It's right by the elevators and it's huge, with two entrances and a huge intake and waiting area. It runs like a well-oiled machine. First you check-in, then someone calls you over to verify all your info and appointment, and then they take you back for your MRI or Mammogram or advanced cat scan, etc. I ended up having to come back the very next day for more imaging so I was here twice and both times were quick and pleasant. All the staff were wonderful. You're given a gown, lock your things in a locker, and will be called back when they're ready to do your imaging. Both days, different staff, all super professional and nice and calming. I was able to easily and quickly get my results and hop upstairs to have my follow-up appointment one of the days with my physician who already had the results. Boom! Hopefully, I can start getting my MRIs here too and won't have to go to separate places anymore. Win, win.

Who knew that there was an Advanced Imaging Center in the Sentara Brock Cancer Center? Certainly…read morenot me. One Registration & large waiting area also include a Breast Center, Diagnostic Center & Lab. How surprised I was when Central Scheduling offered that location as the next available appointment. The time was also perfect. It was early evening when both the parking lot & the waiting room were almost completely empty. Although the arrival time was quoted as 30 prior to the testing, I was taken back pretty quickly, The technicians in the MRI room couldn't have been nicer. After noticing that I had no clothing with metal, I was allowed to have the procedure in my street clothes rather than a hospital gown. They were careful to assure that I was OK on the table with my bad back. First a pillow was placed under my knee. Then at my request they placed another one under my back. My head was secured in an open faced chamber so it wouldn't move. Next they offered little ear stoppers & headphones. After asking my choice of music (70's) they began playing a tune that wasn't to my liking. I was asked to name a group I liked (Eagles) & a new playlist began. I was happily singing along with the music until I looked up & saw two wide eyed faces staring down at me. My response was "I guess you don't want me to sing along." Both faces emphatically shook their heads NO. The machine was wonderful. You could barely hear the usual MRI sounds. One setting even felt like you were getting a back massage. The hardest thing was controlling my strong urge to sing along with the music. When the MRI was completed a technician helped me get off the table & I went on my way. The location is quite convenient. The Sentara Brock Cancer Center is a part of the ever expanding Sentara Leigh campus. It's the gorgeous building sitting on Virginia Beach Boulevard just to the east of the new Sentara Orthopedic Surgery Center. Both buildings have their own parking & also share a parking garage. Located on the southeast corner of the intersection of Kempsville Road & Virginia Beach Boulevard, entrance & exit is possible from either street. My experience & care was so good that I scheduled my follow-up CatScan at that Imaging Center. An added benefit is that appointments are available sooner than most Sentara facilities. I think most people, like me, don't know that there is a center in the building. So it's not requested as often. This is a facility I would highly recommend, from check in to exit. It's beautiful, clean, convenient & filled with friendly & helpful employees.

I'd like to start by saying that while I haven't visited the physical building, I was referred here…read moreby my doctor to work with a dietitian to help me lose weight and improve my health. This isn't something I ever would have considered earlier in my life--not for any particular reason, I just wouldn't have done it. However, for the past four months, I have been working with Dennis Bueso, MA, RD (Clinical/Sports Dietitian), and the experience has been nothing like I expected. Being very overweight, I anticipated someone taking charge of the conversation and lecturing me on what I 'better' start doing. I think TV gave me a twisted idea of how these things go. Thankfully, it hasn't been like that at all. Our conversations are excellent and open. Mr. Bueso is incredibly 'chill' and immediately sets you at ease; it feels like a normal, back-and-forth conversation between two people. He is great at following up and is just a genuinely easy person to talk to. Since starting, I've seen amazing results. For those who know what A1C is, mine had been double what it should be for over five years. In just four months, I've brought it down to exactly where it's supposed to be. I give myself credit for controlling my diet, but Dennis has been instrumental in helping me understand what to watch and work on. In addition to the blood work, I've lost over 30 pounds in that same timeframe. I definitely want to give props and thanks to Mr. Bueso. If your doctor has recommended a dietitian, just do it. I worried about how it would go, but those worries were unnecessary. It has been a great experience. We only get one shot at life; I may have started this battle late, but I'm determined to battle to the end. Thank you if you read all my ramblings. :) Thank you again Dennis. Tim

They also give you exercises that you can do at home. I went for the dry needling, but found out my insurance doesn't cover it, but you have the option to pay out of pocket. The room is wide open so it will be several other patients getting worked on at the same time. They do have some private rooms. You're given several exercises to build your strength back up in whatever area you have issues with, and they also incorporate some massage, and heating pads into your treatment. It's about an hour visit, and you're in and out. Wear something comfy. I have used them in the past as well and think its a nice office to use for your therapeutic needs. Check them out!!

The center is located on the ground floor of River Pavilion at Sentara Norfolk General. Enter off Brambleton onto Gresham then loop around through the back section of the complex to the covered entrance way to River Pavilion. Free valet parking is available for patients. The location is convenient not just for Norfolk but also Portsmouth, Northern Suffolk & Western Branch via the Midtown Tunnel. It's an easy drive for those of us in the northwest section of Virginia Beach. I would suspect that the areas of Chesapeake with easy access to the Downtown Tunnel & I-264 would also find it a convenient location. Only knowing that this testing was required before seeing the Otologist that my Otolaryngologist had referred me to, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The only thing I did know was that archaic inner ear testing by a Virginia Beach ENT decades ago had produced a violent reaction. Because of his bedside (chair side actually) manner I never returned. So I brought a driver. The two tests were scheduled for an hour each. So I knew they would be extensive. Hearing was first. I was amazed by both their high tech equipment and extensiveness. The techs were extremely nice, even showing me a computer printout of the graphic results at different pitches & vocal sounds. I didn't understand the hearing testing being required because my complaints never included hearing. But my later research indicated that hearing could be related to inner ear & balance issues. After they finished they sent me to balance, which I learned would be the area where I would be tortured. :) The technician was a very competent & compassionate administrator of torture, just the opposite of what I had experienced decades ago. The equipment was even more futuristic than hearing. Three tests were administered. I made it through the first two with mild results & thought, after the an explanation of the last test, I had made it through the regiment without a violent reaction. Wheww.... But not so! What I thought were just black goggles were actually computerized & measured everything going on as all three tests were administered. During the 3rd test I told the technician what it felt like my eyes were doing. She confirmed that they were, which was my first indication that she could see everything going on inside the dark cave my goggles created. I didn't even make it through the first half before the results gave her the information the doctor needed to work with. Afterwards she was very nurturing, which was much appreciated. As I sat on the table I told her that I wanted to research the science behind why that type of testing would make me so sick. She provided me with a pamphlet on all the tests which would be immensely helpful when I recovered. What was meant to be an hour test stretched into 1 1/2 hours before she walked me to sit in the lobby with my driver. "Don't worry", she said. "The Doctor won't torture you. That's my job." :) She was great. The paperwork to be completed before the testing was extensive. I feel that they gleaned more information for the Otologist from both the testing & paperwork than any other specialist I've ever seen. And believe me, that's quite a lot! I am so impressed with the EVMS specialists. The EVMS Hearing & Balance Center comes with my highest recommendation for anyone with inner ear issues. I've never had a hearing test before. But I can't imagine any practice being as thorough and well equipped as this. Thank you EVMS, not just for being a great medical school but also for the amazing practices of your faculty members. Coastal Virginia is very lucky to have you.
