Powerhouse West Bloomfield does seem to be the best gym in our area. It's very clean. They have a pool. Lots of machines in a wide variety of choices including 2 NuSteps. Lots of space. If you've never been inside, it's deceptively small looking from outside the building and hugely spacious inside. They offer a lot of classes. Way too many tv's. Be prepared for noise and bring your own sound canceling earphones if that's an issue for you. It's a BIG gym. It has decent accessibility. The few changing rooms offered are BIG and have benches and grab bars which are really helpful if you've got accessibility challenges that make dressing difficult. The pool entrance has ladders, entrance steps, and a seat that can lower you into the pool. The women's only workout room is upstairs, just warning you, and there's no way to get there aside from walking up a flight of stairs, so I haven't seen it. What I don't like: The 3-lane pool feels small and most often has 5+ people in it even when I go between noon & 2pm, their slowest time of the day. I'm not sure the lanes are actually normal length or shorter, or maybe I'm just thrown off because the lanes are narrower than other lap pools I've used (I can't normally touch the lane dividers with both hands while swimming elementary backstroke, for example, but I do at this pool) and the pool is shallow - you can touch everywhere. This makes it great for people who can't swim because they can walk. But with all the pool walkers and the narrow lanes, it's hard to really lap swim because lane sharing is extra challenging, and there's nowhere deep enough to tread water. WEIRD bathrooms! The toilet stalls are made of frosted glass. I'm not sure if they designed that way to match the shower stalls or to discourage people from changing in bathroom stalls, but... there's not as much privacy as any other public bathroom I've ever seen. You can see which stalls are full/empty at a glance and whether the person in the stall is leaning forward to wipe, sitting, or standing. It's also quite a walk to get from the workout area to the bathrooms, which are back by the pool. They don't list their prices anywhere, and the way they always have some special deal going that's about to end soon just seems like a weird sales ploy. You can't find out the price without giving your info. Even if you go in person and ask, they have this whole song and dance where they list a higher price and cross it off and give you this "special limited time offer." I originally went to signup due to an advertised rate of $25/month for college students with ID, which I saw advertised on Facebook, but was told there was no such rate when I arrived in person. I kind of get the feeling that they pay their sales team on commission based on how high of a rate they can talk the customer into paying each month. Plus there's also a signup fee and an annual fee in addition to the monthly fee. I'm ok with all of that, I just wish they wouldn't deceptively advertise, and that they were more up front with their pricing. The sales team is uhh... thorough? Excellent at followup? They WILL call and email frequently but they stopped as soon as I asked them to - so be upfront with them! I do wish the guest passes for the higher membership could be used by guests without them scheduling the visit and having to wait for someone from sales to talk to them before and after each visit. Also, the sign in the building says guests should be new one-time visitors, but a salesperson told me over the phone that you can have the same guest come use all 4 guest passes as long as they fill out the paperwork with every visit. Not sure which is accurate, but I felt a little embarrassed to be told one thing and show up and see otherwise. read more

I've been a member since 2019 and just canceled mostly due to lack of communication and transparency. They sent an email to me in February 2024 stating "As we strive to provide you with the best facilities, equipment, and services, we occasionally need to adjust our rates. We are writing to inform you about a modest increase in our annual membership fee. Beginning March there will be a $10 increase to your annual fee. Your monthly dues will remain the same and will not be increased." Which was false-- my monthly membership increased by 6.95%. At a glance, that amount was not noticeable, like a tick sucking my blood. Then I was out of town not using my gym service for several months to come to find out it was put on hold and my membership was further increased by another 10.42%. So from my agreed membership fee at the time of contract signing, I'm paying more in annual 'maintenance' fees AND 16.67% more in monthly fees and not getting any more value out of the gym so I'm cutting my loss here. The thing I have the most gripe about is that it feels like it was done under my nose because 99% of the emails I receive from Powerhouse Gym are spam about sweepstakes and the Powerhouse App. If you still insist on making this your gym, carefully read your contract as it does state that they will increase your gym memberships without your consent or notice. read more

