I brought my two kids here for back to school cuts. The place immediately struck me as quite outdated. They were a bit pushy and aggressive. They charged me for a full blowout for one kid when she only got it cut and wanted to leave it completely wet. I questioned them on it and they just said it's the same no matter what. I also asked To put Tip on the credit card but she was already running it, so she did a separate transaction for the tip by charging my card and handing me the cash (she decided to not even give me the full amount she charged on the card when I did the math later!!!) Pretty sure that is a business No-no to charge the tip and hand over cash. We will not be back. The cuts were absolutely nothing special and nothing more than I could have done at home with my own pair of kitchen scissors after learning a basic "Covid cut" during the pandemic. read more

My sister recommended Salon Michel and couldn't sing its praises enough. After moving out to DC I decided to give it a whirl. I was a little wary about finding a super fabulous hip cut in McLean (sorry, sorry, I'm fully anti-VA) and I should have trusted my instincts. I had my hair cut by Michel, who you would expect to be the best person at the salon. He's one of those guys that is obviously very full of himself, speaks with a ridiculous accent, and talks about your hair like it has it's own personality. Kind of like Jonathan Antin from Blowout, but not nearly as hot/cool/badass. Just lame. I liked the size and feel of the salon, but that was about it. They had some highschoolers as receptionists who were utterly worthless and I waited quite a long time for my appointment. My cut was pretty bad, I felt like I had a mullet because the ends were so super thin. When I got my hair cut again my new stylist asked who the hell had put this "shelf" in my hair. Not a good look. The blowdry is usually my favorite part of getting my hair cut but I immediately put it in a ponytail when I left the salon. He had given me what I think of as Texan hair: reeeeeal big on top, flips out at the end, and a whole lot of hairspray. Not a good look. My sister always had good experiences with Salon Michel, but I will never be back. read more

Thanks*** After months of searching for the right Salon, and being constantly disappointed. I had a friend recommend Salon Michel. I'm the type of guy who cares about his hair and will not settle for some barber shop. I look forward to the shampooing, as well as the time the stylist takes to make recommendations and listen to what I'm looking for. I can't stand assembly lines, that get you in and out as fast as they can. So I make an appointment with Salon Michel, and right off the bat, the phone conversation was great. The location was very easy to find. I didn't realize this but they had moved the Salon right down the street. I didn't get a chance to see the old Salon, but their new Salon was amazing. It had a very inviting atmosphere. As soon as I walk in, I'm greeted, and they ask me if I would like anything to drink. (Coffee, tea, Soda, water, etc.) I also found out that they offer free wifi while you wait. This was nice as I sat down and enjoy a nice cup of tea, while checking my email. They take me back to get my hair shampooed and I'm not sure what her name was, but she did a great job! Come to find out the shampoo they used was chemical free, and natural. I never really thought about this until I asked what they were using. You could definitely tell the difference. They finish up and take me to the chair. I'm greeted by Michel himself, this guy was amazing. He asked me what I wanted, what I was going for, and made some recommendations. I went for it. Long story short, Michel took care of me. At last I finally found someone who knew how to get it right! I never felt rushed, he took his time and overall I was completely satisfied. I found out that Michel has been doing this for a long time, with a great story behind it. He started cutting hair at a Salon, saved his money up and started his own Salon with his wife. He is hard working and he puts his heart into it. This is reflected by all of his employees who also make sure their clients are treated like royalty. Overall if you're looking for a Salon that will take care of you from the moment you make the appointment to the moment you leave, this is the place. I definitely plan to continue going here, and highly recommend anyone else who looking for something new to try Salon Michel! read more

