On Monday, March 1st , I called PR Partners in Mclean Virginia to see if I could get a haircut that day. I have been going to the PR Mclean location for about a year and a half, and usually I get my hair cut with Nana, who does a fantastic job. That morning, Nana was unavailable and they suggested that I go with John for my haircut. I have(had) medium long to long brown hair that is wavy to curly when I don't blow dry it, but blows out straight with volume and straightens really easily. I hadn't received a haircut in about 3 months, so the ends were a bit scraggily. I told John that I wanted a cut that could include a little bit of layering if he thought it was best (he's the $50.00 per haircut professional, right?), but that under no circumstances should he remove more than 2 inches at the very most from any single strand of hair on my head. He said ok, and started cutting away. About three quarters through the cut, I realized the top layers were getting pretty short. I mentioned this to John and he swore it was in my imagination, and that the longest piece he had taken off was 1.5 inches. By the end of the cut, my hair was layered, and nothing long about them. The top, shorter layers are easily 6 inches shorter than the longer layers, and on each side of my head there are about 15 strands of hair that are 1 inch longer than the next shortest layer. The layers don't follow any pattern or add any style - they simply make my ends look thin, split, and more unhealthy than when I went in for the haircut in the first place. On top of that, the whole thing is noticeably uneven. The left side's jaggy shard-like ends are about 1 inch longer than their right side counterparts. Finally, the front pieces are so short they fall out of ponytails. My hair hasn't been short enough to fall out of ponytails since about the 7th grade. I think I look like a cocker spaniel (with shaggy ears!) My boyfriend agrees, but says I still am a nice cocker spaniel. My mom says it looks like I tried to give myself layers drunk, and that it is plain uneven with no style. Immediately following the cut, I wrote a much shorter "Don't go to John! He cuts hair shorter than you ask" review on yelp. The next day, I received the following message on yelp: "Dear Emily, I am sorry to hear about your experience. Of course we want to put this right for you, as you have been to other stylists would you consider one of them reviewing your cut and working with you to create a shape that will work while your hair grows out? Please let me know at your convenience. Best wishes, Natasha" I was out of the country and did not respond. Two days later, I got a notice from Yelp telling me that my review had been taken down because "we do not allow reviews that do not appear to reflect a unique, first-hand experience with a particular business at a specific location". I have heard that Yelp takes down negative reviews for paid advertisers, and I am certain that the PR at Partners in Mclean, Virginia is one of these paid advertisers. Before, I was a slightly miffed cocker spaniel-haired girl. Now, I will never go to PR or trust yelp again. And I bet this review will be taken down within 48 hours. read more

I decided to make an appointment with Julie after reading the online reviews. I'm not picky at all and this is a my honest observation. I only made this appointment here after relying on the yelp reviews. 1. I completed the form the salon provided and Julie did not discuss anything with me regarding my hair or ways I can make it better. I've been at this salon before but different location and the stylist was super nice and discussed everything. This shouldn't be a huge expectation. it's called customer service and the whole point of the form. 2. She was not friendly at all. I wasn't sure if she was having a bad day but she didn't make any conversation or even smiled! The only thing she asked was how much length and how I wanted styled. Very cold. That's about it. Nothing else! 3. She only curled few strands of my hair and I have thick hair. She didn't put 100% effort into her work. 4. The shampoo lady was super nice and offered water and kept asking if the temp/pressure was okay. 5. As for the haircut alone, it was okay. She could've spend more time styling it. OVERALL - I will not return to this stylist again. She did not speak to me at all or even introduced herself probably. She didn't ask much or say much. I was expecting more feedback. I had my haircut here for the first time in several years in June. No wait, friendly staff, but very weird, bad haircut. The stylist who did my hair didn't really listen to what I wanted and cut big, chunky layers into my relatively short, fine hair. It didn't look great even after he styled it, and it grew out even worse. Great haircut. I had Bebe who was moved from Tysons to McLean (and i followed). She's cut my hair real good and have been able to hide away my alfalfa sprout in the back of my head. The 3 stars is because of price. I can't afford to fork out 50 bucks for a men's haircut every 2 weeks. I've been cancelling the appointments because i just don't have the money. If they made it 35 bucks I'd be there every 2 weeks! Seriously, would they want 70 or 50 bucks every 4 weeks? If they lowered their price, we'd all win. I first went to this location and my hair