The appraisal contained significant issues, including omission of a relevant & comparable sale, incorrect square-footage information for one comparable property, and a condition classification that did not reflect documented updates and improvements to the home. During the inspection, the appraiser gave me his card and indicated I could contact him. When the Reconsideration of Value (ROV) process was taking an extended amount of time and my lender and AMC had not received a response, I called simply to confirm he had received the request and to help move the process forward. I was very kind. He hung up on me. In the written ROV response, the appraiser later documented that I had called to give him a "warning about what's to come," which does not reflect the nature of the conversation. The ROV response ultimately did not address several factual concerns raised, including the omission of another Prairie Creek sale in the neighborhood. If you are a homeowner, I recommend carefully reviewing any appraisal report and ensuring your lender or AMC actively follows up during an ROV process. The AMC did not follow federal guidelines, and I'm left paying for an appraisal that talks about me and is significantly below market value for Ionia County. I spent hours providing the information that was missed and inaccurate, and I would provide that here but it contains addresses, square footage and sale prices for my neighborhood. For relevance, our property was initially appraised in the $150,000 range for an updated home on water in Ionia County with homes selling in the $200,000 + range within doors of our home, including homes without water frontage.

I came in with a vintage 1978 Rolex Datejust that has been in the family since original purchase. It needed serious TLC to just be wearable. I was not an established customer, I had no previous experiences with this store. They could have easily said "Sorry, this isn't fixable, but we can sell you a new one." But they didn't brush me off. They took the time (about an hour) to explain what was and was not possible - and why. Ultimately, I just asked David 'What would you do?'. His advice was perfect. Rather than spending thousands of dollars to dramatically alter the watch with new parts etc., he said he could bring it back to wearable condition for the cost of an hour of his time. David did what he said he would do, delivered more than I expected, and I doubt they made a dollar profit from it. This place is the definition of 'class'. My vintage watch is in great shape now and will be worn on special occasions to preserve it for the next generation. In the meantime, I'm in the market for a new daily driver Rolex - and I hope to buy it here.

When I picked it up, he told me (patronizingly again) that he'd spent far more time working on it than he'd expected, and what a favor he was doing for me by not charging more than the original estimate. A couple of weeks ago, same watch started running fast, but after my initial experience at Phillipe Medwar, I was not going back to him for repair. I took it to another certified watchmaker who told me my watch had been oiled with some cheap gunk used by jewelers when they don't want to take it apart to give it real service. He said this gunk was the butt of jokes among watch repairers. He cleaned it (for real this time) for *$150*. Interestingly, the second watchmaker had been offered a job by one of the Medawars after he graduated from his program and he decided not to take it based on his interaction with them. He went on to own two jewelry stores of his own in central Michigan. So he seems pretty legit. I concur with other reviewers who mentioned Mr. Medawar's ego. That and the way he spoke to me as if I was an idiot had already convinced me I would never go back. My now perfectly working watch with the $150 cleaning confirms it.
