Once I completed that, I wanted to maintain my cardio program, and joined the Henry Mayo Fitness and Health Center. I really like this place, for several reasons. I can actually get free memberships at several local gyms through my insurance, but I'd rather pay to go here. It's a more mature crowd, with most people either doing some sort of rehab or physical fitness. It's not a social club or hang out, everyone is serious about what they're doing. I don't have much experience in gyms, but from what I see, they have plenty of cardio machines (treadmills, crossfits, arm ergos, upright and reclining bikes) as well as weight stations with both plate weights and resistance. There are free weights as well and all kinds of support stuff like mats, stretch bands, etc. The place is spotless, with constant cleaning going on, and everyone seems to take the time to wipe their stations down after use. I don't use these areas, but they have beautiful locker rooms, showers, basketball courts and a pool that is half indoor/half outdoor. The staff is friendly and helpful, and available for personal training if you desire. They have tons of classes from spin to balance. Downstairs, there is an advanced weight training room. I go three times a week and always look forward to it. I highly recommend you check them out.

They had a big container of drinks on ice. I asked this lady in the blue dress if I could grab one of the 8 ounce Costco bottles of water and the look she gave me was like I asked her for her first born. seriously as a member of over four years and paying $95 a month the attitude I got for asking for an 8 ounce bottle of water. I didn't ask for the sandwich, I didn't ask for the bag of chips. Her stuck up ignorant attitude almost makes me wanna quit this gym-but luckily you have employees like Jennifer who will make up for this rude lady

The truth is, keeping up at 51 has been a challenge. Up until about three months ago, I was fighting what I call the 'dad bod life'--adding a few pounds here and there, year after year. It's been almost three months since I joined a mind, body, and soul program, and I've started to feel a real sense of community, or a culture if you will, created by the founder, Jason. Just last week, I found myself with walking pneumonia, and I was laid out for a couple of days--I mean, laid out. After looking into B12 shots, liquid IVs, and cryo chambers, I sent Jason a message and asked, 'Does the infrared sauna really work? I'm feeling pretty drained and need a quick solution.' Since my family and I are members (my wife, my 12-year-old son, and me--don't ask me to repeat my age again, lol), he said, 'I'll put you down for an appointment and give you a quick intro.' The rest is history. After two sessions, and just two days later, I was feeling a lot more like myself. Now, this was after already consulting with western medicine--seeing a doctor and taking medication. The infrared sauna helped me regain my strength in just two days. I found myself looking at my wife, saying, 'Can you believe this?' The point is, the infrared sauna doesn't just help flush out impurities--it also brings back your energy. But more importantly, I'm so grateful to Jason for allowing our family to be part of this community! If you're reading this, I highly recommend you get off the couch and message Jason ASAP!"

They're knowledgeable, keep things safe, and still push you to get the most out of the workout. Jessica is super kind, encouraging, and actually remembers people, which you don't see everywhere. She creates a really comfortable, welcoming environment and explains things in a way that makes you feel confident. Robert's classes are always waitlisted and it makes sense. He challenges you without overdoing it and keeps workouts creative, especially with the reformer. Sarah is great too, very positive energy, especially in the mornings. I just wish I could take more of her classes. Walter is also really knowledgeable and just very solid overall. Shoutout to the front desk and management team. Gail, the general manager, is amazing and has been so supportive of my fitness journey. She really makes people feel seen and comfortable. Roberto, the assistant manager, always checks in and remembers details, which makes the gym feel more personal. Dustin is also super helpful anytime I've needed anything. Mark, who I did a trial personal training session with, was really nice and encouraging and made it a great first experience. The smoothie spot inside is also really good, which is a nice bonus. Overall, it's just a really solid gym with people who care. Makes it easy to keep showing up.

