Mistwood was our venue for both our wedding ceremony and reception, and everything was beautiful!…read moreWe planned everything in 11 months with the help of staff coordinator Audra. In July we attended the tasting to try all the dishes and from there chose all the menu options for the reception dinner. It was very convenient to have the venue as the caterer, and as we had eaten at McWethy's, their restaurant, many times (including the night we got engaged), we knew the food would be good. Since our wedding was in November, we had both the ceremony and the reception in the Great Hall. There was another event there (baby shower) in the morning but we were able to take possession of the bridal room at 2:30 pm and the other group had cleared out by then. My now-husband and his team of friends who were helping set up said the staff did a good job of quickly flipping the venue from the baby shower to ours. My only quibbles with the venue pertain to the bride room. There was only one lit bulb in the chandelier, so lighting was poor; no hangers in the closet; they provided us with a samovar of water upon request, but it leaked all over the vanity (water bottles would have been better); the couch is very low (my maid of honor couldn't get up from it without help; my mother brought in a couple of dining chairs so we weren't just standing, because there was just one other armchair to sit on); and it started out freezing but ended up roasting hot in the room. It was a good thing it was just me, my maid of honor, my mom and my hairdresser, and we had already done makeup at my mom's house in the morning, because if there had been lots of bridesmaids it would have been too crowded! (The bride room is connected to the public ladies room, but it has a keypad lock; the lighting in there is quite ambient as well.) We went for a medieval sort of theme with our wedding, so the Tudor-style beams and large fireplace in the Great Hall worked well with this. Our photographer also took photos outside against the golf course and building, including a lovely but very steep bridge. Cocktail hour was in the Terrace Room while they flipped the Great Hall from the ceremony seating to the tables and dance floor setup. We had arranged for specialty cocktails (named after our cats!) and the bartender delivered! The catering captain, Betty, introduced herself to us and also coordinated the timing of things well (speeches, bringing out the late night snack pretzel wall, etc). All the staff that we interacted with were true professionals. The food was all delicious (we chose NY strip with garlic herb butter sauce, chicken with champagne sauce, and cauliflower steak with pesto sauce as our three entree choices), and it was very helpful that they could make accomodations for vegans, vegetarians, people with gluten allergies, and dairy intolerance. This was quite an affordable yet very beautiful venue for our perfect day! Everything went perfectly as far as I know and we heard so many times from guests how lovely the setting was. I would highly recommend Mistwood as a wedding venue if you are planning for your special event.

Wow did I feel so small and stupid! Nicole came up to me in the waiting area and I could tell she was a little shocked at my age. When she found out I have never played well all she kept asking is what sports I have played. When I said none, she replied with "not even bowling?" With such a condescending attitude i really wanted to walk out then. She made it VERY clear with her attitude that she was very annoyed with having me as a student. I felt SO stupid and will never go back there and probably never take lessons anywhere because I do not want to ever feel like she made me feel ever again!

But I can't hold it back anymore. 48 hours later I am still pissed off. I played an excellent round, however I am certain it would have been better if it weren't for the terrible terrible management of this course. I started playing the north course with a mate I haven't seen in years. 1st hole, I'm about to pitch into the green, but wait, where is the flag? Ahhhhh grounds keeper forgot to put it in. Second hole. same situation for birdie. Grounds keeper is rolling the greens in his cart, sees my mate and I, drives off, oh and guess what? NO FLAG IN THE HOLE!!!!! Hole #3, I won't even say anything, because you could probably guess where the flag was. That's right. So I got irritated. I called the clubhouse . They sent out one of their workers to us only to tell us, "we need you guys to go to the east or south course." Fine. We go to the south course. Groove was fine. Finished it. Figured hey, let's head back to the north course, maintenance should be done. Which it was. Holes 7,8,9 just take a guess what I came across? NOT A SINGLE FLAG ON THEIR 2 TIER OVERSIZED GREENS!! WOW!!!! I left. Pissed Off instead of relaxed. Where was my compensation for doing what the grounds keeper should be doing??? Broken arrow, if/When you read this; please let me know when I can pick up my check for doing the labor your grounds keepers should have done? Sidenote: I live on a prestigious golf course in lemont, and I wake up every morning at 5AM because the grounds keepers are out there HARD AT WORK, making sure they get the job done before the first person steps up to the tee box.

The cart paths need to be resurfaced but hardly a big problem. We were surprised that there is not a bar that's open other than the halfway house. Since it was 93 degrees when we played we needed A/C after the round. We grabbed a beer in the pro shop (very cold) and sat on lobby furniture for our 19th hole. If management would make a few adjustments this could be a very good experience. So close to getting one of my regular weekly rounds. Let's go guys! Get some sand and set up a sports bar! You have the facilities. Build it and they will come!!

We paid $72 each for a 4:00 PM tee time and arrived to find there were no carts available and a delay in getting on the course. We were told we could use the driving range while waiting, but there were no range balls available either. Once we finally got a cart, there was no starter, no ranger, and no apparent management of pace of play. A group of 6-7 golfers was holding up the first hole, and despite calling the pro shop, nothing was done. To add to the chaos, there were also kids fishing in areas of the course near the fairways. The bunkers were extremely below expectations, and the overall operation felt disorganized from start to finish. There was also a wedding taking place near parts of the course, though due to the delayed start and slow pace of play, we never made it far enough to see how much it impacted play. For a course that regularly charges over $100 during peak times, the experience simply did not justify the cost. Save your money and consider one of the many better-run courses in the area.

Facilities & Staff: Pro shop is tiny and the #bro working in there was nice...a little to sarcastic for my liking, but nice. They Rangers and cart girl were also all friendly. They have ok practices areas with a putting green. Chipping area and a range. I Got a bucket to warm up on their range which is pretty far from the pro shop if you were walking. Range itself is nothing to get excited about just somewhere to warm up. No distance markers, just flags and a barn I pelted a couple times. Carts are very slow and the first one I grabbed had gas spilled all over the floorboard...I'm a smoker and that could been bad if I didn't catch it. Course & Gameplay: Started my round solo which was nice of the starters to let me try and play a round alone. Played the first 3 holes of blue like a champ the I got paired with a threesome of slow playing, long talking, senseless schmucks which totally killed my round. The blue course is a reasonably good challenge and nice to play. We had 30mph winds when I played which made every low iron shot a doozy. Made the turn to the white course after 2.5 on the front 9 with no one holding us up. Played 4 holes on the back nine and called it a day and drove off the course after realizing that I was stuck in golfers purgatory with a bunch of hacks that thought they were good and the last 4 holes would take over an hour, didn't want to let my frustration swings set me back before the end of the season either. Course was in overall good shape, the greens & fairways are ok, the rough was very manageable. The only bad thing they had going were their traps that were rock solid. Would i play here again? Maybe...