They use weak tactics to get people in the door sending in emails and fb ads claiming "free" "no dues."You get in and it's false advertising at its finest! Manager sat on the phone laughing and denying this and saying she works closely with the marketing team and they never do this so she claims. Update to my review from when I first started at Powerhouse: Things I now love at Powerhouse. 1. The Yin Yoga classes on Tuesday night with Michelle and Thursday with Julia. These two yoga classes are amazing and I wish they'd even offer more Yin Yoga classes. 2. Butts and Gutts classes. Mostly I take these with Don. He's a great teacher. Old school and focused. The timing of his Monday and Thursday class work well into my schedule. I also have taken Amanda's class, which is great. The time doesn't usually work for me though. 3. The hydrobed. It's just such a nice way to end a workout. And I got the "basic" plus package for this and the towels. Things I don't like at Powerhouse. 1. The front desk staff is very nice and the sales staff typically are friendly to me as well. But, when I have brought friends as guests, that's where they fail. They are so so so pushy. Email, calls, texts, etc. They won't let up. A less pushy approach would be advised - and is much likely going to work better. 2. Still not in love with the spin studio. I find myself either riding solo on the bikes in the main floor or going to CycleBar when I want to spin. They just do it better, by a lot. It's mostly the ambience of the room and the acoustics and lighting. But also the style in which they teach. CycleBar just wins in every way. 3. Would be better if the wipe containers were kept full and if there were tissues accessible. Ideas: One idea I have is to have a trainer on staff maybe from 8am-9pm that is there to help show customers how to use equipment or to answer questions. For the most part I know how to use what I want. But sometimes I see something I'm not sure how to use and it would be amazing to have a person to ask. I feel like Lifetime has that ... but maybe I am wrong. Guest passes: where you can earn passes (where the person isn't a sales object). I may just want a friend to try the gym or to work out once or twice with me. Powerhouse gear: it would be a cool "reward" to earn points that can be spent toward a powerhouse tank or sweatshirt. Heck, it's free advertising for you. Run club? With spring coming, it could be fun to start a run club - with some outdoor runs that begin and end at the club, and maybe have stretch/strength classes for runners. Those are things that come to mind. Overall I'm impressed with the gym and I'm glad it's near my home. I'm happy to brainstorm further ways to improve things too. read more

(I get it's not your "policy" but spending $30 for a day, I'm positive you can give a towel that can be washed...) I have never experienced the level of desperation from gym salespeople like I did at this gym. After I expressed interest in joining, they generously gave me a free day pass and bottled water, and had a sit down meeting with me to discuss membership plans. This seemed nice at first. But then after my workout when I went to simply get my ID and leave, they instead called over their salesperson to give me a second round of convincing me to sign up right then and there. Don't let them trick you into joining on the spot with special deals or exceptions "just for you." These sales people are clearly trained with pre-planned scripts and tactics meant to create a false sense of urgency to maximize their own commission. But their pushy approach completely misses how off-putting it feels as a potential customer. During the meeting, they kept my ID so I couldn't easily leave without seeming rude. From the start, I clearly said I didn't want to sign up right away and needed time to think. But they kept circling back, pressuring me to give reasons why I wouldn't join immediately. I must have said "no" at least 5 times, but they kept asking "why?" and trying to convince me with questions like "Don't you want to work out every day here?" and "I just don't understand why you can't sign up now." After asking to leave multiple times, they said they would quickly grab a business card, but instead brought another manager for a third sales pitch. He point blank asked "What's wrong man, why aren't you going to join today?" At that point, I took my ID and left, completely off put by their overly aggressive techniques. read more

Nice gym but terrible visitor policy. Had friend from out of town try to go for 1 day workout. They live 2.5 hours away. $40 for day visit!!!! Insane. Been going here for 3 years and obviously no passes were needed so I figured 1 day passes for members were allowed occasionally. NOPE. Had to take my friend to another place instead of showing him where I workout. What a joke. Tried to con me into a different plan that allows free visitor passes. Updated review post COVID. First they opened up illegally, months before gyms wre permitted. While they added some air purification system, they are not enforcing masks or making people clean up after themselves. Social distancing only exists in the cardio area, otherwise it's a free for all. Tons of sweaty people breathing heavy and touching each other playing basketball. Poeople sweating on equipment and not wiping it down, 70% of people not wearing a masks. Ridiculous. read more

