Powers Farm & Brewery is a hidden gem that we found out about after skydiving at the local regional airport. The service was excellent, the staff was friendly, and the other guests (mostly regulars) made for great company! Powers only serves beer, but they do have a food truck rotation that comes through, so make sure to check their website before visiting to find out what's being served that day. The beer selection is decent and has something for everyone's taste. There is plenty of indoor seating and just as much outdoor seating, so you won't have to worry about standing up the whole time even when it's busy. Outside they have a Corn Hole setup and they also had a soccer ball you could kick around if you wanted to. To add to the outdoor ambiance, there was also a chicken coop that you could walk up to and look at. Also, if you're around during the evening, they might get the bonfires going! One of favorite parts about our visit was being able to enjoy my porter outside by the bonfire. All-in-all, it was a pleasant surprise and definitely worth a visit if you're ever out in Midland, VA or just won't to do something outside the city if you're in the DMV area. read more

REAL TALK: I happened to be at Powers Farm & Brewery due to wanting to try out a food truck that was making an appearance here. However, this place rocks! Powers have their own farm in which they grown their own produce and hops, and they have a brewery on site, featuring their small batches. The grounds are so spacious, beautiful, and there are plenty of picnic tables and chairs around pits for groups. You can definitely have gatherings and special events hosted here! Oh, and did I say that they have chickens roaming around? YES YES YES! So cute. We ran into one of the owners, Kevin, and he was super friendly and welcoming - and, I mean he-was-super-kind-and-unbelievably-genuine-and-amazingly-kind-what-an-awesome-human-being kind of way! What a gem! Great venue, great seating, laid back, mostly quiet and calming, and awesome beer! This is a true Farm Brewery, they use local ingredients to the fullest Exeter possible and incorporate a lot of what they grow on their own property. You can see the hops on the vines and the chicken coops underneath. Plots are sectioned off and behind ropes but you can aimlessly wander through the tamale slice of heaven. The beers are thoughtful and flavorful; simple ingredients and some unique, used in a complex way really help to ensure each taste is meaningful. The Lemongrass Pilsner and Midlander Lager were perfect examples of brewing to style with enough expertise to make their recipe their own and shine in new and different way. I would highly recommend this brewery to anyone looking to explore the Virginia countryside and drive down a dusty road to a perfectly green oasis with enough of a variety of beers to please any palette along with those harder to please "beer geek" tastebuds. A hidden gem! We found this place while looking for somewhere stop on a car trip. We certainly got lucky! Dog-friendly craft beer haven off the beaten path. The farm atmosphere is relaxing, and there was a food truck for a late lunch. You can check their Instagram for food truck schedules. We ordered a couple flights so we could try as many of their beers as possible - one of the best saisons ever! If you're familiar with North Carolina beers, the flavors and vibe are similar to Fonta Flora (esp at Whippoorwill Farm). The next time we head this way, we'll definitely be back. read more

