After I waited 2 hours, I went to the receptionist and was told that it could be another 3 hours my cat would have to wait. And could even be longer than that. They just leave you waiting in the room. Nobody comes in while you are waiting. You just sit. Was told that we had to wait just like a hospital for humans. I have never waited in the emergency room 5 hours or longer. There weren't that many cars in the parking lot. So thoughtless and inconsiderate. After I was told that it would be 3 hours or more, I called Virginia Veterinary Center in Shortpump. They told me to come right over. As soon as I got there, they took my cat's vitals and told me they would take us back. One half hour later, they brought us back. We waited another 20 minutes for the doctor. He came in. Did an exam and 10 minutes later my cat got fluids in her for about an hour. It took 3 hours tops. I have to be honest with you. I wish I could have given a zero star to Blue pearl. There is absolutely no reason that anyone should have to wait 5 hours or more for an emergency pet hospital to be seen by the veterinarian. Unfair and scary, worrying for your pet around people who obviously don't care if you are there or not. A total waste of time.

Though his initial treatment went well, we noticed he still wasn't himself, which led us to request further tests before a planned trip. That's when we received the devastating news that Bodhi had spleen cancer. From that moment, everything moved quickly. Bodhi was admitted to the ER and then ICU, where he stayed for several days. It was an emotional rollercoaster, but the kindness and compassion shown by every staff member--from the front desk to the ICU--helped us through it. Special thanks to Dr. Pierre, who cared for Bodhi daily with extraordinary patience and empathy. Knowing Bodhi was clean, comfortable, and treated with such love made it easier to leave him, even though it broke our hearts. On August 30, 2025, we said goodbye to our sweet boy. As much as we hoped to bring him home, we know he was in the best place possible--receiving the care he needed, including medication during a seizure that we couldn't have managed on our own. Bodhi fought hard, but in the end, he let us know it was time. We told him how deeply we loved him and that it was okay to go be with Waylon. Losing both our boys so close together has been unbearable, but we take comfort in knowing we did everything we could--and that's thanks to the exceptional support and care we received. The front desk experience was unpleasant, including rude interactions with us and others in the waiting room. Dr. Copenhaver was kind and professional. She explained that our dog's initial ultrasound showed pulmonary contusions and discussed oxygen, labs, X-rays, and possible hospitalization. She asked us to wait in the waiting area and someone would get us shortly to see our dog. Based on that conversation, we believed treatment was underway. About an hour later, Michelle took us to a room and presented us with an estimate of $3,500-$3,800 and said, "No treatment is done until you sign the estimate." Before agreeing to hospitalization, I repeatedly asked to speak with Dr. Copenhaver again and said I was willing to wait. Instead, we were given another estimate of approximately $1,700 without hospitalization. When I asked what had actually been done while we were waiting and how my dog was doing, Michelle told me she did not know, only that she was in an oxygen cage. She then stated, "We would be doing more, but we've been waiting for y'all to agree and sign the estimate." The cost was not my primary concern. I was being asked to make a significant decision while the person presenting the estimate could not tell me my dog's condition, and I could not speak with the vet. We ultimately left against medical advice as I'd rather follow up with her normal vet than keep her at a facility with staff that treated people the way Michelle was treating us. The following evening, animal control came to our home after someone from the veterinary facility contacted them with concerns about our animals and our injured dog. The officer observed our injured beagle. She was alert, wagging her tail, and breathing normally. She was moving slower than normal but she had just been hit by a UTV. The officer complimented us on our kennel set up and was surprised our beagle was doing so well after the report they received. I fully support reporting legitimate animal-welfare concerns, but I wanted to understand what prompted this report, especially since no one from Partners contacted us to ask how our dog was doing or about follow-up care. Before posting this review, I emailed Partners asking for clarification and whether contacting animal control is standard practice when an owner declines hospitalization or leaves against medical advice. I received NO response, and that was sent on 9/17/26. Again, Dr. Copenhaver was compassionate and professional. Unfortunately, the communication afterward, the animal-control report, and the lack of response to my concerns left us extremely disappointed and felt it necessary to warn other pet owners.

She was exceptional: very caring, explained everything and how a tail stitch can be difficult especially with a hyper pup that loves wagging his tail. Unfortunately, my recent experience changed my confidence in the practice. My cat is FIV-positive and has recurrent upper respiratory infections. After completing the prescribed treatment without improvement, I called because he was still congested. I was told he needed another appointment, which I scheduled. On the morning of that appointment, I was notified it was canceled because the veterinarian became ill. I completely understand that illnesses happen. What disappointed me was what happened afterward. I asked whether another veterinarian could see him that day or review his recent exam and treatment history since he had just been seen and had not improved. I was repeatedly told my options were an appointment the following week or an emergency hospital, despite explaining that an emergency visit was not financially feasible. I left feeling that there was no continuity of care for an established patient with a chronic condition. This wasn't a canceled "well visit" it was a sick visit that the clinic canceled without any resolution - such as have another Vet see my cat or at least review his chart and possibly speak with me. I transferred my cat's care to another Veterinary practice, where the veterinarian took the time to evaluate him, perform diagnostics, explain her reasoning, and develop a treatment plan. In the past week, the new Vet's office has seen him twice, has called me twice with updates on his labwork, and is checking in with me tomorrow - before the weekend. Before posting this review, I emailed the owner directly. She responded promptly, apologized, and told me she would investigate because my experience sounded unusual. I appreciated that response. However, despite waiting ONE week, I never received the follow-up I was told to expect. Their pricing was straightforward and transparent, with the flat fee including blood work and everything else needed for the procedure. When I arrived, the intake process took about 30 minutes, and the staff carefully walked me through exactly what they were going to do. They told me I could pick my cat up around 5 PM, which gave me the rest of the day to explore Richmond. While waiting, I grabbed breakfast at The Fancy Biscuit, walked around Virginia Commonwealth University, did the canal walk, learned about the history of the bridge the Confederates destroyed while retreating from Union forces, and even stopped by a brewery with an amazing outdoor area. Richmond ended up being a really great day trip. When I picked my cat up, they told me he did great. He did end up needing many teeth removed, but I could immediately tell he had been well cared for. We're now two days post-op and he's already eating again. They also sent us home with all the medication he needed. This place is absolutely amazing.
