What would have been a simple flat tire fix became complicated because I only have a tire inflation kit VS a "real" spare tire. Now what? The driver said his solution would be to tow us to Town Fair Tire to see if they could fix a side wall tire blow out and sadly Town Fair could not. As I understand it, no one can fix a side wall tire blow out. Town Fair was closing by then but the driver volunteered to stay late at his garage to replace our destroyed tire with a new tire we bought at Town Fair. And he did, balanced it , checked if the tire pressure display was working and we drove off costing less than I imagined! I was impressed how calm and unhurried this driver was so late in the day.

Reading other reviews online, you can easily see that Jack has a reputation of being a really honest, trustworthy mechanic, and based on my experience, it is well deserved. I've brought my car here twice, and have always been treated well. The prices have also been very reasonable. The only thing preventing me from giving them 4 or 5 stars is that it takes a long time for them to fix your car/diagnose problems. They do have bigger shop that they send cars out to for major repairs in Bloomfield, but they have such a small staff that it still takes a long time. They have a large volume of customers due to their good reputation, but you'll need to give them a day or two of advance notice before bringing it in to get looked at, and unless you can get someone to drive you around, you'll need to bring it back for another day or two for the actual repairs. It's not a bad location for waiting around if you have to because it's in Bishop's Corner. You can do grocery shopping, go out to eat, grab a coffee, or even go clothes shopping at Marshall's. :) The other thing preventing 4 or 5 stars is that sometimes they forget to call you to tell you the problem(s) they found, and also whether or not your car will be ready for you at the time you initially specified. I've come twice to get my car, and they had to call the Bloomfield shop to remind them to come drive it back to West Hartford so that I could have my car back. Overall, they do their best with a small workforce, and do good, honest work. To me that is worth the long waits!

*DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND $10K IN REPAIRS*…read moreMy wife and I were going to the store when our 18' Toyota Tacoma stopped working, so we called AAA to tow our vehicle to the nearest shop which was unfortunately, South Green Automotive. They told us our alternator was dead, so they replaced it. Charged us a good amount of money which we thought was a little bit on the expensive side but they gave us a warranty so we had that to fall back on. At least that's what we thought... Not even six months later, and our alternator failed again which led us to think that maybe they had a defective alternator so we called back to see if we can get into the warranty that they promised us, and basically had to beg them to honor their warranty, which seemed very sketchy and just unprofessional for me. They charged us the parts plus the labor cost when a lot of shops waive the labor because of the warranty and only have the customer pay the parts. Unfortunately, this was not one of the shops. Not even three months later, and the car failed again so I decided to take matters into my own hands and change the alternator and the battery so that way they wouldn't be any failure of the charging system with both parts being brand new. That only lasted for about 2 to 3 weeks, so after being fed up with this issue, I decided to take it to the Toyota dealership which told me that the alternator connector was severed, the pins were damaged and misaligned which caused the alternator to fail. Two years, Four alternators, three batteries and $10,000 later I am now hoping that my car will be fixed tomorrow so I can finally drive it. It is a shame that AAA allows for these kind of shops to continue providing service without any sort of checks or balances, because something as simple as a connector could've been inspected and repaired. Then again, Toyota mentioned that they have only seen BAD MECHANICS sever connectors and wires. There's a reason this place less than 50 reviews.

I did not want to report this to my insurance company to have my rates increase for an accident I did not cause. The first quote I got from a local shop in West Hartford was for $2,000 to fix the repairs (keep in mind the book value of the car is $3500) After telling the second shop that I really only wanted the bare bones done to make the car functional as I was going to pay out of pocket and planning to give it to my daughter who is turning 16 this year, they quoted me $3000 to get the car "functional." I then took it to T&J where they quoted me $890! Thats a huge difference! They were willing to work with me, listened to what I was looking for and offered GREAT service. They were able to find used parts which saved me money which the other shops didnt seem willing to do. I dropped the car off in the morning and they had a shuttle to bring me to and from work, and they were EARLY and waiting for me to pick me up from my office after work! My car looks much better and is now safe for the road thanks to the team at T & J Auto. It is family owned and operated as well which is really nice. It is a rarity to find an honest, customer service oriented team in the auto repair work field in my experience and these guys delivered.