chopped off for donation by Nana (who is no longer working with them, as she is a stay at home Mom). She spent well over 2 hours cutting my hair since it was extremely long and thick. Near the end of my haircut, Richard came in to saved the day and added the funky, sexy look I was aiming for. Next time I went to him and he gave me a super cute short haircut with bangs, that NO salonist previous to him would agree would work for me. He said it wasn't my hair that was the problem, it was the skills of the stylist. He was right :) I'm very happy with him and he's not afraid to be adventurist when you'd like him to be. I've been coming to the same stylist here for some time now, and have always been very, very happy with the stylist and cut. During my very first cut, I was surprised at how much time my stylist spent doing just a consultation. And what she delivered that day, as well as in future cuts, was absolutely beautiful. The salon does lack a lot of what other salons focus on to create a positive customer experience. If there are more than 2-3 people waiting you have to stand, hair seems to stay on the floor for way too long before being swept up (and the only place to put your purse seems to be on the floor on top of the hair), and I don't know if I've ever been offered a beverage. But, for a good cut at only $55, I let that stuff go. However, my most recent appointment really changed that. After cutting my hair (amazing job, as always) my stylist had some young girl blow dry my hair. That kind of bothered me. The blow dry, in my opinion, is part of the style and part of what I'm paying for. I've been to a lot of really expensive salons as well as not so expensive ones, and whether paying $30 or $150 for a cut, I've never had a stylist pass on the blow dry to someone who barely knows what they are doing. The stylist used that time to get a head start on the next client who looked to be getting highlights. I don't know how much time is reserved for a cut, but the only reasons we would have been over time would be either because the stylist was 5-10 minutes late to the start of our cut or the fact that we had to wait about five minutes for a hair wash station to open up. So, that rubbed me the wrong way, but to top it all off, the only free space for this young girl to blow dry my hair was downstairs in the basement. Sure, there were stations kind of set up down there but it appeared dirty, not nice, and it was REALLY REALLY hot. Is that how you treat a customer? I will not be going back. I've heard of plenty of other salons that charge about the same but provide a much better customer experience. Frankly, I'd recommend this salon for Tabatha's salon takeover show. There's some great talent here, but boy, does the salon itself need some help. read more

I have been lucky my whole life in terms of my hair because I have awesome hair and my mother was a hair stylist for 30 years, and she was the only one who ever gave me a hair cut. She recently moved to Florida and I have had anxiety trying to find a good stylist that wouldn't mess up my look (anyone who has a bomb hair style knows this). I went to Sarah at PR Partners off of a referral and she is awesome. She cuts it perfectly, how I want it, and is a riot to be around. This is a true neighborhood place; the staff is very stable and has lots of long-time customers like me (almost 15 years). Products are top quality, stylists are all highly skilled. I scheduled an appointment on June 29th for a haircut and balyage on July 5th. I just went into the salon for my appointment and was told that it was scheduled for a week later. This is not true. I know that my appointment was scheduled for today considering I had to leave work early. I have an event this weekend and am now left with hair that isn't done. I am extremely disappointed with the quality of customer service. The receptionist was unapologetic for their mistake. I will not return to this salon considering the quality of customer service I have received. I could not imagine what they would do to my hair if they can't even handle scheduling appointments. I went to her to get a simple balayage and told her I didn't want an ombré, she said she could do it and reassured me she knew the difference..yeah no. She pretty much dumped bleach on my hair and left me sitting with my eyes burning for a good 15 minutes not even bothering to check on me (which may not seem long, but I assure you it is!) and lo and behold it was blow dried to look exactly like an ombré...seriously??? I told her I didn't like it at all and was not what I had envisioned; and she looked at me like it was my fault....okay honey, you did the hair... I filled out a consult form, which in hindsight was a COMPLETE waste. She didn't even bother to read it. She was rude and cold to me too, just like the other reviewer mentioned...I pretty much got the feeling that unless you were Asian or a close friend or something she couldn't give less of a damn. I went to another salon after wasting so much money on her novice skills and just went darker after all that bleach she effing put in it. Please save yourself some heartache and go elsewhere. Plenty of other stylists a) know how to actually do hair b) don't leave you sitting there in silence with your eyes burning while she confirms her Starbucks