You couldn't even sit in it for fear of what you may be sitting on. The outside of the camper was just as disgusting. I guess it never occurred to the campground owners to power wash it. I spent at least two hours cleaning and disinfecting the camper that we were told was new. Lies. If I was on this trip alone, I would have left immediately. Reluctantly I paid my bill - almost $200 a night! I still feel like disputing with my charge card company because we were lied to and taken advantage of. Not sure how they live with themselves renting this camper to people. When I went to the office to complain, they had the nerve to tell me it was cleaned. I am not an idiot.

The camp map needs a lot to be desired since the sited are placed among the trees. We stayed three nights and should have stayed longer. Boulder Junction 10 miles away and Walmart 17 miles away. I don't get how this campground was rated a 4.9 out of 5.0. They call it peaceful pines, there is NO peace. The boat launch is right there. Noisy from sunrise to sunset. If that didn't get to you, there is a major road with a lot of noisy traffic. We watched two sites across the way become vacant the day before we left. Check out 10 sharp, but I never saw anyone come out to the sites to check if it was ready for the next campers. Don't you think it could have been cleaned, maybe raked, something. Now the owners were pleasant, but man you talk about noise, from drilling, sawing, banging. I understand they have to work around the campground, but could the majority of the work wait until mid to late fall? We called before coming to find out if there was a place to take our dog to the water. Was told "Oh yes"! Down by the boat landing, take a right (risk your life with tree limbs). There is NO PLACE to take your dog. No beaches allow dogs. They tend to cater to the seasonal people and their cabins. It's sad that our first time will be our last time. Who needs a pool when you're basically across the boat launch parking lot from Eagle Lake? The staff was beyond friendly and the self service model for wood and ice with Venmo and cash options was great. It was a smaller campground but had everything you truly needed, plus the option of renting one of their two pontoons. As much as is possible with a boat, it came with white glove service. They put it in the water for you and when you were done at the end of the day you gave them a call and they came and loaded it back up. Matt was awesome and gave some recommendations for spots to stop while out on the water. It couldn't have been an easier way to explore the Eagle River chain. We would definitely stay again and play try out their small cabin options at some point.

With the new ownership of this campground, they appear to be going above and beyond to be sure their campground is updated. We chose this campground in 2015 and are so pleased that we did. The host is easy to work with but assures that all the campers are treated well and the owner continues to improve the campground. We love having the entire Chain O'Lakes at our disposal. The golf course is just down the road, so when we have guests they an golf also. Several of their docks are new and improved. Also, having the Tiki Bar so close offers food and a fun place to hang out if you just need something different. It was absolutely the right choice for us.

A great option is to stop here while exploring the Apostle Islands or the Bayfield area. Once inside the park, follow the main road past the ranger station until it ends at the parking lot, where you'll find restrooms and the Doughboy Trailhead. This is a beautiful park and well worth the stop, especially if you plan it alongside other northern Wisconsin adventures.
