After searching and searching I found this practice and Dr. Peter Laplace through word of mouth. I am ever so glad that I did. Staff here is so friendly and helpful. I am never confused about any of the policies or billing. Appointments are easy to schedule and they even have an online patient portal for you to view your records and care plans. Having struggled for several years with a few chronic issues I am finally at a place in my physical and mental health where I'm not just getting by but am happy and on a road to healthy. This is all credited to Dr. Laplace. He listened to my issues and concerns and guided me to the best recovery path. No throwing meds at me and moving on to the next patient! We thoroughly went over the short term and long term goals and plans. Healthcare is a vital part of life and having a doctor who listens and cares is paramount to receiving the best Healthcare. I have only brought a couple people over here for different services and I had services done for cancer treatment. I was truly satisfied with my service. The building is beautiful the parking is terrible, sometimes you have to pay sometimes you don't sometimes you can get close parking sometimes you can't. This is a busy facility plus you have a children's hospital here you have a heart hospital and I think a sex change hospital here. PETA is JUST ABOUT across the street. It's near Ghent. Dr. Banu Myeni did not care. I called him begging him to reconsider. He denied my pleas, and at a time when I needed him the most. He has NO sympathy, NO empathy, and wouldn't even help me by refilling my prescriptions until i got settled with a new PCP. I dont even know how he sleeps at night. I've been with Gen Care for a few months now. The first couple of months were okay. (Honeymoon…read morephase). After that, I noticed A LOT of "human errors". (Ex. I went in for a cat scan and when they brought me back to the room I noticed there was a needle and tubes (Blood test). I asked the nurse if that was for me and she said yes, she was taking 5 test. I informed her that I just had blood work done 2 weeks previous and that I was there for a cat scan. She excused herself and when she came back she told me that I could go back to the waiting room, I was the wrong patient. Had I not pointed out that I wasn't there for blood work, would she have continued with the "wrong patient"?! Another disappointing experience with Gen Care was when I got a phone call from them asking me what kind of strips did I need. "Strips? Is that for diabetes", I asked. She said yes, that I had called the week before requesting strips. Again, I informed her that I don't have diabetes. She replied that the request was in my file. (again, human error?) I had called the week before, but it was for a UTI! I had brought a urine sample to them previous to the phone call made a week ago and had not heard anything. She put me on hold, came back and said my result was negative... Weeks later, I am still suffering. I got a call since then, cancelling my April 28th appt. rescheduling it the end of May. I said okay, and asked what am I suppose to do with this UTI. She said to bring in another sample and they would send it out. If it comes back negative again, they will refer me to a urologist. Enough is enough. They give me the impression that they don't care about me or what I am going through. I just got off the phone with Humana and have changed providers.

Many of you may not be familiar with concierge medicine, but they are a new way of practicing…read moremedicine (or the way medicine SHOULD be practiced). These businesses are popping up in big cities all over the US and is playing a new role in primary care. Basically, patients pay a yearly fee to have access to these doctors 24 hours day, 7 days a week. You get a secret after hours number that you can call on weekends to ask questions or request prescriptions. They will come visit you in the Norfolk General Hospital if you ever become an inpatient. You get at least 30 min for an appointment which you can schedule the same day. During the day, you can contact the doctor through email or phone. When you come through the door, you know you're getting quality care. The view from the top floor is breathtaking. You are immediately greeted and given a beverage. Parking is free with validation. Each doctor has their own nurse. The blood draw clinic is in the same building and they come to you. CT/MRI are nearby and the doctor gets back to you immediately! As with all doctor clinics, you have to find a doctor that matches your needs/personality. This group has several of them, each unique in their approach to patient care. I highly advise interviewing with more than one doctor before choosing one to settle on.
