I interviewed a few masonry companies for repairing spalling brick in my basement. Some wanted to…read moreparge the walls, which was not what I wanted. Some quoted me fairly high prices for the repair, but Martin Forde offered me the best, and most reasonable cost for the job. During our interview Martin struck me as a competent, and fair mason and he is responsive by email, which are valuable traits in a contractor. We scheduled the job, and he and his team showed up right on time. The first thing I learned is that Forde masonry may not have a full time staff. Martin definitely came out to my job periodically to deliver materials, but the masons who did the work were actually two latinos who seemed to be day laborers. They were competent, and very polite as I asked questions in my broken Spanish, but that makes accountability a little more difficult. That became a problem when I was in the basement with another contractor, and I saw one of the mason repairing a hole that was two withes thick. He was just repairing the outward face that I could see, but leaving a whole in the second layer. I asked him about it, so he dropped some mortar into the hole, a few bricks, and kept on with his repair. Yes, it visually looks fine and I would not have noticed if I were not watching as the hole was getting closed up, but that is not what I expect when I hire a professional mason to repair my walls. My job is done though, and I hopefully will not need masonry help for a while. Most of the issues I had are easily fixed with a little more attention to detail, and oversight, so I would encourage others to give Martin a chance if you need masonry help.

Frank was a no show to give me an estimate, no communication that he was running late or unable to make it. He accommodated coming early one morning to give an estimate that seemed fair. Fast forward to when they were scheduled to do the work, 30 minutes past start time no sign of Frank's team and no communication. Contact the office find out that they won't make it today. My experience has been poor communication and unreliableness. Won't be giving them a chance to reschedule and waste anymore of my time. It was a small job so maybe not worth the effort to provide good customer service. Seeing the business's response adding this - I understand things happen and I am not expecting perfection by any means but a little bit of respect for my time and communication would have been nice.

Finally we were at the point where I could cover the studs and insulation and I am glad I didn't leave that in scope for my GC. I looked around a bit and found these guys. I don't have much to add that the other reviews haven't. Frank was communicative throughout the process from quote through execution and final invoicing. His crew got started right after we approved the work and they were onsite every day working to get the work done. He brought over a crew of like 4 or 5 guys who hung the drywall, mudded, sanded, primed and painted the ceiling of the 2 garage bays, enclosed stairwell and 500sqft bonus room with high ceiling, in like 5 days! If my GC would have been scoped to do this it would have been a 2 month process. Frank personally did a walk through with me after. Highly recommend.

And the last time, they didn't even have the courtesy to follow up, to apologize...nothing. I took off from work three different afternoons and they didn't even bother to apologize. I wouldn't consider using them now and will be bad mouthing them to anyone I know looking for a plasterer. Pretty stupid way to treat a potential customer in the age of the internet review. Incidentally, I originally contacted them because they have such amazing reviews on a website called "Customer Lobby." After a little research on this site, I learned that this is not a legit review site: the business being reviewed manipulates the reviews, keeping the ones they like, dumping the ones they don't.

After a month of attempting to schedule this quick job, I was finally told on Friday at 4pm someone would be at my house Saturday at 8am. No one showed up. Upon speaking with the owner on Monday, he said to not take it personally, and they would have someone come out whenever they could "fit me in". I understand this has been a horrible winter with damage in the northeast, however I would never disrespect one of my clients by committing to a time, and then not showing up. If this job was too small, I would clearly have appreciated hearing that up front and continued calling other plaster companies.
