Our AC system was really old (over 20 years) and had been having increasing problems, we knew it was probably past it's expected lifespan and had been making repairs already; and then the compressor went out ... and during 90+ degree weather we knew we couldn't put this off until next summer; plus with the age of the system we were also worried that our heater would easily be the next to go and winter would be here soon enough. Preferred was one of the vendors that our home warranty sent out for estimates, plus we contacted a couple of others on our own for comparison. Lee with Preferred answered so many questions we had not only about the warranty coverage, but I was already aware that replacement of certain components could mean possible full upgrade requirement due to new refrigerant laws. He went above and beyond to walk through all of the potential options - much better than any of the other four estimates. The pricing was excellent; some of that cost was covered by the home warranty "upgrade" program, but none of the others had even mentioned this program as a possibility, just gave us full replacement estimates without that piece. Knowing about the upgrade program saved us literally tens of thousands of dollars. Then, the owner Anthony called us personally to talk through any additional questions before we proceeded. Their in-office assistant (I'm so sorry I don't remember her name!) also went above and beyond to answer questions about how the warranty process for full system replacement would work with payments and timing. We did go with a full system replacement. The team who came to do the actual work the day of was very thorough and professional. They were quick, they laid down cloths to protect our floors, and then cleaned up every bit of the mess from removal through replacement, even vacuuming every area (this is very appreciated). Both Lee and Anthony also made follow-up phone calls to make sure everything had gone smoothly and the system was working. So glad I went with this company. They made us feel at ease about a very expensive project. AC is still running perfectly. read more

I bought an air conditioner ..not old unit but a NEW unit. They have had to come and fix this unit 7 times since placing it into my house. They had to replace two parts thus far on the air conditioner...BRAND NEW AIR CONDITIONER THEY HAD CONTACT THE UNIT COMPANY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO. My experience with this contractor is bad. The AC part that they said are not available for several weeks, I could find it within a few days. They also charged high prices for some parts which American Home Shield did not cover. Overall, services delayed, needed constant follow-up, and I have spent considerable time to follow-up. They fix something in HVAC every year and then we have problems and they say its something else. I have spend considerable amounts with no gaurantee of quality. Will never use them but American Home Shields prefers them. read more

My home warranty company sent them to do my A/C tuneup. No tuneup was performed. They did not do any actual work or rinse my condenser coils. Instead they left the unit wide open by leaving a panel on the lawn, tried to get me to pay $225 for a chemical cleaning, and denied screwing up to the home warranty company. Updated: The owner called to threaten me with a defamation lawsuit if I didn't remove this review. I stand by this review, as the technician did NOT explain anything to me when he was here. We found Preferred Air (AKA preferred home services?) through our home warranty, and I was VERY impressed with their quality. Our tech was Matthew Ray, and he diagnosed our 13 year old compressor was getting weaker, but "unfortunately" not dead, so the home warranty wasn't going to pitch in a dime, despite the thing barely pumping out a 2 degree air differential, so the rooms just kept getting warmer and warmer during the day! They gave me a SUPER fast turn around on a quote, including negotiating a deal with the manager.. I'm talking less than 2 hours. They weren't pushy, offered me different options, gave me what seemed like unbiased opinions, and left the ball in my court. I was expecting high pressure sales, instead I got friendly service, great warranty, and a new condenser with my new unit cooling the house like a CHAMP. I highly recommend Preferred Air and Roofing. They provide free roof inspections, so no need to be hesitant. We had water leaking into the house from the roof after the storm, and they were very responsive in sending someone to inspect and check for any issues. Matt was very communicative and courteous during the visit and provided pictures of the completed work. The prices are very reasonable. Would definitely use them again in the future. read more

I found good reviews for them, so I allowed them to inspect my roof. They sent me a text saying I'd receive my estimate shortly. I never got my estimate and they don't reply to texts,so I called the company asking where my estimate was? The woman I spoke to said she would call their roofing dept and someone would call me back today. That was weeks ago. Not one word from this company. They just completely blew me off. My roof is 29 years old so I'm sure a replacement was probably necessary. How could any roofing company forfeit an $8000 job? If they could do this to me in the very beginning, I certainly wouldn't trust them to replace my roof. There is no excuse to just blow me off like this. Terrible customer service and unprofessional. Air Conditioning needed to be serviced. It took them 2 days to come out. The tech shows up and spends about 15min and thought he fixed it. After he left about15min later the problem was worse and wasn't cooling at all. When I called them back to tell them what happened. They were unapologetic and told me it would take 2 more days for the tech to come out and service it again. Absolutely insane that they would treat their customers this way. I then called a different AC Company and they came out within a few hours and fixed the problem. read more