For quite some time I noticed how the short,old lady with black hair talks to the kids in there in a hostile/ harsh manner.. not once but twice did she put my son WHO JUST TURNED TWO in time out for dumping the toys on the floor.... As I am walking in this wicked witch and the other older redhead lady had the nerve to tell me to have conversations at home with my toddler before bringing him??? While he is on the floor sobbing crying and she has her hands cross not even trying to comfort him.. A conversation to tell him to stop acting like a toddler... tf outta here!!They are terrible with the children and bitter older ladies !!!! The main issue was my son dumping the toys on the floor.... What toddler doesn't do that??? I'd give zero stars if I could. Would never recommend going to this gym. The gym might look nice, but trying to get out of a contract is like pulling teeth. I signed up initially for an 18 month contract, and then covid happened. Because they stopped my monthly payments over the course of the pandemic, it pushed my contract back at least 4-5 months. Which is definitely working in their favor because now I am paying a total of 3 yearly fees when I should have only been paying 2. Not to mention when we were in the middle of a pandemic I walked into the gym and everyone in the gym including employees had their masks off. If you're looking for a gym that just wants to capitalize off of you, rather than actually care about giving good customer support. This is the one for you. read more

Went to this gym about a year ago asking about a membership because they had a promotion for free for the season for 3 months, well turns out you still have to pay 300 dollars to sign up, so I told them after they tried and tried to get my wife and I to sign up that we were not interested. Ever since then I get phone calls from them about once or twice a month, and I tell them time after time I'm not interested but yet they still call. Just this morning got a call pick it up not knowing who it is, and someone there said "tell me what you're thinking" without even introducing themselves until I asked. Beware they are very annoying and will call you and whoever went to the gym to tour it with you from multiple different numbers, had to block a few. My friend recently joined Powerhouse Gym and I come with her on a friend pass sometimes so we can workout together. The facilities and location are amazing. The locker rooms are modern and spacious, there are a ton of machines and weights to suit anyone wanting to start or maintain their fitness. There are a lot of extra services like classes and childcare. What's disappointing is the sales pressure. I already have a gym membership elsewhere that I use on my off weeks without my friend. It doesn't stop them from texting, calling, and emailing me about signing up with Powerhouse even though I was clear from the beginning that I already had a membership elsewhere. I don't like sales pressure. I am changing jobs soon so I'm not sure how my friend and I will switch up our workout plans, and i don't want to have two memberships. read more

I ended up here, thinking it was the same Powerhouse Gym we visited two years ago, which is apparently now Orchard Fitness. I gave it a try since I was there. IMO, their name and logo are oxymorons. This is nothing more than a Globo gym very much akin to Planet Fitness where there are a ton of rules plastered across the wall on one of the biggest signs I've ever seen in a gym, all of which imply a serious contradiction to the heavy barbell that's bent in half and everything that is implied by the name "Powerhouse". This is not the place you go to lift heavy weights to get jacked and strong. They seriously need to change their name and logo, because it completely misrepresents who they are. It's cool if you want to be a fitness facility, but represent yourself as such if that's who you are. The logo and name imply a gym that is a heck of a lot more hardcore than what the reality is. The staff are also rude and downright insulting at times. They do not seem happy to be there, which I found to be even more of a turnoff. I'll give them credit for it being super clean, and a nice facility, but if you're a serious powerlifting, strongman, weightlifter or even a serious bodybuilder, this place will work in a pinch to get in a light, quiet, lift, but I would not recommend it as a long-term gym for any serious athlete. read more

