I'm not there for a smooth cart path ride..the views are dope, the course is dope, and anywhere you go on any given day you can cry about the quality of the course. We are a group of ladies that travel on Tuesdays to different courses to play. We are all league players and play 3-5 times a week. Today we gave Praire Isle a try. We had lots of rain last night so we called ahead to verify the course was open for play with cart path availability. The person who answered was put off by my question. Very condescending. Stating "what are you talking about?" It is fine there is no water. NOT TRUE. (90 degree which is fine, but...A good golf course manager would NOT have allowed carts on the course with as much water they had. There were 2 sets of three players with our group and the men ahead of us were extremely slow so the men behind us were pushing us and hitting into us. The course was very wet, greens were in need of repair, and water in the sand traps. It is sad that so many golf courses like this one feel women should NOT be golfing. This is how this course made us feel. It is sad that this course does not make a real effort to welcome EVERYONE that comes out to play. (It's income for your club!) We will not be playing this course again. The only person there that we enjoyed was the beverage cart girl. She was awesome. read more

Course is okay. Won't return due to their current refund policy. I paid $165 for 18, stopped halfway through. Got a refund for what they charge for 9 holes, not 18. Should've been as simple as cutting it in half. Charged for 18, refunded for the cost of 9. They profit off rain checks. Not only did the profit off the refund policy, but charged me an additional $18 to play the next 9. Hate to make a rain check with that course. Played Sunday initially, then came back in on Tuesday. read more

The course is fine. It's cheaper than other courses in the area, but you get what you pay for. They have not maintained the cart path, so there are large pot holes, cracks etc. The carts backfire and sound like they are on their last leg, When we arrived, we went in to the pro shop to pay and the woman/teenager behind the counter was rude, I can only assume because we interrupted her phone time. As soon as we got out on the course on the first hole, they rode up and told us we were taking too long. We explained the group in front of us was still putting. I would definitely spend the extra money to golf at any of the other courses in the area. read more

This is surprisingly great! The greens were pristine and fairways are nice. It has a rustic feel to it, hilly and intimate,... plays fantastic with some great holes! I will agree with another commenter... the manager is a bit odd. I took the first tee time as a single and he was all bent out of shape that I wanted to do that. I played in 2.5 hours... and was home by 9. He wanted me to wait and play with the threesome behind me. Bizarre. read more

I really do like playing this course. Unfortunately, I had to give it 2 stars simply because of the manager Quentin. This man needs to go to anger a management class. He was totally disrespectful to our 4-some. I do host a large outing there every year and play maybe around 15 times a year, but after my last experience with him. I am done going there. He was ignorant to us on hole 1 and even came out on the turn to inspect our carts after we just bought a bunch of beer from the bar. Dealing with him is not worth playing here. read more

We've played here a few times with some friends that don't live far from this course. The course isn't in good shape, the pace of play is painfully slow, they don't have a ranger and the last time we played, the pro didn't care that the group in front of us was 3 holes behind the group in front of them and they held up the entire course. Nice course just northeast of Crystal Lake. Here are my thoughts: Clubhouse: Nice. Nothing fancy, but better than a lot of other places I know of. Pro shop is on the smaller size, but had a decent selection of equipment, apparel, balls, etc. Snack bar inside is average at best, but a good place to relax after the round for a drink. Driving Range: Yes and No. There is a driving range directly across the street, but that street is a state highway (Rt. 176), and it is not run by the golf course, to my knowledge. It is in very close proximity though, which is why I mention it. Practice Green: I grew up in those neck of the woods and there are courses that were closer to my house, but this is where I went to work on my putting. I really like their practice green. It is medium to large in size, has some undulation to it, plenty of holes to hit at without running into other players. I also liked how the practice green was usually cut to the course greens length. Nothing better than knowing what you are going to face on the course ahead of time! Course: All in all, its a pretty easy track. You have some serious risk vs. reward type holes, and others that are pretty plain. I think the highlight of the course are holes 11-15. 11 has a three-tiered green where if you hit the wrong tier high, you aren't looking at three putts, you might be looking at four! 12 and 13 run straight through the woods and required straight shots. 14 is the best risk/reward hole on the course. Cut the corner just right and you will like where you end up. 15 is a par three completely over water. If you can make through these 5 holes in good shape, you are looking at a solid round. Staff: Have never had a problem with anyone. That said, no one is really memorable either though. Don't know what that really means? Food: Most of the time during the summer when I have been there they have the grill out at the turn grilling brats, hot dogs, burgers, etc. To me, there is nothing better than a freshly grilled meal! Love when they do this. Prices are good too, better than most courses. Overall: In my opinion, I would rate this as one of the best of the second-tier courses in the area. I would not hesitate to play up there with friends if given the chance. You can do better than this, but you also can do a lot worse than this course. Give it a run! read more

Another great public golf course with some good challenges. Course is in great shape which is surprising this year with all the other course that struggled to get in shape after the harsh winter. Pricing is reasonable. Only issue is this is way out there away from Chicago if you are trying to find an out there public course. Otherwise if you don't mind the drive I think it was very worth it. read more

Great hidden gem of a course but will not be returning. Was put on hold 3 times overcharge (we paid $88 each fkr a foursome on a tuesday. Woman in pro shop would not refund difference and even if she did she is too mean for any of us to ever return. Horrible customer service! read more

Starters don't know how to count or maintain pace, and pro shop staff is barely paying attention.