order c) are actually polite. My wife and I both go here to see Eleanor, who always does a great job with our hair. All the stylists and staff at the salon are friendly and remember your name, which is really nice. The only complaints are that sometimes you have to make your appointment weeks in advance and that some evenings the small parking lot is full so you have to park on the street. This review is for Julie, a natural talent with cut and color! First, the Mclean location is great, I followed her from Tysons. The space is so open. It is very relaxing and calming; something that is so necessary especially if you get nervous to get your hair done. Then, Julie always comes up to greet me and make me feel at home/at ease immediately! She is so down to earth and friendly, which makes the experience that much better. So I get my hair done with Julie about every 6 weeks for about 7 years now, to update my hair to the current look. I naturally have dark brown/black hair and she has done every color from shades of red to purple to brown and applied it in every technique from ombre to a subtler balayage to highlights to peekaboos! No color has every appeared tacky or flat. My color always has dimension and richness when she creates it. As for cut she is equally as amazing. My most recent cut has been taking off about 7-10 inches of my hair for the first time in my life giving me a lob (long bob), which I absolutely love!!! After she is done cutting she styles my hair with either blowout, curling, or straightening. Because of her, I know how to do all of these styles myself at home. She always gives tips on styling and recommends treatments and products to keep my hair healthy and beautiful. Sometimes I have a difficult time deciding what to do, but I need not worry because Julie always knows the latest styles and trends! I have gone to her with ideas, without a clue what to do, and I always leave looking and feeling fabulous; which is a true testament to her talent. Prices are a bit high in my opinion (i.e. I'm a guy that doesn't know what it costs to cut, color and massage or whatever your hair) but she seems happy and looks great when she comes home. I do have to drop them by one star because one (out of the many times) she went, a stylist screwed up her hair completely. To be fair, when she freaked out and called back after a few days demanding to speak to the owner they didn't let her talk to him but did make an opening for him to see her in person. He cut her hair and fixed the problem. She was thrilled with the new cut by the owner and still goes regularly. I've been coming here for almost a year now and I'm very happy with my haircuts each time. The hair stylist I go to (John) is *very* intense about hair. You can tell that hair is his passion. Sometimes, it's a little hard not to laugh when he takes a haircut so seriously, but I'm always pleased with the results. I've never had to recut my hair on my own because of uneven cuts, etc. So why didn't I give this place a 5? Two things: First, a haircut here once took an hour and a half. Granted, it was one of the best cuts of my life, but an hour and a half is a little excessive. Second, the salon only accepts cash for its tips. If you pay with a credit or debit card, they are unable to add on more money on the card for a tip. Not only do I find this perplexing, but I also find this very lame. His blow-outs are amazing, I have extremely long hair and he made my hair look like VS model. He was on point with my ombre. Not only did I get a same-day appointment at PR at Partners in Mclean, Va, I got a great cut and friendly service. When i first walked in I was happy to see tons of magazines with haircut pics (I can never figure out what I want to get) and quickly sat in their small-ish waiting area to leaf through the pages. In no time I was escorted back to the shampoo area for a great massage and then talked with Sarah, my hairdresser. Most people I know have had a regular stylist of some sort at some point in their life. I never have, and would generally float around, trying different places and stylists. That is, before I met Sarah. Sarah is amazing- I've been seeing her for about 2 years now and I'll never let anyone else touch my hair! I like to change my color and cut quite frequently, and sometimes drastically. And no matter what I've wanted, Sarah's delivered. And on top of the gorgeous color and cut that I always walk out with, my hair is incredibly healthy and soft. She's also super friendly, so I felt comfortable in her chair from my very first visit. Now, I live in New York City, and I'd still rather hold out for Sarah to get my hair cut and dyed. Luckily for me, she comes up here quite frequently for training classes, and I'm sometimes able to see her then. Other times, I'm in the DC area, and she always finds a way to fit me in. The best part is that her cuts are so good that even when I go much longer than I normally would in between them, they STILL look great! I've actually gotten several compliments when my hair was in this state. I highly reccommend Sarah- she really does it all, and I have yet to find a look or hair type she's not good at. I've brought several of my friends to her, and all I ever hear is how much they love her. I trust her completely, and for me, that's saying a lot.