I had the owner come out and give me a quote on replacing my ac unit . He said he would get back to me with an estimate and I also requested to try and have some plumbing work too. I never heard back from him I even called and left messages and my number twice. I ran into him Xavier "the owner" at a local Home Depot just by coincidence and he stop me and asked like maybe he sent it to the wrong email or something. I gave him my business card just so there would be no issues and it's already been a couple weeks since that happened and he has still not got back to me . We moved to League City about four years ago into an older home. We have two units (upstairs and downstairs). Our downstairs unit was about 5 years old at the time but our upstairs was original to the home (close to 20 yrs. old). We had a problem and called the home warranty company who sent Preferred Air. We had a couple of other issues come up along with some warranty-covered maintenance and the HW folks sent other contractors. Within the first 18 months we knew that Preferred Air was our PREFERRED contractor! The technicians are always friendly, clean, and knowledgeable. They take the time to listen to our concerns and answer questions even about basic things. They make recommendations with options to suit our budget and goals for our home. Kyle and Nick have really been helpful in that respect. We eventually replaced that old A/C unit and Nick and the crew were awesome. They rolled out the floor protection and my cat thought it was for her - they were all sweet to her and just walked around her! My husband asked about a plumbing issue we had and Nick sent the plumb crew out the next day to take a look and fix it for us. Best story - Sunday afternoon I realize the air out of the vent is warm! I finally get in touch with the warranty company who tells me that if the forecast is less than 100 degrees I have to wait til Monday for service. My husband calls Preferred directly and they are happy to come out but of course the service call will be a bit more. My husband calls the warranty people and tells them we want to use Preferred again so the claim is set up accordingly. That was at 1:30. By 2:09 Nick had been to the house, fixed the problem with the outside, newer unit (luckily he had the part in his van), and was gone. Never asked for a dime. I thought I was going to hug him goodbye! It's not all roses - I didn't care for the guy who came out to do our last service; I felt like he was in and out too quickly and perhaps should have caught the issue that caused the breakdown on Sunday. Overall, they have been responsive, caring, efficient, and budget-friendly and we highly recommend them for any A/C or plumbing needs! read more

They are definitely out of my list for AC services. Their representatives on the phone calls are definitely nice, but the technician named Jose who was dispatched to our house was absolutely not qualified/recommended. Our rental home got water leak from the ceiling and finally figured out it was from the AC unit in the attic. So I filed a claim with Oneguard Home Warranty company, who contracted Preferred Air for the service repair call. I specifically told the guy from the Preferred Air on the phone who was doing the scheduling to have the technician contact me 30 minutes before his arrival and if any services or repairs needed/recommended that might cost extra out of the home warranty coverage, please notify me. Jose was the technician assigned to our house, but he called more than an hour before his arrival and asked me if I was home, I told him the tenant was home waiting already, please go as early as you can. He said he needed to finish his currently job first, which might need another hour. And then he called me 2nd time about 10 minutes before his arrival asking if I was there. I told him again the tenant was already waiting when he called the first time. About 2 hours after Jose's arrival while I was wondering how thing was going, my tenant texted me and asked me if I heard from the AC technician and any pictures from text or email. I said NO and called Jose right away but Jose already left the house without fixing anything. Water was still leaking through the ceiling. This was an emergency to me, but Jose from Preferred Air came and left without doing anything to at least stop the water leak as a minimum??!!! Or at least call me before he left to check if I would like to pay him for water leak/AC repair. The reason Jose gave me was that this was a maintenance issue that the coils were too dirty and drain line probably got clogged due to the dirt from the coils. Since this is not a repair and Home Warranty does not cover, he just left without touching it. When I asked him how much it would cost to clean the coils, he quoted me $650, but it has to come from the office. And then the next day I called his office to give me a quote. The lady on the phone told me she had to check with Jose first and then I got an email quote at $850. Today I spent $250 with another AC company to do the coils and drainage cleaning for almost 3 hours job. I am very happy I didn't contract Preferred Air for this repair, and will NEVER hire them for any jobs in future. read more

Have been waiting 6 months for my new ac and heat unit to be fixed properly. American standard recommended unit be changed from vertical to horizontal position and larger plenum be installed. Paid good money for unit and cannot get any kind of response or resolution. Very frustrating. read more

This company was recommended to us by our home warranty company and they did not fix the gray water overflow problem we had. The young man that came to the house had a very poor attitude and he left the house a mess - both times he was there. Also, he was not knowledgeable about what needed to be done to fix the main problem, he did not have the correct equipment (hence the return visit), and four months later we still had the same problem.
