Sept. 2025 We ask Nir and Elba from Preferred Home Builders to come back to our home to help us remodel a bathroom. Preferred Home Builders did an awesome job on renovating three bathrooms in my house in 2023 and fixing a leak in our ceiling. I kept delaying on writing this review but finally decided to take some time to write it! PHB completed the entire renovation in approximately 2 months. They were professional from start to finish and their office and Benji were great at communicating and providing a schedule of when things were to be completed. The difficult part was that I wasn't working with an interior designer so I had to design, find, and purchase the things that I wanted to put into the bathrooms but everything else, PHB handled. We've been working with Preferred Home Builders on a major remodel of our kitchen, pantry, dining room, built-in cabinets, and our daughter's bathroom. From start to (almost) finish, the experience has been fantastic. Our main contact has been Dean, and he's been excellent to work with -- easy to communicate with, always prompt, and genuinely cares about the outcome. What I appreciate most is that Dean doesn't bring problems, he brings solutions. He's thoughtful about suggesting options that make the most sense for our home, including redesigning the kitchen layout and moving appliances to make the space much more functional. The timeline has also been impressive. Every other company we spoke with quoted 10-12 weeks for a project of this size. Dean's team is wrapping up in about 6-7 weeks, and they've kept things organized the entire way. Workers and subs alike show up on time, are respectful of our home, and the quality of their craftsmanship shows. We were initially referred to Preferred Home Builders by our neighbors, who had used them for several bathroom remodels. Our first project was a time-sensitive installation of an outdoor staircase railing that we needed to complete within one month to maintain our home insurance policy. Ben from the PHB team helped us design an option that matched existing features on our home, could be completed within the month, and was within our "as cheap as possible" guideline because we had gone many years without a railing and didn't really want one. PHB completed the project on time and on budget, and our home insurance vendor maintained our coverage. A year or so later, we were finally ready to remodel our primary bathroom, so we contacted the PHB team. Ben helped map out the design (we kept all of the main fixtures in the same general locations). We set a date to start the work about 2 months later. From there, we received a detailed and color-coded list of all the purchases we needed to make (without that, we would have been completely lost) and started procuring tile, vanity/sink, toilet, faucets, medicine cabinets, and more. Our Project Manager(s) and Ben helped answer all of our questions along the way (we ended up working with three different PMs due to unexpected and planned outages). They were responsive, professional, and quick to address any bumps in the road. When a window replacement was delayed a couple of weeks, the PHB team figured out how to keep work moving along. All in, the renovation lasted about 6-7 weeks, from demo to final touch-ups, including an unplanned subfloor replacement that was discovered after the demo. We're so delighted by the final result. What went well... EVERYTHING says nobody while dealing with home renovations. Well, I can honestly say that EVERYTHING did go well with PHB!!! Dean and team took great care of our renovation. They basically gutted our entire upstairs (kitchen, bathroom, dining room and floors, along with installing floors downstairs) and rebuilt it in 8 WEEKS! They said it would take 10 1/2 weeks and completed 90% of it in 8 weeks, with small, minor odds and ends left in the final weeks. They are extremely personable, yet professional. They provided us with a calendar every Friday for the work that would be completed the following week. We paid weekly ONLY for the tasks completed. Our experience with them was AMAZING!!! Preferred Home Builders is a cut above the rest. We were a bit apprehensive when we finally decided to remodel our master bathroom. We had heard horror stories from friends and neighbors about the projects going way over budget and taking twice as long as the contractor estimated. This project involved removing and constructing walls, as well as relocating all electrical and plumbing fixtures. We interviewed four different contractors and PHB clearly stood out. The other contractors asked questions, took a few measurements and listened to our ideas. They told us that they would give us a bid in a few days. PHB's salesman and designer (Nir Cohen) spent a lot more time with us and then showed us a 3-D rendering of his design based on our ideas. We were very impressed. When it came to the bids, only PHB gave us a detailed estimate of all of the costs, whereas the other contractors just gave us a ballpark quote without any specifics. As to the actual project, we were told it would take 4-6 weeks. The final inspection occurred in four weeks and the final touch ups in five weeks. The cost also came within the budget. From what we have heard, this is unusual in the construction business as well. The team of Nir, project manager Elba Torres, and foreman Jimmy was exceptional. Nir made a detailed design with specifics of the project and shared that with the team. Elba was in near daily communication with us and responded quickly to all of our questions via text, even after hours. She also provided us with a weekly schedule of what to expect so we knew what work would be done each day and when the inspections would occur. The workers were very polite and kept the areas clean, covering floors and furniture and removing trash. Even after a very dusty demolition phase, the construction areas were well taken care of. The one critique we had was that even though there was a detailed design posted in the bathroom, some of the workers did not pay close attention to it and made some mistakes (e.g., plumbing put in the wrong place, framing for the wrong kind of door). Fortunately, we noticed the errors and they were quickly remedied before much other work progressed. Overall, we had a great experience with Preferred Home Builders and have already recommended them to others. Thank you PHB for a great remodeling experience! We give them a 9.5 out of 10. read more

Beware of bait-and-switch with lowball offer and then increasing the cost. I was quoted $167k for an ADU of a garage conversion with additional square footage after multiple back-and-forth alignment on scope and requirements with a sales person. Then owner walks the property before signing the contract and instantly increases the cost to $180k-185k giving a sales spiel of the same scope as the original cost saying how much is involved like I wasn't aware of it and included in the scope. Their reasoning for the increase? They didn't realize it needed a beam for vaulted ceilings!! The plan didn't change, just they didn't see this yet they seen every other detail. Seems super fishy. They will tell you their reputation is most important, be super nice, they have a clean license, and then pull something like this. After not proceeding, they gave my information to an independent contractor trying to get my business. I never consented to this. Who does that? No other company I've ever been in contact with has done this. Kind of ironic because the sales person warned me about other contractors doing this yet the reason I didn't go with them is because THEY did it. If they will do this before the project, they'll likely come up with other excuses during the project. read more

We had a few contractors come out to give us a quote on a full renovation for one bathroom and a shower/tub combo for another in a house my wife and I had just purchased. Preferred Home Builders was the last of the bunch, but by far the most thorough. We decided to hire them based off their stellar reviews and with how well our meeting went. Every step of the way they made it easy for us, with great recommendations on fixtures and transparency of each payment made along the way. They did such a great job that we had them redo our HVAC, replace the insulation in the attic, add drywall in the garage and new paint throughout. I met several other contractors but it was clear that Preferred were the experts in the Kitchen remodel category from the first meeting with Nir. They were transparent about pricing, discussed various options / layouts / costs, etc. I ultimately went with a design that fit my budget after several conversations with Nir.
