Our children have been patients at two of the "top-rated" pediatricians as we've moved over the years--and this is the only practice where you're truly treated as a person, not just a number. If you're looking for speed and convenience, you can always go to an assembly-line pediatrician. But if you want a true care team--literally two doctors who will know your children by name, provide thoughtful and individualized treatment, and actually keep you informed--this is the place for you. When I first called, Anastasia let me know they're a smaller practice. So yes, I may wait on hold for a couple minutes while they're helping another patient--but I'll take that any day over the rushed, impersonal care we've experienced elsewhere. At the other offices, they'd order multiple bacterial infection tests based only on symptoms I described over the phone--without even seeing my children. That's not care--that's just billing insurance as quickly as possible. Sky Valley is the complete opposite. Here, they take the time to listen, assess thoughtfully, and treat your family like their own.

I had an acute onset of severe neck pain and a heart arrhythmia occur at the same moment. The child/doctor at this clinic wanted to check me for a cervical neck problem, which would not affect my heart. She refused to consider any other diagnosis. A few days later, I called back urgently. I had been to the ER (again) and my liver enzymes had elevated 9x's higher in 72 hours. My heart didn't feel right, I was short of breath, had severe neck pain and liver pain. I also had pulmonary edema. The child/doctor who answered my call (it was a Sunday so the on call child/doctor) told me that the heart could not affect the liver!!! WHAT? The liver has a circulatory system doesn't it? She refused to help me. (Side note: YES the heart can cause liver failure and vice-versa). At this point, I was in heart, liver, and lung failure with a new abnormal heart rhythm, weight loss of 20 lbs in a few weeks, no appetite, severe neck pain, pathological anxiety, and a tremor. A few days later, I called AGAIN, begging for help. Saying something was very wrong with me. Rather than help, or even basic compassion, I got this: I live about 2.5 hours from UVA but I made an appointment at this clinic, and they saw me (thereby assuming responsibility for my care) because I planned to move to Charlottesville when Covid restrictions passed. Indeed, I am moving there in three weeks. So, it seemed to establish a primary care doctor there. But NO...when I called for help, in a very vullnerable state and extremely sick, the doctor I spoke with was obviously irritated with me, "Well what do you expect us to do to help you? Why did you even make at appointment at this clinic? We can't do anything to help you because you don't live in town..." I finally went elsewhere for help. Turned out I was having a thyroid storm. I had ALL the symptoms although the MD at this clinic only looked at a lab result that was several weeks old and decided it couldn't be my thyroid. She also labeled me as drug seeking because I begged for something for the severe anxiety a thyroid storm causes. Additionally, she labeled me as a psych patient. Thyroid storm is an ICU level medical emergency. Survival rates without treatment are dim. I'm lucky to be alive, and NO thanks go to UVA. I was seen in their ER twice, this clinic once, and spoke twice to doctors at this clinic begging for help. I received coldness, cruelty, and never even heard back from the clinic to apologize (I alerted them to what the medical issue had been once it was finally diagnosed). I can't even begin to explain the trauma I am left with or how much this clinic needlessly harmed my trust in medicine or my own mental health. Their cruelty at a time of such need will leave a mark on me for the rest of my life. I'm stable now, all I needed was a bottle of hydrocortisone and some medicine to absorb thyroid hormone. So, I advise you to avoid this place like the plague. These children/doctors have NO idea what they are doing and they caused me FAR more harm and did NO healing. The specific doctor I saw in the office was named Aviva Friedman. I did not get the names of the two I spoke with on the phone but they were all sub-adequate and I wouldn't let them treat my cat let alone a human being. It wasn't just that they were uneducated, but they were also CRUEL. Labeling someone in a thyroid storm as psych and drug seeking, while ignoring alarming lab results and symptoms in favor of personal bias is about the worst situation possible. Patients in a thyroid storm are already struggling psychologically due to the surge in thyroid hormone. I told them, repeatedly, that my anxiety was a symptom of something, not a diagnosis. This level of anxiety went on for weeks, unending. Psychological anxiety does not present that way nor does it start as if someone flipped a switch. They refused to listen to me or believe me. I could go on with more details but by now, you get the picture and you have been warned. After this experience, I will never see a family medicine doctor again. Only an internist. Even so, our medical system, and education in the US is extremely broken. This situation was beyond the pale. I felt as if I was living in a time when women were labeled "hysterical" and tossed in psych hospitals. Yes, that is how pathetic and primitive this clinic was. In no way would they listen to me, they thought they knew better. They also ignored lab results & did not order new labs, which would have shown abnormal hormone levels. The worst part though, is how snarky, snide, & cruel they were--so sure of their incorrect diagnosis & then how they couldn't even be bothered to call & apologize when they realized their mistake. Surely they realize that I almost died. They almost cost me my life with their incompetence, bias, and cruelty.