I am SO happy that this gym is finally opened. It's right around the corner from my work so it's extremely convenient. Since I was part of the presale I was able to come for a tour a couple days before they officially opened. Well it's been two weeks since the pool was closed. I was told its going to be atleast a couple more weeks. I mainly got the membership to use the pool. So instead of comping anything we were told we can hoto the novi location. Im not going to drive 30 min out of my way. So right now im paying for a membership i cannot use. Terrible billing, rude employees, lacking equipment, unclean water damaged areas. I was charged an additional $50 to cancel a 1 month membership. Was told that cancellation was easy, but you actually need to give a 30 days notice. An employee rudely informed me that I would have had to cancel my membership immediately after I purchased it to avoid buying an additional month . The cheapest bare bones option for students was $44.99 a month. In areas like the power room, bench racks, and other manually weighted machines I was constantly searching for weights. After scavenging I was often times unable to complete workouts, because I could not find enough weights to exceed 225. The power room has had a water damaged area, which blocks access from the squat rack. A towel was placed over the area and has remained there since the start of my membership on June 15th. I don't recommend this gym. Just go to Planet Fitness. read more

Worst gym I've ever been to. Smells horrible, packed, no variety in workout machines, and only one basketball gym. The workers are clueless and not helpful at all. Worst gym ever!! Seems like this place will do anything they can to take your money from you. When signing up, you feel like you are at a used car dealership. They will use all kinds of tactics to make you get into a monthly plan. I ended up signing up for the "summer for free" deal that required a $150 downpayment which makes the summer for free part a complete lie. Just another one of their tactics to reel in college students that are home for the summer and take their money. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, two weeks after signing up, I had to go back to school for the summer, so I will no longer be able to use the gym. This has happened to me before when I was a member at LA Fitness. They were understanding and refunded me for the time that I won't be able to use the gym. Not this place. I spoke to Heather, the general manager, and tried to explain everything. The worst customer service I have ever received! I used the gym for less than two weeks and was happy to pay for the whole month. Heather informed me that there is no way for the $150 to be reimbursed. She also had the guts to tell me that I got a good deal since 10 1-day passes would have come out to over 200 dollars. I've been their customer for a couple of years now and will never be coming back! Save yourself some money and nerves and get a membership at LA Fitness. You can use all of their facilities for a cheaper price than using one Powerhouse facility. Plus, their customer service isn't garbage like it is here. Each Powerhouse is independently owned, so it makes total sense why they want to take your money so bad. Don't come here! You'll regret it! P.S. The equipment and other things are always down. The gym may look nice but it's actually really bad. During the two weeks of using the gym, I wasn't able to shower once because the showers were out of order. Typical. Very much to my disappointment, my experience with her was just like with everyone else at Powerhouse. Just like the salesmen I've dealt with, the lady emphasized how amazing of a deal I am getting. So here's what she "did for me." Here is how she "made things much better." She was kind enough to provide me with access to the gym until the end of the summer without getting hit with the annual fee. It's worth noting that the reason why I canceled the membership is the fact that I can't possibly use the gym because I relocated. So instead of having access to the gym I can't use for 30 days, I have now been blessed with access to the gym for 90 days! Just shows you what Powerhouse is like. They do not care about you. I lived right down the road from this gym but was unexpectedly transferred out of state for work before my contract was complete. Pretty disappointing when they make you pay a $180 opt out fee for a $35/mo membership. Yet my $119/mo membership with Body Language Fitness and Yoga didn't hold me to my contract understanding that obviously with a transfer and move I could no longer come and it was nothing about just wanting to quit on a whim. This is the difference between small ran businesses vs larger businesses like Power House. It's likely I'll be back in Michigan in a few years but I definitely will never return to this gym again! I do not know where to begin! This gym is everything you can think about when you think about a great space to strength train or do cardio. There is endless amounts of equipment and an awesome "Power Room" for deadlifts and squatting. Moreover, their is a small indoor track space where they keep two top notch prowlers. Near the track is also a space for functional training. The environment is nice as well! The staff keeps it cool and clean and, from my experience, the staff have been very kind. The sales associate, John, was so awesome! When he showed me around the gym, he was not pushy, like other sales associates can be. He let the gym "speak for itself." John also has continuously stayed in touch with me since I have become a member to ensure I am enjoying my gym experience each and everytime. ANYONE looking for a new gym, I HIGHLY recommend taking a tour of this gym and signing up with John. He is a really great guy! His direct line is 248-863-0803 Lastly, the smoothie bar, Juice It, is unbelievably delicious and healthy. The prices are awesome for the quantity and quality of the smoothies. I love the Java Jolt!
