Chris and his team were efficient (on time everyday - worked on Saturdays) easy to communicate with and kept me informed throughout the process. Asking for my input and adjusting to my preferences. When discussing the estimate and hashing out the details my Dad suggested we add a 'Time' clause ie 'If you go longer than the agreed upon time frame of 5 weeks there will be a monetary penalty', well Chris did not bat an eyelash and agreed without hesitation - he knows his crew and how they work so was not at all worried about running long - and to our delight he was RIGHT!! They estimated 5 weeks for a basement remodel to include demo, a true bedroom, tv room and a fully built bathroom with plumbing and were done in 4!!! We have been living in the space for almost a month now and have had no issues, no surprises - not one!! I find this to be a point of praise for AB Remodeling!! Chris and his crew were respectful of our home, were helpful in general and cleaned up all of the construction mess - to include hauling away all the trash. This really is a one stop shop kinda company, demo, planning, building, electric, tiling to plumbing... they did it all with ease. So helpful to us. This was our first foray into home renovations with an outside contractor and we couldn't be more pleased. Beautiful , clean and quality work! We were remodeling our basement and got several quotes, but Chris immediately stood out with a fair, reasonable price and a thoughtful approach that made us feel comfortable right from the start. What really set Chris apart was how involved he was before the work even began--and all the way through the project. He offered great design and layout suggestions we honestly wouldn't have thought of on our own, from flooring choices to lighting to small details that made a big difference. He also helped design the space so it functions like three different rooms while still feeling like one connected, open area, which completely changed how we use it. His team was on time, professional, and incredibly respectful. They put down protective matting as they went in and out of the basement, swept the floors daily, cleaned up debris as they worked, and treated our home with real care. They even took their shoes off before coming inside. It genuinely felt like they were remodeling their own home, not just doing a job. The crew truly felt like family, and the before-and-after transformation of our basement is incredible. There were also a lot of thoughtful touches that really stood out. On days when we weren't home, Chris and his team would bring our garbage cans up near the house on collection day, which was completely unexpected and very appreciated. Even after the basement was finished, they helped move furniture and larger items downstairs, which felt truly above and beyond. Our dog even loved them--and he's a pretty good judge of character. Throughout the entire process, they were consistently kind, considerate, and easy to have around. One highlight that still amazes me: Chris and his team stained the basement stairs to perfectly match our first-floor stairs. I honestly didn't think it could be done, but they took their time and absolutely nailed it. The drywall and framing work were done beautifully, and what really stood out was that Chris came back later to check on everything and make small touch-ups, just to be sure the work held up. That level of pride and follow-through is rare. They painted the ceiling black and were meticulous--no missed spots, no shortcuts. Everything was done with care. We agreed on a timeline, and they started when they said they would, finished on time, and left the space spotless when the job was done. To make things even easier, we simply picked out samples from Home Depot, and Chris and his team handled all the materials. The entire process was smooth and stress-free. All we had to do was make one call, do a little planning, and enjoy our new basement one to two weeks later. And honestly, our basement is now one of our favorite parts of the house. It's peaceful, quiet, and truly enjoyable. What we expected to be just a more functional space turned into a place we actually love spending time in. The whole experience felt exciting--almost like Christmas morning--watching it come together. The results completely exceeded our expectations. We're really happy we chose Chris and his team for this project. On his first visit, Carlos thoroughly cleaned and sanded the deck. He also went above and beyond by power-washing underneath it, an area that desperately needed attention. I had not asked him to do that, so I really appreciated the extra effort. When he returned to stain the deck, the finished result looked fantastic. Carlos was prompt, honest, upfront about pricing, and clear about what needed to be done. I am extremely happy that I hired him, and my deck now looks great and meets my HOA's requirements. This review is about a total makeover of my very small upstairs bathroom. I had previously had…read moreinstalled a tub-shower surround, but I needed someone to finish the walls(paneled) and floor(tiled). Since I told Huck at the outset that I wanted to save money where ever I could, he made recommendations and gave me options where ever he could. He sent numerous emails about products and materials which helped me finalize my plans. save money=sm. I agreed to remove the paneling=sm. He recommended wainscoting from floor half way up and new drywall the rest. Topnotch Results! I removed 90% of the tile=sm. He recommended waterproof laminate flooring. Very Happy! I installed new vanity, new faucet, 2 new lever door handles, and brushed polished all door hinges=sm. My next door neighbor had some drywall repair done and recommended Huck. Drywall is his specialty. He can show you many examples of his specialty as well as his painting and installation skills(new toilet and new medicine cabinet). You will be well pleased with his experience and attention to detail.

Prior to using Mar's, we had a different contractor attempt to stain a very large vaulted wood…read moreceiling. That contractor tried multiple times, and always came up short. So we called in Mar. He took one look at it and said "why do you have three different colors?". That started a process where he picked a part of the ceiling in a closet to test. He tried different ways to remove the existing stain and get down to the bare wood. Ultimately, we used a combination of strippers and sanding to get back to the base. His guys were on scaffolds, sometimes on their backs, for weeks working on this enormous project. When they got it stripped, we tested about 5 different shades before deciding on one. Mar and his crew then applied the stain in multiple coats. Some parts of the ceiling needed 3 coats, some needed more. Ultimately Mar's got the job done, then applied two or three coats of polyurethane sealer to make it look consistent. When that was done, they poly'ed the cross beams. The final job was so astounding that a year later, people still come into the Lodge and stare at the ceiling. Subsequent to that, we needed to have various other painting and drywalling jobs done. Over the course of the summer, Mar's painted every single room in our Lodge, and even did work for us outside. All of it was absolutely perfect - zero complaints, everything cleaned up. They even left us the extra paint in case we needed to touch something up. During the process, we had surfaces that hadn't been painted in 40 years and suffered from old cigarette/cigar smoke - they cleaned and sealed all that, then painted. We had surfaces that had been previously painted and needed to be sanded - they took care of that, everything came out great. We chose the wrong shade - and to redo it in the shade we chose after that, Mar came in and ensured it was done to hit our deadline. I checked the door access logs - he'd come in at 2AM some nights to make sure everything was done on time. We had him repaint an apartment, fixing ceiling water damage from an overflowing A/C drain pan. Everything they do is absolutely fantastic. We had chair rail installed in the Lodge Room - but to get the radius for the heater covers would have been prohibitively time consuming and expensive, so we had Mar match the color in paint; and at first glance it looks like wood. He painted our staircase hand rails (which were awfully mismatched before), and they look beautiful. I'm 100% serious when Is say that the jobs were perfect. Zero complaints. If you want to see it yourself - come on by the A.O. Fay Masonic Lodge in Highland Park, IL on one of our stated meeting nights (3rd Monday evening - about 6PM). We'll be glad to show you the whole place - and especially the crown jewel of a Lodge Room Ceiling. You'll be amazed.
