I highly recommend Peter and the team at Prevail Conditioning. Prior to discovering Prevail, I had been a part of a couple CrossFit experiences followed by a short stint at a gym that was high cardio. I was missing the strength & conditioning and this class is just what I was looking for. Peter and his team are highly qualified/trained/certified and it shows pretty much immediately. They are very engaged and constantly correcting and reinforcing proper movements versus being left to our own devices or learning bad habits. I can't recommend Prevail enough. I spent a year and a half working out here after a sedentary life, and they've changed me for the better. When I first joined, I was weak and recovering from back surgery. The whole team made me feel welcome and comfortable in the gym despite plenty of self-doubt. They worked with me to focus on my core and help me get back to a baseline fitness level and then exceed it. THe Prevail approach focuses on the whole person. Weak or strong, old or young, small or large, they will customize a workout for you and make you feel welcome and like you can achieve anything. I worked with Chris P. and Kyle during the 18 months or so I spent at the gym and cannot recommend them highly enough. Both trainers were amazing and pushed me when I needed to be pushed, but never harder than I could handle. I am in their debt. Peter, the owner, is very hands on and clearly cares about the results of each and every client. The whole team is beyond anything I could have imagined. Working out is such a generic term. Some people's definition of "working out" is getting up from the couch every few minutes while others definition is doing a 100 mile bike ride. What makes Prevail different than everyone else is that their staff trains the movement patterns of our body. They push, teach, train and motivate their clients to move better, which in turn makes us less prine to injury, correct nagging injuries or issues that we all have or face. Even though I mainly worked with Erin, the whole team at Prevail (Peter, Chris, Wyatt, etc.) is simply excellent. I have been going to prevail for about three weeks now and it's the first time I actually look forward to going to the gym. Exactly a year ago, I made a commitment to myself that I wanted to become stronger. At the time I had a two year old son, and each day I realized in order to be able to keep up with him and literally be able to pick him up, I needed to build some serious strength. I have always considered myself a healthy and active person, but I had never consistently done strength training never mind correctly! When I joined Prevail, I couldn't do a proper push-up. Over the weeks and months, I started noticing my form improving. My body started to change slowly. I was standing taller, but most importantly I had more energy throughout the day. My mental attitude and overall quality of life has seriously never been better. I really look forward to each class. The trainers are unlike any I have ever worked with. Each class is so intelligently designed that I know everything I'm doing is building onto something else and preparing my body for the next step. I feel I'm being guided carefully to make sure I'm performing correctly so that I don't hurt myself. Because I'm a working mom, finding time for myself has proven to be very difficult. I belonged to a gym in SB for several years until the pandemic, but even before that I felt that as a 'young' senior citizen I didn't feel like it was the right place. When I got serious about my health and fitness I checked out a lot of gyms . Nothing measured up to what I found at Prevail Conditioning. Prior to signing up I had a meeting with one of the owners who discussed with me my current and past health issues and my goals. I found him thorough, friendly and genuine. I immediately signed up for a semi private training program where I work out alongside a supportive group of a few other members who are, under the trainer's watchful eye, working on their own programs to achieve their goals. For me it's a great situation. They also offer one on one private training and group classes in person or via zoom. My husband who as a now retired entertainment executive, sat at a desk for 40 years. He is currently working privately with Kayla to strengthen and work on balance and movement and is feeling better each week. This is a very purposed gym for people who want to age well into their later years as well as student athletes and anyone who cares about themselves. I am 60 + and mentally I think of myself around 30 but after working with Christopher at Prevail for 1 1/2 years, I am truly aging backwards physically. I am stronger, more confident and have better balance and endurance and amaze myself with what I am able to do now. I had a small setack about a year ago when I pulled a muscle near my knee and was unable to walk. Peter called me every day to see how I was doing, suggested exercises to strengthen the muscles around my knee and referred me to a well regarded