Let this be known: Erica, the lady at the front desk, was completely unempathetic and tone deaf when it came to helping a customer who had just suffered from a very traumatic experience. I have no respect or tolerance for people or staff of any facility who are not understanding and rude to others who are going through a difficult time. The fact that this is the greeting face of your clinic is shameful and extremely unprofessional. I HIGHLY recommend that staff undergo training in regards to customer support and care because no care or support was shown when fees were still demanded from someone who had been suffering from a coma. Extremely, extremely disappointing and of poor quality and character. I don't understand how the clinic expects to retain returning customers when money and interests are valued higher than the well-being of their customers. This is the go-to spay and neuter clinic for Richmond Animal Care & Control and they are very efficient and low cost. I brought my cat here to be neutered and he required a more invasive surgery due to unilateral cryptorchidism. I was able to drop him off in the morning and pick him up at the end of the work day. I was provided with thorough paperwork on what the procedure would entail and aftercare instructions, and was also given pain medication if my cat needed it. Other than being understandably loopy after surgery her was back to his normal self in no time and healed well. I absolutely recommend this vet for affordable spay and neuter for all pets. read more

Absolutely horrible service when you arrive. This review is also for the 2 other cars that waited for over half an hour to be seen while people were arriving much later and were being seen. Once you get there, they ask you to park in the back lot in a parking spot. We arrived at our appointment time at 8 am and waited until 8:30 to be seen to start the paperwork. 5 other cars arrived much later than us in between that time and we're all seen before us because there isn't a system where they take whoever came first. There is 1 tech that runs in and out of the business and whoever she sees closest to her she speaks to. FYI, the closer you park to the business the better your chances. On that note, do not stress about being on time, as they emphasis, because you'll be seen much later. People will show up much later, even late, than you and if the one individual they have walking around outside car to cad happens to pick you that's how you'll be next. I've never seen a business operate on such a high school sort of system. I spoke to the other cars there and they were just as pissed as people arriving late were seen way before them. I've never been the person to leave a review, never wanted to waste my time but it was that egregious and this individual did not care. My baby was not behaving like his usual snap happy self. He was lethargic, sensitive to touch and would not move off from my bed. He usually jumps up off my bed and follows me around the house while I get ready before we go downstairs to let him out to potty and play. I was extremely worried and my son and I called around to find a animal hospital that would see him immediately. Covid and the fact that our previous vet is no longer in business really impacted us finding a availability quickly. We called Carytown Animal Hospital and they accommodated us quickly, although were there for hours. They took good care of my baby and he was terrorizing us in no time at all! This is where I brought my little furbaby to get her spayed. We actually brought our furbaby here one the day that we were legally able to adopt her and got her prescription and shots. We prepaid for her spayed surgery and was placed on their waiting list and was told of the date/month of when to expect the call (and of course of any early cancellations). I think we were on the list for about a month before we got the call that they had an opening the next week. You bet I jumped on that appointment. I love how they remind you of what is needed before dropping off the pet and what to expect after picking them up. Especially after the surgery and sent us home with a reminder sheet of how to care for your pet after surgery. The staffs are fantastic and this is a very well organized location. I'm so glad that this place was available for us to get the shots and microchip at an affordable price for us families who did not plan on getting a dog this year haha. Be sure to check out their website, I believe their prices actually went up on a few things. Amazing start to finish. They set expectations in the voice mail and on the website. They are obviously busy due to extraordinary pricing but they met the expectations they set. Very professional and organized with Covid protocols from drop off to pick up. 3 cats (brothers) fixed and all the shots for $180...would have cost $500-$600 at the vet I WAS going to. I was referred by a friend to get my cat fixed at this location ! I checked the prices and they were the most affordable in the area. The only difficulty was obtaining a neuter appointment due to high booking rate. My cat was dropped off in the morning and I picked him up in the evening ! I was given some free Dewormer and my cat was very loopy but loved his tummy rubs . The next day my cat is fine and purring , it's like he never had surgery ! Dear PAL, thank you for what you do. I've been coming here for over a year to get my dog's shots because of their fantastic walk-in hours. Miso gets excited whenever she sees the clinic and prances straight into the back without fear. They have a full menu of shots and tests, and also do micro chips and pet licenses. There's also heartworm pills or topicals for sale in 1 month or 6 month supply. It can get busy but we are in and out within an hour. Staff is friendly, and so are the other pet owners in the waiting area. 2 stars for the prices. That's it. They claim to be able to handle stressed/scared cats except they let him out of his carrier stress them out even more by chasing them around the room, causing one person to get bit and my cat to only get one vaccination. After multiple warnings of how scared he was and reassurances that they "got this"...they didn't have it at all. After she got bit they threatened to call animal control and quarantine our cat. Meanwhile the woman who was complaining about her bite was wrestling a large dog into a room WITH her "injured"hand. Makes tots sense right. Also, my 3 perfectly healthy cats came back with respiratory viruses. We ended up taking them to a more reputable vet who said that they caught the virus from prevent a litter. I'm so angry. We're now on week 3 of this terrible virus and my cats can't stop sneezing or coughing. If you value your pets health and want someone who actually listens to you about your pets needs then go somewhere else!!!! read more

