7/22/19 update: I…read morehad my two rental properties get a check up from champion today. The appointment was at 8:00 AM, and they were there at 8:00 AM. This used to shock me, but not anymore, because 4 out of 4 times, they've been exactly on time. I had the pleasure of meeting Cameron and Dawn today. Both were very professional and didn't try to upsell me on anything. Dawn was very personable and professional, which is hard to find that combination in businesses these days. Cameron is an impressive young man who was professional as well. He was training Dawn, so, I didn't have as much interaction with him. But the interaction I had was great. What I like about this company is they'll text you when they're showing up with a picture of the poison who is coming out. That's a great safety feature. Despite the fact that I believe myself to be intelligent, I am a sixty-eight-year-old single woman…read morethat was taken advantage of by Champion Comfort Experts. My July water bill spiked so I knew there was a leak somewhere. After checking all the indoor probable culprits and finding no issue, I discovered the ground out front very wet at the water shut off valve. When I called Champion I even said that I suspected I needed a new shut off valve. The Champion technicians came to the same conclusion and with my approval, they proceeded to install a new turn off valve. Once that was completed they told me that there was still a leak of unknown origin. After conferring phone calls and further digging in my front yard they determined that the leak must be under the slab of my house and that the likely resolve would include tearing up concrete of my front patio and likely flooring and walls within my home. When they left that day I had no water, an open mess in my front yard, and absolutely no solution from Champion, PLUS they wouldn't leave without $1197.33 payment for the new valve. The next day I wrangled a technician from another company to take a look. What I'm about to tell you is so sophomoric, it's hard not to laugh at the stupidity. Instead of removing the faulty value or installing the new around the faulty valve, abandoning it completely, the Champion Techs installed the new valve directly onto the old leaking one. So every time they tried to turn on the water it continued to leak. Adding insult to injury, thus far I have not been refunded my $1197.33. Despite receiving an email stating I would receive a full refund, I never have, not one cent, and they have blocked my phone number from calling their business. Sincerely, Seriously Screwed Old Lady

828 Electric was recommended by neighbors on NextDoor with almost all mentioning Joel, the owner…read more Joel sent a guy named Michael to my house to do the quote. I showed him around the house and talked to him about my wiring needs for every room except the kitchen, which had been done by a licensed electrician a year earlier as part of a kitchen remodel. As we walked around the house, he said he was going to rewire the kitchen, even though it had already been done. He didn't really give a reason. I took him to the crawlspace after that where he discovered some questionable wiring. A week and a half passed and still no quote was sent to me so I contacted Joel and 2 to 3 days later spoke with Michael, who called me to say he would have it the next day but it ended up coming a few days later. The quote was at the high end and just a lump sum with very little detail. I responded a few days later with an email asking for detail and a breakout of the kitchen that I didn't want to pay for twice but didn't hear from him again until the following week. Communication was very poor. Because I was new to the area I posted on the NextDoor app asking people if not receiving any detail with a quote was a common occurrence for Western NC. Many people responded that it was not and that they wouldn't accept a quote like that (I did not mention 828 electric in my post). When Michael finally called me after days had passed once again, he stated that providing a lump sum without detailed parts and labor was the way they did things, and no one had ever asked him for more detail (apparently I was the first in all the years they'd been in business). I found that hard to believe but didn't really know what to say. He said that he wanted to rewire the kitchen because of the questionable wiring in the crawlspace but when he told me he was including the kitchen in his quote, he hadn't yet seen the questionable wiring so that was patently not true. He continued the call in a this is "my way or the highway" tone instead of looking for a middle ground regarding detail. Of course I didn't use them and I would not recommend this company to anyone.

When called, they want you to perform some tests of your own before they'll make the trip. Gotta be kidding me. And when they DO eventually show months later, they don't bring all of the equipment you even told them to bring! Guess what? Another month away... My 'guess' is that they do this to push the warranty claim out so that they don't have to eat the cost of their shoddy work. No AC for months in SC?? It's a good thing I'm not a violent person...
