Leo checked me in. So sweet! It was Valentine's nite. And he was happy and welcoming me even 45 mins before closing. Not my usual gym but they are open an hour later than my gym and had to get a climb in. I hadn't been to this gym in a couple years. Fun settings on boulder routes and there was a 2nd floor that I was unaware of until that night. There is a very unusual overhung bouldering area that was very fun!!! What a way to end my Valentine's Day! With My heart on the wall! I would love to come back! Thanks Leo!

    Friday morning all to ourselves

Day 57 of my side-by-side comparison of Movement (fka Planet Granite) vs Mission Cliffs (Touchstone Gym)... look. You're both getting five stars but got different reasons, but both have really made the best of their footprint to maximize their space. +Mission Cliffs (MC) change up their routes on a rotating basis and with much more frequency. They now also have partner climbs (5.11- on the left, 5.10+ on the right for two climbers and two belayers!) - while i love/hate the MC double overhang in the corner and the slightly higher number of true stemming routes, +Movement (Mvt) has some very unique and fun features like that monster stalactite, more aggressive "pretend you're Stallone in Cliffhanger) overhangs and way more in the way of slab practice routes (which are NOT my forte indoors) are various ratings from chicken sh-- to "i totally trust my toes" + not for most but crack climbing. I think Movement has easier practice routes for first timers and those who are angry at their palms being TOO supple, but def more variety at Mvmt, but the cracks in the cylinder at MC are truly a level up. - - both have very limited free weights space/benches compared to your normal "gym" gym and you might find yourselves adding a second membership or using your building or friends building gym between climbs. Both also have small footprints and get very busy even outside of peak times ++ amazing classes though at both + see the bulletin at Mvmt for when shoe resoling comes onsite. A+ perk to arrange that onsite. ++ both have tons of community get-togethers ranging from theme nights to run clubs to game nights (last two at Mvmt) though MC started a group puzzle activity and love the MC memorial pins for their 30th anniversary. + Both have study areas. Mvmt is more of a lounge, MC is a short scramble up from the bouldering. Slight edge to Mvmt but kinda cool that MC requires approach shoes ;-) the high up stretching area at Mvmt though with the views of Alcatraz and the GG Bridge though.... wow + love love love the music at MC (Dan is the man), Mvmt is much more "eclectic" but some of the 6am EDM covers by Ava Max could be skipped (sorry). Did love that the next morning it was Bach concertos and Mozart sonatas and i think the same staff. Again "eclectic" +/- Check-minus MC for transit accessibility (not the worst walk from BART) but parking is rough; + Mvmt for parking (though paid by meter after 8am), otherwise great if you're running or cycling from Cow Hollow Both have deals for new sign ups so keep an eye on those. Summer discounts, January discounts/no initiation fee. + way more generous bring-a-friend options at Mvmt (unrestricted plus one each month on top of free days), come on MC! Don't give us bad wedding flashbacks! Everyone loves the option of a plus one (just make sure you take some photos without that person in the shot... just in case... aka HIMYM "who's that bi---???") ++ MC resets like crazy but in a very organized cycle giving you a few months tops to complete your projects; Mvmt ratings are slightly more accurate but MC is starting to migrate away (especially in the new bouldering rating approach. Still MC is the Northstar of local climbing difficulty (suuuuure this is a black diamond/suuure this is a 12a) but come on, at this age, I need that ego boost!!!!! In the end, the best gym is probably the one you can get to the easiest and where your most reliable climbing buddy(ies) go(es). Both are gems and we're lucky to have them. And yes... now I've accepted that I'll just have a third gym membership and stopped doing one dinner out a month.

    Quick speech before we climb.

Went there for a friends birthday and we had a good experience. We had a 2hr session and we got to do a good amount of climbing. The place is big and there were so many walls to climb.

Love this place. My 6yo loves it so much and made it to the top of the beginner ones. My 9yo was able to face her fear of heights in a positive atmosphere and is excited to go again. My husband climbed also and was sore the next day. Great workout. Great people.

I love this climbing gym! Shoutout for Dena for the belay lessons! It was great learning about how to safely belay our partner with pbus, pull/break/under/slide and then the check of the harness from DH56 double back, hard point, 5 parts of the rope and then more than 6 inches. It was super helpful breaking things down in a digestible way with the acornyms. Also The snowman, scarf and give it a carrot nose for the figure eight knot was super helpful. I'm so stoked to have passed and also the yoga classes are all super awesome! I look forward to my next session!

Amazing experience! Super fun and welcoming environment!! Lots of great options and could easily spend all day here :)

When I went on a Sunday afternoon, there were quite a few people there to talk or work on their laptops. The entire time I was at the studio and after, I felt like the staff was hounding me to commit to a membership. While I get that it's normal for fitness studios to reach out for post-class feedback, Ritual Hot Yoga exhausted my patience with their incessant texts and emails. I was literally getting spammed with notifications. Apart from the incompetent administrative staff, the class was delivered at such a rapid pace using esoteric jargon rather than industry standard terminology that I could not keep up and transition quickly enough, and the instructor failed to check on me throughout class. Also, since the room was really dark, it was difficult to see and copy others' movements, and the instructor walked around and often stood at the back of the room instead of demonstrating the movements at the front of the class. Worst class ever. I left Ritual Hot Yoga feeling like I hadn't worked out at all despite it being a hot class, so I immediately went to the gym afterwords to get in an actual workout. Ritual Hot Yoga wasted both my time and money. I will never return and have de-influenced my friends from coming here.

I have been in San Francisco for two years and have tried out a few places in the community but wasn't able to find a place that I felt like an extension of my personal practice, until I came to folk. the selection of class types is expansive, and each teacher i've been guided by have reconnected me with different parts of my own practice I had felt distance with. Roy helped me smile with my playful side again, Justin has led me back to flowing with the cyclical nature of life, and Audrey's presence and instruction has become a light in the lantern i carry towards my deepest healing (Roy's pigeon coo as well). I am so grateful each time I walk up and down the stone path beside Nopa studio, the people are kind, and I have felt safe in whatever energy I enter with.... and that energy always feels better as I leave.