doctor and physical therapist. I heard about Prevail's Adult Sports Conditioning class through some friends that were signed up. They were doing the class to improve their strength, speed and agility on the beach volleyball courts. I thought "Dang, I can really benefit from that!" Plus, I had just took a month off from playing beach volleyball and was feeling pretty out of shape. I paid $10 for a trial class. It was awesome! The workout program was customized for specific exercises that were focused on exactly what I wanted. In addition to Allie (Instructor), Peter (Owner) was helping out. Both were making me fine tune positioning and techniques to isolate specific muscle groups that were weak. I was really impressed. Quickly (like less than 3 classes) I was noticing that I was jumping higher and turning quicker on the beach volleyball court. I was so happy. I continue to do their workouts. From world class and professional athletes all the way down the ladder to people like me, a once decent intramural-ist who still loves to move and play, we can all benefit from Prevail's scientifically excellent, holistic approach to fitness, strength training and movement. I've enjoyed 7 or 8 years of working out in various, small-group classes with Chris, Peter, and their team. By consistently focusing on all-around strength, improved flexibility and movement, counteracting the too many hours I spend each day sitting in front of a computer, I've enjoyed a long season of far fewer injuries, longer ski days, fun and games with my kids, better fitness on the bike, in the water, and hiking . . . the list goes on. I was so happy that the senior group fitness classes (twice a week) had resumed at Prevail after one long year of the COVID--19 restriction was lifted. When I first started there 3 years ago I was nowhere near the fitness level that I am in now. At that time I was physically very active but one day I experienced severe hip pain while walking. No surgery was needed but my MD prescribed 20 physical therapy sessions. After those 20 sessions I went to Prevail. That was very best choice I made for recovery and maintenance of my agility and strength. At Prevail I find the trainers are very knowledgeable - more like my 20 physical therapy session exercises. Awesome gym!! I have been working out here for over four months and have already seen some great strength and size gains. The coaches care more about your overall well being and body than how much weight you can lift. With the careful attention to body position, movement and over all fitness level these coaches know how to not only get you stronger but know what your body is capable of. I spent over two years working out at different CrossFit gyms and after working out at Prevail, I would not go back. The attention to the body from the Prevail trainers makes a world of difference. They suggest a physical therapy appointment with their in house PT, which will let them know the strengths and weaknesses of your body and where to focus (highly recommend!!). I'm not a competitive performance athlete, so I thought this place wasn't for me. Walking by on my way to Renegade wines, I saw the slick space and was intrigued. I've been working with Peter and Erin in group classes and individual training since the beginning of the year. They are extremely caring and know their stuff. Ask them about training World class athletes! They train and teach for a life long body. They have smaller classes, lots of attention, and longer time scale programming series (compared to what I was used to at Crossfit) - which once I understood, I could appreciate the build up versus aiming for quick gains. I started training with Chris at Prevail Conditioning because I decided I wanted to compete in an NPC (National Physique Committee) show in the Bikini category and I wanted his help getting ready for it. I had competed twice last year and was unable to achieve the look I wanted, which was frustrating. I knew if I was really going to make a change & improve myself, I needed to seek help from the most knowledgeable person I know which happens to be Chris! I really struggle with building muscle and until I worked out with Chris I had never been able to gain any, especially in my upper body. We trained for a little over 3 months, doing 3 days of upper body at first which was the most I had ever done & it was definitely challenging but he got me through it. We measured my bodyfat & tracked my progress regularly & everything was going in the right direction but then we hit a small bump in the road when I lost 2lbs of muscle. That was the turning point where Chris' expertise really kicked in and magic was made;) I say that because, in training for past shows, I had also run into a similar weight loss issue but this time we approached it differently and I was able to get my all my 2lbs. of muscle back and then some! I know it was a result of switching 2 key components of my program. One change he made was switching my supplements. I began taking some Advocare