We usually come here for breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday morning. It amazes me that it can be completely packed but they seat you and wait on you so fast! We've never had to wait long. Food is always consistent. They have fried cheese grits that are out of this world amazing, you just don't find that around here. Big open restaurant with lots of seating options! We were in the area for the weekend. My nephew lives in Yakima & suggested this place for breakfast before we headed out to return home. Parking lot was packed but fortunately a space opened up not far from the door. We all walk with canes and all the handicap spots were taken. People were waiting but my nephew got there early & already had a table. The people waiting were two larger parties but they got seated pretty quickly too. Our party ordered the French Toast breakfast, the Muffin Breakfast with a delicious cranberry orange muffin filled with plenty of cranberries, a burger & fries that was perfectly cooked, and I ordered the Salmon from the Senior/Small Plate menu. Expected it to be pre-cooked & dried out but it was tender, moist & perfectly cooked! Decent tartar sauce & a baked potato (at 11am!) with butter & sour cream. I chose cabbage with bacon for my veggie side & it was sooo good & buttery! Three of us took cinnamon rolls home, which were pretty good. Service was good, friendly & knowledgeable. I ordered a 16 oz medium rare prime rib that looked like they pulled well done chunks out of the garbage and they didn't include one of the two side. It was a to-go order, so I wasn't able to get my order fixed, It was inedible, I threw it away and wasted my money. Very disappointed with the terrible food. read more

Absolutely Dangerous - Avoid at All Costs Come here if you want to risk your life with what's on your plate. I ordered the Omelet with Grilled Cheese Grits, and while eating the grits, I suddenly felt something sharp in my mouth. I pulled out a 1-inch long glass chip with sharp edges. If I had swallowed it, I could've ended up in the ER--or worse. I went back to the restaurant to report this serious safety hazard and request compensation. Shockingly, the manager refused to offer cash compensation, only credit coupon for their restaurant. Why would I ever return to a place that almost injured me? I told them clearly: I won't be coming back, and I don't want a coupon from a restaurant that can't ensure basic food safety. End up with leaving my number to them, I want the owner's explanation for this situation. This was not a minor issue--this was a life-threatening oversight. Sadly I don't even know whether I already swallowed some glass chips before i found this one. The lack of accountability is just as disturbing as the glass in my food. The server was great. However the gravy on the biscuits and gravy was horrible! And it has been for years. I think it's flour and milk mixed together with a fraction of pepper sprinkled on it. It would have to improve dramatically just to be bland. I was hoping my GF would say something to the server & the cashier but she doesn't like to do that. Ate there twice, great home cooked food. Casual family diner with great service. We got there about 1/2 hour before closing and they never rushed us but were happy to serve us. From the minute we walked in the front door we were treated like long lost family by our server Amber. Watching her work with other customers was nice, She is so personable and obviously like family to regulars. I can see why. We will be back. We had a very yummy breakfast here the other day! They have an extensive menu, from breakfast item to sandwiches, and apparently prime rib dinners on certain days of the week. Something for everyone. You can tell the clientele is a bit older at this diner, but the service is friendly, they have a lot of seating, and the food seems solid. I ordered the Ham and Swiss crepes with Hollandaise sauce, which were delicious! I would order them again. For $3 extra you can add in 2 eggs, 2 bacon strips, and 2 sausages, which is a wonderful price for these things, especially considering they all tasted super fresh and were good sized. My friend ordered the Sweet Potato pancakes, which I tried and thought were quite good. They taste a bit like cinnamon and had a good amount of sweetness to them - not over the top. read more

The hashbrowns always come out white and half cooked. The one time I sent them back, they came back over cooked and half of them missing. This time I simply lived with half cooked hash browns. The ingredients for the "stuffed" hash browns presented as being heated in a microwave as they were chewy and like warm by the time I got them. The country gravy was measured out like I was asking for liquid gold. The gravy was also bland and tepid. The eggs were under the gravy and one was over easy and one was over hard. I ordered two over easy eggs. The CFS appeared to be a frozen variety that is deep fried. Before someone says "We make everything fresh" then tell me, as a former professional cook, the food presented, and tasted, like frozen and canned products? The point of this review is that I am making the owners of the Powerhouse aware they have a well run front of the house. It is your kitchen staff, and those in charge back there, that are your problem. I will not be back to the Powegouse to eat. I can get a clean restaurant and friendly staff, and sub par food at McDonald's much cheaper. read more

Food and pricing were really good, and at first our waiter was attentive.... Even though he sat us near people and it felt kinda too close for comfort..there was a whole other half of the restaurant that was empty and everyone was sat really close together... Then we got our food and about halfway thru eating he comes and asks if we wanted dessert...um I'm not done eating yet so I told him I didn't know because well ...we weren't finished. Then about 5 minutes later he drops the check again getting that rushed feeling.. and does the whole "if I don't see u guys again" speech like he was in a hurry to finish his tables. I am a server and I think if he had timed everything a bit better as in watching the plates and body language of the customer it would've been better. So that's why the 3 star rating. When you see 5 stars Do not think this is a place you would wear an evening gown or tuxedo too. I give this place five stars because of the variety that they offer (like liver and onions, oysters a full liquor bar and other unusual options). This is one of those places that looks like a Denny's acts like a Denny's but has an extensive menu that they pull off very well. Being it was Friday night, there special was the prime rib. Both my wife and I ordered it. She the 8oz and I the 12oz. When it came out, ok, it looked decent enough. How bad was it? While it was medium rare, the provided steak knife couldn't cut thru the steak. It was ripping and tearing thru it. Thankfully I ALWAYS carry a sharp pocketkife with me. As I dived into it, I knew I was in for disappointment. The flavor was almost none existant and the provided au jus was just as weak. One side of the prime rib even had its silverskin on it! No wonder the seasoning didn't make it to the flesh. Lastly, it wasn't just a dull steak knife. This prime rib cut like a chuck roast. I was surprised because typically large portions equal mediocre food in many places. That is not true here. The hollandaise sauce was on par with the best, which is hard to find! This place is the equivalent of IHOP with the menu choices and atmosphere. The teenage waitress did a decent job checking on drinks but didn't know how to set down the entree dishes, didn't clean the dirty dishes, and talked way too loudly. That was probably because the place was 90% full of senior citizens and she hadn't seen someone under age 55 in a long time. While I was eating my salad, she brought the entrees to us then stared at me while I moved my plate vs. just setting down the entree. She also asked if I wanted the salad and roll that came with my meal - yes, I'm paying for it so give it to me. I got the halibut fish and chips. The halibut was surprisingly good for where I was - my expectations weren't that high. The fries were meh, so was the side dish of squash and overcooked baby carrots. The side salad was fine and the roll was too. My friend got the French dip sandwich with wedge fries. She enjoyed it. She picked this place as it was somewhere she had gone to for a long time. She told me it's the only place on this side of Yakima that's not fast food besides Red Lobster so there you go. We overheard the manager tell the table next to us that the prime rib they ordered - that night's special - wasn't available in the temp they wanted unless they wanted to wait an hour so they ordered something else.
