More then 3/4 of my tooth # 6 broke up to the gum line last year Crown or implant were the only options. Crown under condition that remnants of my tooth and root is still healthy. After X ray and examination I learned that root canal was already done. I forgot that it was done about 40 years ago and it was incomplete and that at the bottom there was already little pocket of infection. After discussion about options, chances and what if..... we decided to redo root canal and prepare tooth for crown with pin-bolt in it. And here is the best part of my experience. As a person with good understanding about using manual, power and precision tools I was amazed by skills of Dr Kasper in using them. Don't be scared about what I said about power tools because he has his own tiny tools appropriate for his profession. He has plenty of them and he is master in operating and using them. I did not fill ANY pain possible because there was no pain, but possibly because I was busy watching him and admiring his skills and precision. After two or 3 visit my root canal was done. Next my dentist molded and installed pin and put crown on the top.. And that's end of the story.... Not exactly because Dr Kasper does FOLLOW up his creations-work for two years. So today was my first follow up visit for follow up X rays. I checked the pictures and they look perfect. Doctor has to review them and send report to my dentist. My next follow up visit will be next year for another X rays. Did I say that follow up visits to Dr Kasper are free? Yes the are. So conclusion and advise for those that are looking for good endodontist. You can keep looking but I am sure that there are not many Dr Kaspers around. Dr. Tadros said he could do the root canal on that tooth, but advised against it because he didn't think (not his area of expertise) that tooth would support a crown for very long. For this he charged me $400 and called it a consultation. He had no right to charge me $400 for his five minute opinion. I talked to my dentist later the same day and he disagrees with Dr. Tadros' advice. But I'm still out $400. Losing that kind of money is devastating to me. I wouldn't feel any worse if I had been robbed on the street.

I went to Oakbrook Endodontic yesterday to see what could be done. They took a number of X-rays of the problem tooth & decided it was worth saving. Thank God The last thing I want to do is be a toothless wonder. Dr Penesis does an awesome job. He explained what need to be done to salvage the tooth and proceeded with the root canal after reviewing the x-rays. He's very through and has very good people skills. They anesthetized the area & proceeded with the work. They put a rubber block in my mouth to hold it open in the position needed to perform the work laid the chair back and proceeded. I was so relaxed as Dr Penesis and his assistant worked on my mouth I fell asleep. When I woke up they were finished. Talk about streamlined no muss, no fuss and viola completed. I wish all dental procedures could be as easy & painless as this. Thanks for making this simple, easy & painless

Even if it was, which it is not, it was very unprofessional. Root canals don't always last forever. Sometimes an infection can develop many years later, in which case you will need an apicoectomy. Next, I do not agree with how this office handles their billing. I had my surgery in March 2026. The office said before they would even schedule my surgery, they need the insurance estimate. This seemed a little off to me since I was already told by Dr Peneses that my insurance would be maxed out after the root canal, and also are you telling me you won't perform this very important surgery if the insurance doesn't pay? They had submitted an estimate to the insurance company prior to the surgery and were waiting for it to be returned before they would schedule my surgery. I did get a call back from the office stating that they had received the estimate back from the insurance company and now I could go ahead and schedule my appointment. They informed me that the insurance was going to pay X amount and that I also had a credit with them from my previous root canal surgery with them. I was informed of what the final amount that I would owe would be. I was thrilled because I knew I had enough money in my FSA to cover the remainder. Fast forward to June 2026 & I see that the money for the apioectomy had not been deducted from my FSA. I called the office to ask why & was told that they had not submitted the bill yet and the girl that does the billing was already gone for the day, so they would have her call me back tomorrow. The billing person called me back approximately 2 weeks later to let me know when they would submit the bill. JUNE 2026 & THE BILL WAS NOT SUBMITTED TO INSURANCE YET?! The surgery was done 3/30/26! Now, today, 8/4/26, I was informed that the insurance didn't pay anything because my benefit was maxed out with the previous root canal, and my final amount owed is $2,120.33. That is VERY different from what was quoted to me in March. I understand the insurance maxed out on the root canal & the office has no control over that. My complaints are: 1. Why would you tell someone a quote very different from what you actually charge them? 2. Why would you wait so long to submit a bill to the insurance company? And 3. Why would you not advise a patient from the beginning that the final amount owed is just an estimate and you may actually owe more? Idk but this seems shady to me.

I decided to go to Dr. Taglia for X-rays and second opinion. He discovered a few new cavities and showed me on my X-rays and video photography exactly what was happening to my teeth. He felt the integrity of the teeth previously in question did not need the expensive procedures. He also repaired a chip in my front tooth that the other dentist botched up. His match is perfect and no one would ever know I had a chip in my front tooth. It was nice to go to a dentist that isn't just able making tons of money.

My former dentist would not see me in a timely fashion despite my serious plight. Although a new patient, Scharfenberg Dental worked me in the day after I called. I have been an extremely satisfied, loyal patient ever since. Regular check-ups and cleanings have been so easy, fast, and convenient. I've only had a few more involved procedures but the care I have received has been well above average. The entire staff at Scharfenberg Dental is friendly, welcoming, professional, and fun. As hard as this may be to believe, I always know that I'm going to have a good time and a lot of laughs when interacting with this awesome group of people. I had put off going for years...I had problem teeth that I'd tried saving with a previous dentist but I got frustrated and stopped going. That was in the mid-, late-90s. Yeah...I waited a looooooong time. So long, in fact, it was time to throw in the towel and have them removed. Enough about my lazy history...on with the awesomeness that is Scharfenberg Dental!!! They were able to get see me quickly. Dr. Jerry listened to my story in which I took full responsibility for my predicament -this wonderful man basically said I was there now and let's take care of the problem. No judgment, just a patient man with a plan. Took care of an immediate problem right away, then scheduled the extractions shortly thereafter. The day of the surgery, I was, of course, freaking out. He had given me a pill to take a couple of hours prior to coming in. Then, it was nitrous & Novocaine. They offered headphones with Pandora, there are bird feeders strung in the trees outside...seriously, the people in this office are concerned with your comfort and well-being on every level. Everything went well...I think I remember about 30 seconds total of the hours-long procedure and honestly? I have ZERO memories of pain or even discomfort. Nothing. Dr. Jerry and the dental tech spoke in calm, soothing voices -I never freaked once. Their caring follow-up calls later that day and after truly made me feel well cared-for. During my treatment, I was handed off to Dr. Carly, who then worked with me to get full dentures. She has been an absolute delight, always cheerful, also 100% non-judgmental about my reason for being there...believe me, that's meant a lot. For the first time in over 20 years, I can now smile. Really smile. When she first put in the plates, I cried. These wonderful people gave me back my smile. Dr. Carly said something funny and as I laughed, my hand immediately covered my mouth, as I've done since the 90s. She held my hand and said, "You don't have to do that anymore." Monumental. It's said that the receptionist is the face of an office. Sharon is the sweetest, most down-home lady you'll ever meet. From her greetings to her conversations to her scheduling you to the best convenience of all, you won't find a nicer, more competent lady anywhere. This already fantastic business is fortunate to have her. Erica & Carol, the dental techs, are not only awesome at their jobs, they are super-awesome girls. They always spoke to me like a friend, not just a patient. They helped keep me calm and feel welcome, all while performing their duties well. To sum it up, run...don't walk...to this office.
