I'm in town for 2 days on business and arrived a little after 6 pm. I asked the girl at the Comfort Suites for a good restaurant near by and she suggested the Powerhouse Grill. I say thanks, as it turned out I had a great dinner. The place was packed and a funny aside, I'm 67 and had to laugh because other than the family of 5 across the dining room with 3 small kids, I was one of the younger one's in the room. I love that! I had the BBQ'd chicken special and it was really very good. It came with a fully loaded baked potato, cabbage, a salad, and a freshly baked roll at a very reasonable price (about $16.00). I also had a glass of a local red wine (sorry, I can't remember the name or the vineyard) that was wonderful for only $6.00! Even though they were super busy the service was surprisingly fast and my waitress was attentive and delightful. I was dining alone and she stopped by to check up on me a few times and was genuinely friendly. All in all, a great experience and a wonderful meal. I like fine dining and upscale restaurants. This isn't one of those. It's a cozy comfortable clean and casual place and the food is like home fixings and reminded me of the great meals Mom made when we were growing up. I'll be back! read more

I made the mistake of ordering the crepes here. I don't like cream cheese, and that's the only filling that they had for them, so I didn't get it. I also tend not to like artificial compotes, so I left that off, too. The crepes wound up being absolutely pathetic; tiny and flat, without even any whipped cream on top. They were gummy and flavorless. They reminded me of crepes in a package I've seen for sale at the grocery store. I wonder if they're even made in-house. The bacon and eggs were okay, and the English muffin was buttery, crispy, and delicious. It was a busy morning, but they had plenty of staff, and the service was fast and friendly. Not only do I have to sing about the amazing carrot cake that Powerhouse bakes in house but the food was good! Based on the Yelp reviews, I was expecting Denny's or ihop. I was pleasantly surprised to feel like I was at a mom and pop diner. We met up with family that lives in E Wa at the powerhouse. There was a variety of orders from the six of us, from breakfast to dinner items - all well prepared with everyone commenting on how good their food was (including grandma who is very hard to please). The most amazing surprise came at the end when I ordered a piece of carrot cake to go (prior to that everyone said they could not fit dessert in). Once they saw my giant slice of carrot cake, everyone had to have a piece to take home. Oh my goodness this is the type of cake that you write home about! We live about 2 hours from Yakima but consistently stop at Powerhouse Grill for lunch when we're in the area. All of our previous experiences have been great. The restaurant is clean and the service is very good, and our food has always been fresh and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, the food today was an exception. We ordered the spicy jalapeño burger with fries. To begin, the fries were so overcooked that they were very hard and crisp. The burgers were dry and there was no sign of jalapeños. The fries were replaced, but the burgers were too dry to eat more than a few bites. We'll be going back to Yakima in a few weeks. Because of previous experiences we will try Powerhouse Grill one more time. I'm truly hoping that today was an aberration. read more

Powerhouse grill is one of those places where you can always go to get an above average meal that you don't expect to be anything more than average. He used to be a Perkins and with in the last decade has become a more local version of Perkins. They serve the standard diner type fair and they do a good job at it. We tend to go here for breakfast and it's nice as one of the only places that is open at 6 AM. The seating situation is a large number of booths and tables, all of which will accommodate you and three or more of your closest friends. The waiters and waitresses here are always very friendly and many of them seem like the type that have been doing this for a long time, which is nice for a place that feels like a big diner. Overall it's a good spot to come grab breakfast or another meal with the buddies, and certainly a place that your grandparents would like. read more