They still offer vaccinations on: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. 10-3. There is an automatic office visit fee of 5$ for those walk in vaccinations. The fee is 20$ for a heartworm test, once it's an "ok" they'll give you a 6 mo supply of heartworm medicine for your pet. They offer micro chipping, rabies, parvo, bordetella, and your basic feline vaccinations. Why not 5 stars? They remove your pet from your sight during said visits, Which I neither like or agree with, made a comment about how my bulldog piddled when they man handled her for her blood draw, (My dog is a brute (big), but she doesn't growl or bite, and she's not a piddler. To know they caused her that much fright that she'd pee, has me knowing they're careless and excessively rough.) Lastly, the front desk staff is rude and they don't bother trying to hide it. We were "gifted" a rescue cat that had no health records. I was totally freaking when I discovered he had worms. Especially since we have FIVE other cats. The new cat is the only one that is technically mine, so I had no clue what vet to go to. I knew there were a few in Carytown where I live, but I knew most were for emergency care. PAL is sort of "hidden" across the street from the McDonald's, in a row of doll and Christmas shops, but not hard to find. We were helped quickly-they were not concerned that the animal had not been seen there before, and the girl who helped us was SO NICE! They took my cat back, gave him a de-wormer pill, recommended the medicine to treat all the rest of the cats (which I got), and answered every question I had about what to do at home. I wasn't charged with an "office visit", only for all of the medicine-what a pleasant surprise. PAL provides spay and neutering services and other surgery I highly recommend it as an affordable place for vet services. They even put a little knit blanket in Smokey's carrier. What? Who does that? If you are an animal lover looking for a place to make a DONATION, this place is it. read more

PAL is a hidden gem tucked away on Cary Street. They work mostly with local rescues, but provide quality affordable spays and neuters to anyone who needs their pet fixed. I've also bought heartworm meds CHEAP here... and the staff is super nice, and very used to working with skittish dogs. They aren't a full-service vet so they don't do shots or anything like that, but for what they do offer, they do a great job. I've had several foster dogs of mine spayed/neutered at PAL and it's always been no-hassle- just make an appt, bring the dog in, leave him/her overnight, and then go pick them up! No complicated paperwork, no crying animals in the hospital, it smells clean... overall, very pleasant. read more

PAL is a lifesaver. Their prices are amazingly reasonable since they're a non-profit, and their little storefront is really charming and comforting. They even have good prices on the miscellaneous merchandise they sell. The waiting room has a mural on all 4 walls, covered with names and memorials of pets, which is really interesting to look at if you have to wait. The people who work there are very courteous and understanding. My pet rabbit got neutered here before I adopted him, so they do spay/neuter rabbits, even though I don't think they say it on their website. I don't know the exact cost, but I'd wager that their rabbit spay/neuter price is better than any nearby vets, and I don't think there are too many bunny vets in the area to begin with! Just a note for my fellow bun owners out there. (P.S. Spaying/neutering a rabbit is pretty much necessary for its health.) Side note: don't try to do a walk-in on a Saturday, especially if you don't know what to expect in Carytown. It's crowded, to say the least, and it's a one-way street with limited parking. Final side note: they have a little donation box for printer cartridge/cell phone recycling, if you need somewhere to bring those! It's at the front corner of the frontmost room. read more

I brought my two dogs in a few years ago when they were around a year or two old, to get neutered and vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested, and meds at amazing prices and service! PAL was recommended to me by their friends at Helping Hands Vet from across the street. My dogs are now 5-6 years old and I still think of the amazing service and affordable prices they provided and still continue to provide. I always recommend PAL and their friends across the street to friends and family even though I'm usually a few hours away either from VA Beach or Maryland, the drive is definitely worth it! read more

After adopting my two kittens from the Richmond SPCA I was referred here to get their preventative shots and vaccinations. Walk-ins are from 10AM - 3PM. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They made me feel right at home and assisted me with getting my two kittens set up for their shots. There was a bit of a wait since I came close to lunch time, but talking with other pet owners and relaxing in the cool waiting room made the wait more fun. The staff seriously care about and love animals. Once the veterinarian came back from lunch they gave my two kittens shots, processed payment, and I was well on my way. Will definitely come back here as well as donate to this amazing non profit organization. read more

I was pleasantly suprised by the cuteness and cleanliness of this tiny rowhouse...hardly seems big enough to handle the amount and type of work they do, but they do. Their biggest problem, is you cannot communicate with them....their phones dont even ring, everything goes to voicemail and it took me three weeks to get a call. Even the day of surgery, there is no ability to contact them. They do have an emergency number they give you, the day of surgery, but that person is usually not onsite. The good thing is, you can always just GO there and walk in. Cant beat the price and they do excellent work and seem to be very gentle and nice ot the animals. read more