Policies are applied inconsistently, and even management appears unsure of the club's own rules. Equipment is outdated and poorly maintained, yet instead of fixing or replacing worn machines, management has made questionable decisions--like removing spaces members actually use and enjoy. Communication is poor, customer concerns are dismissed, and service quality has clearly declined under current management. For a gym that charges monthly fees, the experience does not match expectations. Until management improves, equipment is upgraded, and member feedback is taken seriously, this location is hard to recommend.

I recently tried a few other gyms, and while they were okay, they just didn't compare to Afterburn. At first, the membership price might seem like a lot, but once you compare the pricing to other gyms and what's included with Afterburn it feels worth it. Keep an eye out because they do have specials for new clients often! ;) And if you know someone who already comes to Afterburn, you can do a "friend referral" that can help you both. ;) The trainers here are incredible. They push you to become stronger while also encouraging you every step of the way, literally! On the days when I want to give up, they're the ones reminding me that I can do hard things. As someone who started out overweight and out of shape, I can honestly say I've never once felt judged. The trainers create such a positive environment, and the members are just as welcoming and supportive. One thing I really appreciate is that the classes never feel overcrowded. Unlike other gyms where you're packed in like sardines, there's plenty of space to work out comfortably. What really makes Afterburn different is the community they've built. They don't just focus on workouts--they focus on their people. From holiday events and team challenges to themed workouts and brunch workouts, they create opportunities for everyone to connect, have fun, and make lasting memories. It feels like you can build friendships here. I also love the new sauna and cold plunge. I use them regularly, and they're always clean, well-maintained, and never overcrowded. If you're overweight or you're just trying to get back on track, don't let the financial fear hold you back. The trainers will help you build healthier habits without breaking your budget. I realized that by cutting back on fast food and making better choices, I was actually saving money--enough to help cover my membership. That's an investment that pays you back in your health. If you're on the fence, I highly recommend taking advantage of the 3-day trial. Walk through the doors, give it a chance, and see what it's all about. By the end of the year, you'll be glad you started. Afterburn won't change your life for you--but if you're willing to show up and let them help you, I truly believe they can help you build a stronger, healthier, and happier version of yourself. The hardest part is taking that first step.

Machines need repair sometimes, it happens, that's gym life. I'm there four days a week and never saw a cable machine down for six months, and there are several to pick from anyway. Yeah, the pec machine seat needing to be propped up for months is very annoying, but there is another pec machine, and several other ways to work pec muscles, so not sure what the deal is. So mention it to management and move on. Dirtier now? I see vacuuming and mopping going on throughout the day. If you want it spotless, wipe down the machines yourself after you use them (which most people don't), that's on you too, not just staff. Paper towels have always been there when I needed them, never seen them run out. Does it happen from time to time? Probably, but they have three areas on the second floor to get paper towels and spray bottles, and they're not all out at the same time. Can't speak to the showers, but the men's locker room sink area gets the same so-so attention it always did under Gold's. Nothing's changed there, so not sure why that's suddenly a new thing EoS brought in. It does get busy and sometimes you wait for a machine, welcome to literally every gym in every city. That's not a flaw, that's just what a popular gym looks like. But aside from a broken machine or two (which they have other machines you can use anyway), the real problem stopping people from working out is people camping out on a machine, scrolling on their phone for five to ten minutes while others wait. You're there to work out. Work out, then move on.

I wanted to write about it as I feel its good for people to know the kinds of people they may be learning from. While I was there I noticed he kept singling out this one guy and kept giving him a hard time, the guy eventually stopped going. It got uncomfortable to watch at one point. Personally I think Pedro's too immature to be training people, even if he is a black belt. The other coaches tho were the saving grace. I think their names were Alex and Skye? Anyway if they still train there, ask for them. If it wasn't for them I would've given up on learning BJJ cause environment is everything and if someone is giving someone else a hard time for no reason its kinda unpleasant for a guy like me. I gave it two stars cause it had some redeemable qualities. I'll give it 5 stars if I ever hear they canned that clown.
