Dr. Williamson is very professional, but also friendly, and I appreciate that he has taken the time to get to know me over the years. I love that his philosophy is to fix issues as they need fixing rather than filling every problem tooth immediately. His skill is unmatched when it comes to cosmetic dentistry. He had to perform a root canal and put a crown on a front tooth due to a kayaking incident, and a dentist here in Asheville didn't believe me that it was not my real tooth, so that is saying something. I'm a single father of 3 boys and I took my son out of school for a routine cleaning and check up and everything went well until I requested to see his x-rays. The dentist was combative, rude and arrogant and I have never been treated this way before...ever! After my son's routine cleaning and x-ray (which was incredibly overpriced at $400), I asked the dentist to show me the x-ray while she explained the concerns of a cavity, because it helps to have a visual to better understand the issue. Instead of being accommodating, the dentist chose to be combative and argumentative going on a tirade about her process and how long she has been a dentist. Not to mention, they tried to hustle me out of $50 for appt. cancellation fee. when I called for an appointment they rushed me into a slot the next day (a sign that business is not doing so well these days). When I had to reschedule, they still attempted to charge me! ridiculous! Now for context, I have been going to this dentist for over 5 years for myself and my family, so I'm very familiar with their processes and prices so you can imagine how surprised and appalled I was! The quality of service and professionalism is at an all time low here! Which is very disappointing because this use to be a credible, reliable and friendly practice.

Since they were pleased with their results and pain relief during their procedures, I thought I'd give them a try. Jana was most helpful answering my initial questions over the phone and was able to schedule me for a consultation the next day. Jana welcomed me as I entered and handled follow up questions, paperwork and scheduling with a smile. The office is very relaxing, with a peaceful waterfall and beautiful fish tank. Wendy helped take care of some films for review. She was understanding of my angst and eager to ease fears, which Jana and Wendy both handled well. Dr. Gudger took his time with me, answering all my questions/concerns with expertise. I didn't feel rushed nor pushed into further work, at all. In fact, when I brought up other issues, he gently brought the focus back to my initial concern, which was an extraction and implant with sedation. They used intentionally vague language to mislead me into believing they were a participating provider.Furthermore, while I was captive in the operatory chair in acute physical distress awaiting an emergency extraction on molar #30, they forced a clipboard of financial paperwork in front of me to sign. Obtaining financial signatures under medical duress is highly unethical.Now that my insurance company has processed the claims, the true nature of their billing has been exposed:According to my official Guardian Explanation of Benefits (EOB), my total patient responsibility for the submitted procedures is $1,002.00.This office charged my cards a staggering $1,874.00 upfront on the day of service ($1,000 on credit, $874 on debit).They are currently withholding an unexplained overage of $872.00, completely off the insurance books, and failed to provide a clear, line-item itemized bill detailing where my money was distributed.A review of their other 1-star reviews shows this is a documented, systematic pattern of trapping emergency patients who are too in pain to question them. I have formally demanded a full itemized ledger audit and a refund of the $872.00 overcharge. If this is not resolved immediately, this matter is being escalated directly to the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners for ethics violations, the NC Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division for deceptive marketing, and my banking institutions for fraudulent overcollection.Avoid this clinic if you are in an emergency. Atlantic Family Dental- Garner I wish I could be honest…read moreabout what I experienced there and give them a negative 5 stars. They were the most unprofessional, incompetent, and untrustworthy dental group I've ever experienced. It took them almost a month to treat me because they were denying that, both, of my doctors hadn't sent back my clearance form. My doctors sent me proof of the fax that was sent weeks ago. I called my insurance carrier to look into to it. The next day, the finally had it. I needed a deep cleaning, a filling, and my wisdom tooth extracted. The dentists did nothing, they watched and trained others, without asking my permission, then they wanted me to call someone else for my wisdom tooth. I was also told, I had gum disease but I didn't see that in the report. I will have more dental work done, but it won't be there, and I wouldn't advise anyone go to Atlantic Family Dental, at Garner, if they care about their teeth. I'm going to ask my next dentist to check their work before begining, because I don't want anyone else to be help responsible for their unprofessionalism and possible incompetence.
