assured that the expiration could be extended due to my hectic work schedule conflicts. She honored it when I needed it but it with great hesitation. I tried to go to every single class possible so I didn't abuse her generosity. At first, I thought she had RBF, but by the end of my pack, I definitely felt like she didn't like me. She corrected my position forcefully with almost with an irritated tone, then immediately switched into the nice, energetic tone when she got on the microphone. It was also the same when I would make conversation with her in the lobby. I want to give her the benefit of the doubt, because we started off on the wrong foot. But it was hard to do, as she never really smiled at me and would just look at me very irritated when I had questions after class. It made me feel like I didn't belong. The way I explain this place to people who are interested is, if you were in a sorority, you would love this place. If Jill or Kelsi taught elsewhere, I would sign up in heartbeat.

By far one of my favorite studio style workouts I have ever tried. It gives me the opportunity to take some time for myself, forget about all of their worries of my day and disconnect from the world. And the community at this location is even more amazing. From the instructors to the amazing women working out, you will always feel welcome and supported no matter what walk of life you're at. I could say a million wonderful things about this place, but I say you just try it yourself!