Great beer! Usually when we go to local brewery I like 1 or 2 of the beers and here I liked most! We tried the lemongrass beer (didn't like as much as I thought i would) the Hibiscus (yum) the Cloud IPA (favorite), the Belgian (yum), kumbocha (yum) and the sweet potato stout (meh). This is the vision of Kevin Powers who is a native of Canton/Akron Ohio who has found his niche in the growing of hops & barley on the local farm and the brewing of some fine craft beers. My friend Jim B and I have been talking about stopping in for several weeks since they opened so we made it on this Thursday evening. The gravel parking lot was packed, there was a Mercedes SUV, a Lexus SUV, a Chevy Colorado, a 69 VW bug an Audi Q5, a few Fords and several other imports...the parking lot was packed...really? On a Thursday evening? Well it is the heart of summer and well...we do get thirsty..and we do like I craft beers don't we? An interesting cross section of rural Fauquier County on this warm summer evening The vibe here is very local and family oriented. There are outside picnic tables with corn hole and several acres of farm land planted with everything from heirloom tomatoes to hops, barley, corn and wild flowers. You can even get some fresh duck eggs! A nice rural change of pace from what you might find in Prince William County. Very relaxed and easy with the locals coming and going like this place has been here forever. I tried the Blackberry Saison which was exceptional, the most recent brew that was not even on the menu board. Then I went with the Homeland Spelt which was quite delicious. My friend David and I popped in on a Friday evening to try out Powers Farm & Brewery for the first time. We met Kevin and and Melody - the owners. Super nice folks. We both ordered a full tasting flight (7 Ales in total): Lemongrass Pils (5.0% ABV) Passion Flower Saison (5.1% ABV) Sooner Pale Ale (6.1% ABV) Black IPA (5.9% ABV) Lemon Balm Wit (5.3% ABV) Spelt Bier De Garde (7.5% ABV) Session IPA (5.3% ABV) Some really good beers here - as well as a few misses. Whenever we visit a new craft brewery - we try to taste everything - even if it is a style that we'd not normally order a pint. In this case - I found that the Lemongrass Pils, the Passionflower Saison, the Lemon Balm Wit, and the Spelt Bier De Garde - are the styles I typically don't drink - but these were all well executed from a style perspective - very tasty, very drinkable beers - in short, they were very good. I felt like the Sooner Pale Ale and Black IPA fell kind of flat. We had a fun discussion with Kevin - the beer maker about this. The Pale Ale was their first attempt - so I am guessing that their will be changes and improvements to these brews. The Black IPA - needed more hops. And a better name than "Black IPA." The Session IPA was a little better - but not one of my favorites. The brewery has just opened, nice space, very nice people. Nice out of the way brewery that serves an assortment of beers made with ingredients grown on the farm. I'm not talking about hops - think blueberries, elderberries, lemongrass - you name it. Don't knock it until you've tried it! They are only the second place in Virginia I know does this (Back Road being the other). The tap room isn't fancy, but it didn't matter as nearly everybody wanted to sit outdoors anyway and bask in the nice weather and scenery. My server was friendly and knowledgeable (I think she's one of the owners), and brought me up to speed on their philosophy of making their beer as 'home grown' as possible. They were home brewers for 10 years, and farmers for even longer. Powers is a home brewery, taken to the next level! What I tried: Lemongrass Pilsner: Yep, definitely a lemongrass flavor to it. Pretty good Blackberry Pilsner: Peach colored, strong blackberry notes. Bier Spelt: Brand of beer I'm not familiar with. Good, but different. Achilles Yarrow Porter: Favorite of the bunch. This is an amazing place! It's worth the extra few minutes off the highway to go here. We stopped here after a weekend camping and hiking and it was perfect. It helped that the weather was glorious, but they have great beer with a wide selection, and food trucks rotate. When we were there, it was a taco truck. Lots of room to roam around. Great vibe and even better beer. Let me start by saying that a good place is nothing without good people. Our server, Tiffany, was awesome and made us feel right at home on our first visit. She gave us great suggestions and dealt with the July heat and humidity with a smile. Even thought she was wearing a mask, we could still tell she was smiling and made us feel that they genuinely appreciated we were there. Their variety of beers is great and everyone can find something they like. In the summer, my wife and I enjoy a lighter beer and they have FOUR on tap. And every one of them was good. I also tried an IPA and found it to be one of the best I have tried in a long time. I guess using clean, local, organic ingredients really does offer a great foundation for better taste. While service was limited to outdoors due to the viral restrictions, they did a great job of making it as low key as possible while making sure tables were 20+ feet apart. Without going into detail, I will just say that their system of ordering and dealing with distance was great. I suppose the farm setting offered a level of coziness and comfort that can only be found "on the farm". There was a food truck on premises and they even had a guy selling pickles with about 20 different flavors. I dare you to find that elsewhere! This is a working farm so there are various crops, flowers, chickens, etc. making this a very relaxing, family-friendly environment. There is plenty of room for the kiddos to kick around and we saw several on-leash dogs. There was even a water bowl for your furry friends. We really enjoyed Powers Farm and Brewery and will definitely be coming back and recommending it to our friends. Highly recommended! read more

Powers Farm & Brewery is a total gem! The beers are great (my personal favorites are the Passionfruit Saison and Lemongrass Pils), and for the summer, they have super refreshing brews. Looking forward to trying each new beer they release. The farmhouse/brewhouse space is open, light, and airy with a long bar and ample seating. The outside space is even better, with picnic tables, corn hole, and tons of farmland. The property is super kid and dog friendly, too! This is a true farm brewery. We stopped in to finally give Powers Farm & Brewery a look see. We grabbed a flight of everything they had to offer and took a table in the corner. They had food, mostly German fare, too bad I wasn't yet hungry, I adore German food. It seems like their beers rotate pretty frequently as their website list completely different beer from what we tried. Of the beers we tried 6 were hits and 2 fell short. The tasting room has bar seating and maybe 7 tables, quaint. The location is a little off the beaten path but worth your time. Bar tender and other patrons were all very friendly. read more

Really great idea and i love the location. Unique brews (lemongrass pils, coffee ale, etc). This place will be gorgeous in the fall- not much shade in the summer, though. Hard to drink beer in a hot, sunny field. So, I went with a group of 15 people. Most of us purchased a flight and there was really nothing that tasted better than bottled beer you buy at the grocery store. The one beer that everyone agreed tasted good was the Belgian Blonde Ale. Otherwise the only two tolerable beers were the Lemongrass Pilsner and the Elderflower Kolsch. I usually tend to like very dark beers so I thought I'd love the Achilles Yarrow Porter but it lacked in flavor and boldness. The reason I gave this place 2 stars is because it's a great place to host a party or even just chill with friends but if it weren't completely rude, I'd say bring your own beer. Unfortunately, I didn't get to check out the farm flowers so I can't say anything about that. The inside and outside areas are super nice. There's actually a fire pit outside. They did have BBQ for sale from a local catering company, but I didn't try it since I'm attempting to stay away from meat products, but those who ate it said it was pretty good. read more

Just to start off - I'm not a big brewery person. I've been to only one in the past. However, driving by today we decided to stop in. What a treat!! They currently have only 6 beers, but provide a really nice flight of all 6, along with a sheet detailing each one. It was love at the first sip for my husband and I. I loved the lightest the best, him the darkest. And in between, only the IPA we didn't like. We had so much fun trying the various beers and definitely want to go back, relax and have a couple of glasses of the ones we really liked. Plus they had fresh yellow watermelon on hand that was as good as the beer. read more
