These guys charged $600 to basically tell me I need to spend $800 on a fusebox they get for $375 from Chevy LOL Glad I took my truck home and had mechanic do it on the side. Thank you, Precision Auto Service for saving me over $900! When my Chevy 3500 Diesel Pick-up Truck developed an issue with its Transmission Control Module (TCM) I took it to the Chevy dealer. When that dealer didn't fix it I had it towed to a second Chevy dealer. When it looked like the second dealer wouldn't be able to make the repair, I called Precision Auto Service in Sacramento. I spoke with Rick. After days of dealing with the problem, I had gained some knowledge concerning TCMs (essentially a computer that helps the vehicle's transmission be as efficient as possible). From speaking with Rick, I could tell he knew his stuff. I explained the problem and asked if Precision Auto would be able to fix it, in the event the second dealer could not. Rick assured me they could make the repair. Next, Rick asked me about my warranty with Chevy. My truck is six years old and has 63K miles - well over the warranty - or so I thought. Rick educated me as to the Federal Emissions Warrant that goes beyond the GM warranty. I looked into it as neither dealer had mentioned it. Chevy was able to make the repair and was ready to bill me over $900. Because of Rick's technical expertise and his mentioning of the Federal Emissions Warranty, I knew the dealer wasn't being 'up front' regarding coverage under warranty. In the end, I didn't pay a dime! Next time my truck has any need at all I will have Precision Auto Service do the work. Before I could write a Yelp review on this business, I wanted to personally visit Precision Auto Repair; I had dealt with them over the phone only up to this point. I met Rick and his partner Scott. Talk about a HUGE ripoff. I KNEW I should not have trusted his quote. He charged me around $1,100 for a radiator replacement for my 2007 Nissan 350z. He told me he needed to "use special Japanese radiator fluid". This was before I started to get into cars more and learn how to replace my own things. Keep in mind, OEM radiators for the Z is roughly $137, however, he most likely receives discounts on product. Coolant is roughly $31, so around $62 for the two gallons (if needed). That's roughly $200 for just the parts. You're telling me I had to pay $900 for labor? No thanks. They were nice, but they're definitely trying to take your money out of your pockets into theirs. read more

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer with over 370K, owned since new. It has changed hands from me, to my older son, to now my younger teen son. For the most part I tend to do my own automotive repairs, but currently I'm working up in Seattle while my family is back in Sacramento. Far from honest. This place is the epitome of shady mechanics. Not only were they trying to charge me for services I specifically told them I don't want, but now they are trying to hold my vehicle hostage. After I dropped it off, they told me they could not do ANYTHING because the battery is dead. I need to pay $265 for a new battery and $65 for them to install it. When I came to pick up my vehicle, they are now trying to say that they did work on it and they will not release it unless I pay them. After they told me they could not do anything until I bought a battery from them. This place ought to be shut down! They are the reason auto mechanics have a bad name. read more

While I can't write a review based solely on workmanship I can certainly write a shining review on Precision's professionalism, integrity, experience, and honesty. Rare qualities in a business these days... I left the bay area in the early AM on a Friday morning to start my road trip up the west coast heading to Vancouver, BC! Much to my dismay, my check engine light came on for the first time ever that very morning. With 900+ miles to drive and close to 2000 mile round trip I was unsure if I should continue on with my planned journey. Luckily I had a warranty through my car company but the several locations I called at 7:00am were unable to help me because of busy schedules or would have me wait around for several hours, if they could help at all. All I needed was a quick diagnostic to let me know was going on... if I should head home or not. I was able to reach a few companies that could get me in, but for a $100 or $150 charge and a couple hour wait. I called Precision Automotive Service and Rick Norton answered... he told me they were pretty booked up but he'd take a quick look right then and let me know what was going on. I headed over there quickly... He ran the diagnostic and explained I had a piston misfire. He explained the best and worst case scenarios very clearly and said he'd clear it out if I preferred, but not without a word of caution. Took the clear out and I tried to offer him some money and he refused, explaining he was happy to help us get on the road again. I was perplexed... the guy went out of his way to simply help me out. Based on this professionalism alone, I would highly recommend these guys to anyone! Not only that, Rick's advice was correct.. I had no more issues on the road trip up and back down and none since. Took my car there to get an estimate on a brake job, rear brakes. Estimate said rotors needed replaced, along with new calipers. Total rear brake job, a grand! Really? I don't think so. Took car to another shop for second opinion, doesn't need new rotors or calipers, rotors can be turned, calipers are fine. Brake pads yes. My car was overheating and I brought it into this shop having never been there before. After charging me a rather high $150 diagnostic fee and told me I needed a new water pump and a lot of other "plastic parts" that just also happened to be leaking radiator fluid. The estimate was $2,100. They also recommended new transmission fluid when I had recently had it changed. They wanted to charge me an additional $60 because they checked the freon level in my AC which I refused to pay. I took the car to another garage and they replaced the water pump for $600 and that was all it needed. 3 months later the car is still running fine. I dodged a bullet. read more

Not recommended. My female friend had a drivers side window stop working. After learning the total cost of repair she asked me to accompany her to pick up the vehicle. She knows little about cars and felt like she needed help communicating with the mechanics. I was shocked to see a total asking $500 to replace a window regulator. When confronted about the high price, the staff at precision automotive service asked what my relationship is to the customer. I thought this was a strange question because it's nobodies business and should make no difference. I was simply concerned with my friend being over charged. I was then asked what I am basing my claim on. I had my window replaced on a 2007 Lexus rx400h at the Lexus dealership and didn't pay as much. The staff member explained that all cars repairs are different but I can't accept that a 2000 Honda window regulator costs more to repair than a 2007 Lexus at the dealership. The staff assured me that the parts and labor are warrantied and things like that. I'm sure the work was done well and this is prob a very decent shop it you don't mind spending way more than you have to. We let the shop know that we would share our review with the yelp community and they agreed that people deserve to read an honest review. So in conclusion, the shop would not budge on price. The customer would not have agreed to make the repairs had she known she was being over charged. $277 was charged for a window regulator (same eom honda part was found online for $79) and the total for labor was $209. The receipt did not show the hourly rate or the time spent on the repair. Just a total for labor. They also gave us 3 pages of recommendations from their "courtesy inspection". I believe most of the "labor time" for the repair of the window was spent looking for more things to fix. If you're on a budget I would not recommend this shop. If you're looking for a positive experience and good customer service I would absolutely not recommend this shop. It doesn't feel good to be ripped off. It really doesn't feel good to not be heard as a customer. There's no arguing that the price they charged was way unreasonable and any good business would understand there's more profit in ensuring customer satisfaction than there is in ripping people off and having them voice their experience on the internet. read more

Way over priced!! I went here to have my car looked at they charged me $160 for an inspection. They then listed off like $3,000 worth of fixes. Somehow when they were messing with my car they broke the drivers side keyless lock, I didn't realize his until I got home. My cars not super old, but needed a tune up. I left and took my car to the dealership a lot of the things they pointed out were wrong and some of them were known recalls that I got fixed for free. I got all new tires, full tune up, oil change, belts changed, my recalls fixed and the locks fixed for around $600. I recommend going to your dealership first before having to deal with people that know nothing about your particular car and have no clue about any recalls your car might have, they just want the most money they can have I mean really, the diagnostic fee was insane, it's just a car. read more

Lindsey went above and beyond to try to help us out, even arguing with the third parties involved, on our behalf. After dealing with so many different terrible people it was beyond comforting to finally find someone who we felt we could trust, and who communicated extremely well. After 3 failed used engines we finally landed at precision and they were able to get us back on the road as painlessly as possible.