supplements and they made a HUGE difference! I took Catalyst before my cardio workouts, Mass Impact prior to my strength workouts & Muscle Gain immediately after my strength workouts. I didn't use the Muscle Gain at first because it was slightly higher in calories than I thought I could have but since I had lost weight it was exactly what I needed to get my muscle mass back. The other change he made was to switch my cardio to interval training so instead of spending 30 minutes doing regular cardio I did shorter, more intense cardio. The last week before my show I did those twice a day & it made a *huge* difference in getting my bodyfat down while maintaining my muscle. I had never done my cardio that way before so it was difficult but my body responded quickly so they did the trick! By the day of the show, my body had been completely transformed! I had gained 4 pounds of muscle & got down to 15.5% bodyfat. It was a long, hard journey but the end result was my best stage look yet---I couldn't have been happier & all my friends noticed how much of an improvement I had made from my other shows. I had such a great time & I felt confident & happy with my look so I really showed it off on stage like never before! And I owe it all to Chris! If any ladies out there are like me & need help transforming their bodies (for a show or otherwise) Prevail Conditioning is the place to go! Best gym in Santa Barbara. I have been working out at Prevail for almost a year. They offer personal training, physical therapy, massage, as well as small groups. They moved to an expansive new facility in November 2015. Their equipment is top notch and in excellent shape. However, my favorite things about Prevail are the knowledge of the staff and the family atmosphere. The staff uses a holistic and evidence-based approach to work with you to improve your health. They provide counseling on nutrition and sleep. The family atmosphere attracted me to Prevail Conditioning. It is nice to have friendly faces between the staff and other patrons. You don't see that at most gyms. I look forward to working out here when I am scheduled for workouts. I like the accountability that working out with friends provides. I had a Martial Arts related injury that set me back quite a bit in terms of strength and mobility, despite doing my PT and everything else that I could I just couldn't get back to where I was before. Peter Blumert from Prevail Conditioning changed that! I walk better, I stand better and I'm stronger that I have been in a long time. Peter is extremely knowledgeable and pays extreme attention to every single detail of body movement during training. If my head is off slightly, or my hips are not precisely aligned or anything at all in my form is not absolutely perfect, he will correct that until my pattern is strong and fluid and I completely own it! And just to top it all off, Prevail Conditioning got me in a nutrition program that is a complete game changer, literally, it changed everything! No quick, temporary depriving, fad diet of sorts but, real attainable life changing small increments that you can carry on forever. First time working with a trainer for me. The initial evaluation with a physical therapist was extremely valuable. The exercise program Peter has put me on has made me feel better overall and I feel a lot stronger. He originally designed a program to help improve my golf game and the results have been great. When a friend told me about an opportunity to train at prevail, I wasn't really sure what they were all about. I knew they were personal trainers but I didn't know to what extent. I came to them shortly after returning to jiu jitsu( I had taken a break when my daughter was born and then was in a car accident shortly after). My Jiu jitsu training was going well but I was having a hard time getting back to the shape I was in before the accident & baby. I October 2011 I had just won the Kilometer time trial at the Paralympic track national championships and had qualified to represent my country at the 2012 track world championships held in the very same velodrome in Los Angeles. With a big goal being a medal in the team sprint at worlds where I had taken 4th the year before, I was looking for a new gym program to give me an extra boost. My sports psychologist recommended Prevail to me as a gym that would help me gain the strength and speed needed for elite track cycling. The trainers and classes at Prevail are amazing. World class strength and conditioning at normal person prices. I've been doing the SPARQ class for 2.5 years and love it. Chris Ecklund (two degrees and multiple credentials, a true professional) is so knowledgeable and creative that we haven't done the same workout twice. He is incredibly attentive to our form and makes sure we don't get injured by lifting incorrectly. I am 50 + and I have longstanding chronic pain and injuries. I wanted a trainer who could work in conjunction with Dr. Hyashita, DPT who would gently push me forward without aggravating my injures.