The Powerhouse Grill was always our go to when we lived in Yakima. Visiting after being gone 7 years, we ate there and it was truly apparent that there has been changes and not in a good way. The food was barely mediocre and the service wasn't the best either. We had breakfast and it was far from great. Overcooked omelettes, undercooked sausage (raw) and strawberry crepes with cheap syrup all over it. Our waitress went on break in the middle of our meal and we never saw another one. The place was quite busy at noon, so I wondered if the food would take awhile and how the service would be. The waitress did not seem frazzled at all by the crowd, and took our order with professionalism and kindness. The taco salads we ordered (not normally on the menu, a special) were very delicious and only took about 10 minutes. Not only that, but my order was a modification of the special -- I asked if instead of ground beef they could put the fajita salad in the shell. They agreed without question and didn't even charge extra. There were MASSIVE cakes in the front! If I wasn't on a diet I would have had to have a piece of that... it looked like a six layer chocolate cake. I'm kind of regretting having not tried it. They had a lot of good deserts in the front in general. So yeah, I'd recommend if you're looking for substance instead of dazzle. Or a really huge piece of cake. read more

Server gave me my check then went on break. After that, I was invisible. That was halfway through my meal. No more refills for me. No "Would you like a to-go box?" After a short wait we were seated in a crowded dining area. Decent seating. Meal: we both got the chicken fried steak and loaded hash brown. Food was flavorful, moderately proportioned and service seemed overwhelmed but friendly. Only drinking water I was empty a few times so I marked a star for parchment. I would have left with 4 stars but I must say they are pretty proud of their Coors light bottles cause my fiancé paid $5 for one, so there was another star. Will I go back? We decided to go after not being here for a while. Their food is tasty and worth the price. Although this visit was marred by their service. While waiting for our order to arrive, I opened my rolled up napkin that holds the silverware. I noticed that the spoon had dried food on it. Once I had the waitresses' attention, I told her that she should let the dishwasher know about it. She looked at the spoon, took it, mumbled that it was on the Hostess to notice that kind of thing. She walked off without any further comment. After finishing up our meal, we asked for a to go box. I ordered the "Mini Corndogs" with a side of fries for my younger brother and a side of "Garlic Parmesan Fries" for the both of us if we were still hungry. We were intrigued by the big cakes and pies in the glass case as you enter, they were HUGE! Our food arrived to the table. My younger brother starts to enjoy his meal, he says his corn dogs are cold, so i feel them and they are room temperature and not warm or anything! The fries as well! I offered some of my food from my plate and our fries we ordered also. Again, he says the mozzarella sticks are cold! thats 3 out of 8 items that are cold, THAT WE JUST HAD DELIVERED TO THE TABLE, the only items that were "Warm" were the Zucchini chips! Everything else was either room temperature or still cold! The Zucchini chips, mozzarella sticks, mini corn dogs and Calamari all tasted like they were cooked in the same pot of grease at the same time! Service was terrible! Never once were we asked if the food was "okay" or "good" we were not checked on after the food was delivered, we left more than half of our food on the plate and paid. We were not asked if we "enjoyed" our meal or anything! Even after leaving a lot of food on the plates! Even at 11 on a Sunday morning, they can still accommodate a group of 9 within 10 minutes. I like that. I also like that they give you a whole carafe of coffee and water for the table. I also like how the waitress asked me if I was a 'big eater' and then directed me to the 'Senior and Lighter Fare' menu when I said I wasn't. I got basically the same breakfast, except in only-partially-disgusting portions (that equals 2 pancakes, one egg, one bacon, and one sausage, in case you're wondering) for only $6. Everyone else I was with had awesome breakfasts also. Eggs benedict, french toast, omelets, polish sausage, and chicken fried steak all graced the table, and I would have been happy to eat all of it. I also would have been happy to eat any or all of the desserts in the case, but sadly my senior citizen appetite didn't leave room. Oh boy. This is just a Sharis or Denny's with a different name. When we walked in and tuna casserole was on special- we should have known. Slowwwww service. And then there was the food-- so awful. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and sweet potato fries. If there were 10 fries on my plate I would be surprised. The burger was way over cooked. To even make it edible I had to cover it in ranch to be able to swallow it. Hard as a hockey puck. My husband ordered corn beef hash, he will literally eat this anywhere and said that it was awful. With our two little ones with us- they each got a kids meal, I wish I could have gotten a kids meal! They included sides and a huge cookie for $5.50.
