okay...here goes. I've been doing a restoration on a '68 Chevrolet Corvair (air-cooled wonder!) for…read morea little over five years. Some of it myself and some farmed out. I'm a "tinkerer" not a trained mechanic. Many things have to be improvised like replacing the mechanical fuel pump with an electric one as mechanical ones are no longer reliable. So--I got in above my head and thought I needed a complete cylinder head removal/machine shop and partial engine rebuild. The compression was off in one cylinder. Took it to Jeff who was very straightforward and although he did not claim to be an expert in almost 60 year old Chevy Corvairs...he didn't toss me out on my ear. (I had wasted a year with three different shops before Cowans who each said they knew what they were doing and let the car sit while scratching their heads -or other parts of their anatomy). Jeff understands air cooled engines and is an airplane pilot which helps ....he did the troubleshooting on the aftermarket fuel pump (wired incorrectly) installed a relay and got the gas flowing. Then, he adjusted the timing to compensate for a new electronic distributor. Straightened out more of the electrical and got everything "syncing." Replaced oil sending unit, Adjusted the carbs, told me where to get the right higher octane non-ethanol fuel nearby and suggested I replace the expensive Optima battery with the right battery for this car. The noble old "anti-Nader" machine is now operating under its own power again and not being dragged from place to place on a trailer. Smooth as silk. Best part: he saved me from expensive engine work which I was already prepared to face! Oh--and just a word about the culture of this shop. Honest, patient, don't try to treat the customer as an adversary. Stacy who handles the front is just as pleasant and professional as they come. I have spent the last year --before Cowan's-complaining to my wife about auto repair shops. I grew up in a Chevy dealership, so I have a "sixth sense" about how places operate. This one places a high value on doing things right the first time, being honest and communicating with their customers. I felt heard. I felt respected. I felt well-treated. The old adage is "business goes where it is invited and stays where it is well-treated." My business now goes to Jeff Cowan automotive.

So much so that we stand behind our repairs with a 1yr/12,000 mile warranty! Parts and Labor included. If a covered repair fails in that time frame bring it to us and we'll take care of it, No gimmicks, No B.S.! After paying for services; and now paying again to get the same thing fixed; we realized that Cowan never replaced the part to begin with. They reset the codes causing it to work for awhile; then avoided me after calling about it. They then said they wouldnt be able to look at it for a week; and when getting it in they kept it for a week just to tell me a story about codes. After discovering no senosr was put on at all I will be taking further action and keep everyone updated on how Cowans REALLY handles business. I hate it has to come to this but refuse to be taken advantage of hate to see others be. NOTICE how they said/quoted: "Your 10+ days of storage was free. The repairs it requires, are not." Pretty bold when you dont repair anything and lets not even talk about the word "WARRANTY". B.S!
