What a terrific find! The Watchmaker is that rare individual/business that actually delivers MORE than expected; MORE than I requested. I found The Watchmaker on Google when looking for someone to repair my Ebel watch. It had been an amazing timepiece for 30 years, but it suddenly stopped and the stem came out when I tried to reset it. I called around Muskegon and Grand Haven to find a jeweler to repair it, but no one would handle an Ebel. So I drove 45 minutes to take it to The Watchmaker in Grand Rapids. He determined that the stem wasn't broken, and repaired it on the spot--and refused to charge me! He also cleaned and polished my rings! Later in the week, I realized that it needed a new battery. My husband asked me to take his favorite watch with me. He hadn't worn it for several years, having sent it back to an "expert" twice without a lasting result. The Watchmaker replaced my battery, cleaned and polished my watch, and made sure it was waterproof--all while I waited! A week later he called to say that my husband's watch was ready. My husband is back to wearing his favorite watch every day, and both of us are thrilled with the results afforded us by The Watchmaker. I stopped by today with my late father's watch. Dad had dementia his last years. He played with the mechanics of the chronograph and the watch was in a non-working condition. I didn't know the extent of repair it would need. I had been to a few other places in town and was quoted that it would cost more to fix than the watch was worth. Shlomo was very accommodating and looked at my father's Tag very carefully like the third generation watchmaker he is. He found a few broken springs, replaced a stem and battery, cleaned and polished it, then fitted the watch to me. All while I was there. It now runs like a Swiss watch should and for only a very small sum of money. It was one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. He's very knowledgeable, experienced, yet so very patient with all my questions. He was free with his knowledge and it was very interesting to learn of watchmaking while he worked. My father gave me a VERY nice watch sometime around 1969, about the time I graduated from high school. This watch was used steadily until the 1980s, but I retired it when cheaper battery-powered watches came out. The profession I was in got the old watch very dirty, and I didn't want to destroy it. Recently I discovered my old watch in the basement and took it to a jeweler in Grand Rapids, but it was out of their league to clean and repair it. I obtained a referral for the Watchmaker and Shlomo turned it into a beautiful functional watch again, and quickly. I inherited a 30 year-old Omega Seamaster from my stepdad when he passed recently. The watch was not running most of the time and running erratically when it did. I was worried that a major repair would be required. I took it to Shlomo at The Watchmaker. In minutes he discovered that the problem was a simple improperly installed battery. He put a new battery in, new pins for the bracelet, tested it's water resistance, and cleaned up the bracelet and case.