She seemed very nice in the beginning but didn't show much care about my health later on. She refused to give me a referral to see a specialist due to the fact that she ran all her possible test and couldn't figure out the reasoning for my elevated calcium levels, which is why I requested to see a specialist! She mistreated me as a patient saying that my insurance was not going to cover for me to see one, which was none of her business. She prescribed me high blood pressure meds which end up making my levels even higher and is not recommended for a person with that condition. Anyway, I did what any other patient should do when you have a I Don't Care about my patient doctor.. seek for another provider. That's exactly what I did. He ran all his test and got down to the bottom of things and come to find out it was my Thyroid. He sent an order to for me to get an ultrasound of my neck as well a referral for me to see a specialist. Mary's test that she ran said normal and when my new doctor ran his test it was not even close to normal range! I feel like she knew something which is why she refused me to see a specialist. Guys some doctors just don't give a damn about your health and sorry to say you have to always get an opinion elsewhere!! I would not recommend to see her at all. She was wrong how she treated me as a patient. I have never heard of a doctor not wanting to send a referral over to a specialist especially if they themselves can't figure out the problem. Dr. Kin seems very dry when you first meet him, but once you've been in a few times his wit and caring attitude take over. He makes his point about your health without making you feel bad. The thing I really like (besides his nurse Melinda) is that Dr. Kin will send you to a specialist when he sees that something in your bloodwork is not quite right. For me, this helped discover an autoimmune disease that left untreated could have put me in dire circumstances. I highly recommend Dr. Kin aand his staff as your next family physician!

My husband and sons also see Dr. Amir Alemzadeh and Dr. Mousavi. Now, must admit, I left the practice about 3 years ago because of my work/home schedule and found a holistic doc in the area. When Dr Alemzadeh started one day a week in Stafford - I made my appointment for January 2nd! Great start to the new year. I highly recommend this team of doctors, they have great bed - side manners, are professional, and I never feel rushed. Quest Diagnostics (blood work) is conveniently located in the same building. During my introductory visit, my vitals were checked and a detailed health history was taken. Dr. Harrington asked me to elaborate on some of my history and both he and his nurse/PA (Latonya Williams) acted as if they had all the time in the world to address my concerns and questions. I am confident should any health issues arise, they will be address quickly and taken care of thoroughly (I am approaching 60 so yes, there will be issues at some point). My 85 year old mother (difficult to please on occasion) now sees Dr. Harrington and "adores" him. I can definitely recommend Dr. Harrington should you be looking for a family doctor.

Recently I attended a symposium at UVA for EDS (Elhers-Danlos Syndrome) and one of the things they…read moretalked about was "gaslighting" and that it was not only friends and family that gaslight those of us who have complained of the same symptoms for years and even decades, but also many in the medical field. I am writing this review a year later because I am still so darn mad at the treatment I received at Rapidan and want to warn others. Originally I went in for a tick bite, the nurse I saw was rude and completely discounted my concerns with the bite, telling me it was "normal" and when I explained that I had never in my life felt the actual bite from a tick at the moment it happened like I had with this one and that I was concerned about possible infections because I have hEDS, she snapped at me, telling me that it was impossible that I had EDS because I was 65 and would never have lived to be that age if I had EDS. I was shocked and explained that there are 13 types and that she was mistaken, that I did not have vEDS, the most severe type, but have hEDS, the most common type and those of us that have it certainly do live past 65. She voiced in an angry tone that I did not know what I was talking about and that the bite was nothing, again I reiterated my concerns and she again told me I did not know what I was talking about and left the room. Even though a year has passed, it bothers me that a medical professional would be that nasty to a patient, would have no clue that there are as many types of EDS and would discount a patient completely when a fact was pointed out.

I don't feel rushed, and I feel like she is genuinely concerned about my well being and at find the cause of my symptoms, and not just treating the symptom it's self to get me out the door. New patient appointment takes a little while, but after that I've had no issues getting an appointment with either Dr. Voss or her PA rather quickly. In office lab also very convenient. Definitely recommend.
