Everyday after his work got progressively worse till he finally exploded and started swearing about the job being too big. We took a break for a month and asked him to come back and inspect his work and fix the poor work and finish the rest of the job, he cancelled 15 minutes before the walk through. Threaten to file a lien if we did not pay him in full including the unfinished work. You would be making a huge mistake to hire him. I am happy to send the crazy text message exchange more photos of the terrible work. He sued in small claims court and got another 1500 dollars. Needless to say the $8,000 job will now cost $13,000 after the $5500 we paid him including the judgement which the split between our different perspectives. I don't exactly remember how, but thank god he was there. He oversaw the entire repair process, from planning, help negotiating with the insurance, monitoring the process and making sure everything is fixed at the end. Everything is spot-on. If it wasn't for Nebiye L. Legesse, I am pretty sure I would still have to deal with the repair long after I moved. I have moved around the country a few times and have dealt with home builders and contractors for new home builds and general works around the house. Nebiye L. Legesse from Seagon has been the best I have encountered. I am very grateful with his service and would recommend him for anyone. He will definitely be my first choice if I ever moved back to WA for any work.

His team would have done a 'lipstick on a pig' kind of job, and not identify the root cause of the water seeping issue and fixing the rot that I had for my home. It was the subcontractor's insistence of quality and correct work that saved me from the incompetence of Seagon. Seagon made attempts to cut corners, and not do a diligent , logical , correct, thoughtful and thorough work . Even after I paid a premium amount, quality workmanship and the attention to details were subpar. I paid $7500 for Seagon's work, and have attached the pictures of sloppy the paint work done by the rookie painter Nebiye and the unfinished work. The team was jovial, punctual, efficient, professional, and rather fun to have around for the week of the repair. The result is excellent. Replaced the entire roof, added new ridge vent, replaced/enhanced the fascia all around, and put in 9 new 3" diameter downspouts. Highly recommended.

A few days later he called back not with an estimate but to say he "was interested" in doing the work, so now he would have to come back and take some measurements to actually estimate. Second time came out, took measurements, realized initial hacky solution wouldn't work and left again, with no call back heard from agent he was not interested in the job. This is not how you do customer service. You are busy, you don't want to do the work, fine, but don't leave a customer hanging, and don't take multiple trips wasting customer's time to come to this conclusion.

Ken really worked hard to find a good solution at a reasonable cost, and in fact he was able to unblock the project really quickly by proposing a hidden beam that would maintain the aesthetics of the original plan. Ken also took on several smaller projects for us which it would have been hard to get a contractor for alone, but he was able to slot them in around the main project in a way that made sense for all of us. It's a family operated business which is nice. All our communications were with Ken or Jennifer directly -- no corporate office giving you the run-around like you might find with some larger contracting organizations.

I'm not in a trade, but my dad was so I grew up around it. You wonder if they're going to do a solid job, if they are going to find 'more' issues to tack on to the bill and finally what they are going to charge and if it's competitive and reasonable. Anyone who's gotten multiple bids will quickly learn that bids from different contractors can come back wildly different and it's hard to gauge why unless you are in the business or know and trust the contractor (or whoever recommended them). Rest assured and from my experience, HBC General Contractors are top notch all around. It's my understanding they recently went through an ownership change in the Spring/summer of 2017, and see some of the reviews here are a bit older, so if anyone is concerned about that, don't be. The new crew - Ken and company are fantastic. We had an issue with dry-rot below our back sliding door. We had just purchased the house months earlier, so didn't know how long the issue had been there or how severe the rot was. We also had an ant issue, and know now that it was due to the rot issue, so it was really important to me that we got this taken care of prior to rainy season again. We had a couple contractors come out for bids. What set HBC apart for me was how on top of it they were on communicating, genuinely felt honesty about pricing and breaking down how they arrived at it (including instructing me to buy the door myself so I'd save money), and the degree of care they took in doing the job itself. I know there was no corners cut, because I worked from home the day they came over, and Ken called me over a few times to show me the progress and how/what they were doing to prevent it from happening in the future. They took out the old door, dug out and fixed all dry rotted areas (which went deeper, I saw, than expected), hung new fancier sliding door and sealed it up so good (this to me was above/beyond) I feel very confident I'll never have the same issue at that spot again. My job was relatively small compared to other very large projects that they do (they showed me pics), but I was never made to feel like I was less important or a 'side' thing for them. They do good work and stand by it…read more A couple of years after having the roof replace a small leak was noticed, we believe from the skylight flashing. I called them to report the problem. Within a couple of hours they had someone at my house tarping off the questionable section. Sure enough that night we had a wind/rain storm. My attic was dry the next morning. Later that week they came out and replaced flashing, replaced the damaged plywood under the roof, and re-reroofed the damaged section. He even replaced the 25 year old skylight, for just the price of buying the skylight at Home Depot. These guys stand behind their roofs. It's nice knowing that if there's a problem, they've got you covered. Would use them again if I need a roof.

Gopher Construction was hired to do the side sewer on my project through my General Contractor…read more During the process, they ran into an issue with a sink hole in the city street.... and I incurred additional costs. They also had a problem with the boring and ended up opening up a hole in the street twice the size as original projected. When I went to the site to check on things, Mark told me not to worry, and how I would get a lot of money back from the city and had me rush down to put in a claim. Months after, he still had not followed up with the city and the city closed the claim. About 10 months after the job was done, I emailed and asked him the status. Mark replied that he his unable to get money from the city and that he tried. I contacted the city who informed me that no attempt was made.