I love Salon Michel, and here's why: 1. They take care of me. When I come in, they'll get me coffee or tea or wine, and make sure I'm comfortable. It's beautifully decorated and they make me feel at home. Everyone is friendly and fun. The receptionists are lovely to work with. I worked at a very nice salon, as a receptionist, many years ago, and I know it can be a tough job meeting the requests (demands) of people in a hair crisis. (That's not even funny. Hair crises ARE serious business)! 2. I've been seeing Zizi for about a year and a half now. We've been through multiple incarnations of my hair color in that time, lol, and she's done a great job with each one. Her skill with a pair of scissors is incredible. I've never gotten such great volume from a cut before. I walk out feeling like a million bucks. Last night, after she did my color, cut, and blowout, I went to a networking event and so many people commented on my hair, and (I'm not ashamed to admit) it was a smashing feeling. 3. Zizi also tints my eyebrows and eyelashes, and then I get them waxed by Young. Young also did a fabulous job on my daughter's eyebrows, which helped her enormously, because she had some issues with them. When I brought my mother. Young was able to give her more of an arch and a neater look, in just seconds. I can't tell you how long my mother bewailed her eyebrow shape before that! 4. They take care of my whole family. Zizi did my husband's hair last month and it looked better than I've ever seen it. She is very good at working on men's hair, and pays close attention to things like cowlicks to make sure the cut works with what's actually going on on their head. 5. I've never had a problem getting an appointment I needed, even on short notice. Zizi will bend over backward to fit me or my family in. 6. It's only 7 minutes from my house! 7 minutes! (Perspective, I drove to Charlottesville for ten years to see my stylist there. During that time, I lived in Centreville, VA, Pittsburgh, PA, and Harrisonburg, PA. I see that many people are happy with this salon and that's nice, but I am not one of them. I brought a photo of the haircut I previously had, but what I ended up with was entirely different and not what I wanted at all. There was no point in complaining, because they cut it so short that correcting it was not an option. I'll never go back. It's also very expensive, which would be OK if one got the result that one wanted. read more

I have been going to see Michel religiously every 6-8 weeks for over 2 years now. I tried him after a recommendation from a friend, and have never been happier with my hair. He does exactly what I want - and even when he tries something a little different, I always love it. Better yet, he looks at the client's sense of personal style and lifestyle and cuts your hair accordingly - he really gets that I want my hair to be "pretty" but still "slightly fashion forward." The atmosphere is fantastic, the staff is warm, funny and sweet. They use and sell great hair products that are chemical free. I went to Salon Michel after learning of them at an event for breast cancer. My usual salon was always booked and was becoming frustrating so i decided to give it a try. I was slated with Zizi for color and she was amazing. It was the first time my hair did not seem orange-y and my hair has felt healthier since she started coloring. I completely trust her and her abilities and she never makes me cut my hair if I don't want to :). I would reccomend Zizi to anyone especially those that are interested in going lighter in color. I work in McLean and decided to buy a gift certificate for my girlfriend for hair services. My girlfriend absolutely loved the services and continues to use product that she gets exclusively from the salon. I decided to stop by their location during her visit there to say hi. I was impressed by the attention to detail given to the the salon facility itself; It was spotless and extrmely well thought out in its design and decor. I sat on a big comfy counch and munched on snacks while I waited for my girlfriend to finish up. She looked beautiful when she was finished with her hair and makeup and she hasn't stopped talking about the experience since. As a boyfirend, for a girlfriend, I would highly recommend salon michel and plan on buying another gift certificate in the future. read more

They literally saved my wedding. I was referred by a friend a month before my wedding. The person who was supposed to do our hair backed out at the last minute. I called and they immediately scheduled me for a consultation. By the time I left the consultation, I knew this was the shop but, when they did my full trial, I was stunned at how beautiful they made me look. Zizi did an amazing job with my crazy curly hair and my Matrons of Honor. A younger woman made my Jr. bridesmaids not only look gorgeous but, they had a blast with her doing their hair. Was going to a big party and the place that was supposed to do my makeup cancelled at the last minute. In a panic I called Salon Michel and they found a way to squeeze me in. Even though I was a last minute appointment, Jennifer took her time and did an amazing job. She took time to study my face and ask about the type of party and my preferences. Jane even got in the act and helped with my hair to make sure everything was perfect. Everyone was so nice. They even followed up with an email to see how everything went. Zizi is the best. The only cons is that I live far now and can't go often. But the service is always devine.

I love this place!!!! The entire staff is very knowledgeable. I have my hair done by Kaitilin but she no longer works there.... so I have my hair done by Michel. They understood that I am very skeptical and afraid to have my hair more damaged that is already is (because a previous hair dresser didn't do a good job). My hair have a tendency to go to the orange side of the blond (which I dislike very much) but since I have been doing my hair over there I have the exactly shade of blond I desire! read more

I am a longtime customer of Zizi, many years, and love her. She does a great job managing my color and cuts well. Also, I have curly, frizzy hair and she handles it well, offering me different options to deal with it. No real complaints other than you can't tip using your credit card and the Salon doesn't take AMEX. But I like the email reminders for my appointments, and the assistants who shampoo my hair do a nice job. read more

love Young for the best massage around and mani/pedi. Very calm and quiet as opposed to some others around. Everyone is wonderful.
