The receptionist, Claudia, repeatedly insisted that she could not speak to me because I was not my grandmother, even after I clarified several times that I was asking only about the services the firm offers to prospective clients. She even refused when I reframed the question as a potential new client seeking information about the practice. After approximately ten minutes of going in circles, I read the firm's own Google description stating that it handles estate planning and asset protection and asked whether its asset-protection services extended beyond living trusts. Claudia finally answered "no." That simple answer was all I had been requesting from the beginning. When I expressed frustration about how unnecessarily difficult and disrespectful the interaction had been, she hung up on me. I understand and respect client confidentiality. That was never the issue. Asking whether a law office provides a particular service is not a request for another client's confidential information. Based on this interaction, I would not feel comfortable trusting this office to communicate respectfully with my family.
