Price chopper was one of the first stores other than Safeway that I remember my mother shopping in frequently as a child. I've never had any bad experiences within a price chopper. I remember my mother always being happy shopping there and every time I went I've been happy there. But there are no perfect stores, we all know this but this particular location comes pretty close, matter fact it's about as close to perfection as you can get. The store is located near a major roadway. The signage is very large however the wording could be a little more colorful as well as the building but that's neither here nor there. Parking is very ample and pretty much anytime of the day you can come and get a good spot. Once you step inside it is absolutely beautiful. They have their produce separated from the other parts of the store which I actually like that. I never liked going into a grocery store finding fruits surrounded by other products but that's just my pet peeve. The isles are extremely neat and clean and plentifully shelved. It's well lit and very bright and inviting. There are no strange odors (believe me some store do have that issue) just fresh and clean. The bathrooms are immaculate and I can't stress enough how important that is to me. So many grocery stores, restaurants, schools have beautiful designs beautiful products but then when you go to the bathroom it is in disarray and smells horrible. Not this place it is absolutely beautiful. To top it off the staff are very friendly and seem motivated and happy to work and to please the customer. I haven't been in this location before but other price choppers I've been at and although I never had any complaints with any Price chopper chains, this one by far outweighs the others. They seem to Go above and beyond what is already satisfactory and that is the kind of store I love to give my business. read more

Very unique and awesome Price Chopper. I have never been in a Price Chopper quite like this. It is located in an old car dealership building (is what it looks like). They kept the open, minimalist, industrial feel. The produce department is ENORMOUS and has garage doors that they open up on nice days. The seafood and meat department is much bigger than most Price Choppers. They have all kinds of fresh meats and seafood available. The bakery has everything from fresh breads to donuts to Mexican sweet breads. They have a lot of good ethnic options. Definitely will be going back. read more

Medium sized grocery store but has so much items to choose from. Wide variety of fresh produce, meats and other products. Prices are very reasonable, and oftentimes a lot of discounted products and produce. Isles are wide so it's easy to move around. Parking is not always a problem. It's a little more "Hispanic" in nature than a normal Price Chopper but that doesn't take away from the place at all. I'm not a huge fan of the set up because there are random rows and things in various places that I wouldn't normally expect but the prices are legit. I came in on Sunday for my "monthly big grocery shopping" and walked out spending $65 and saving $29. For a girl who loves deals, this definitely made me happy. Besides the parents not caring about their screaming kids and having to wait in a long check-out line, I'd say this was a success. read more

This Price Chopper is super close to home so we visit it pretty regularly. I know this been mentioned before but FRESH, HANDMADE TORTILLAS! They are seriously one of the main draws for us because they are so much better than any other store bought tortilla available. I stock up on those puppies and they last for weeks in the fridge. Produce is usually a decent price and fresh. They have crazy deals on limes often (10 for $1) and I love that they carry a ton of traditionally Hispanic items. I can't speak for their seafood or meat department as I typically purchase elsewhere. read more

Other than Trader Joe's this is the only grocery store that I will drive across town to shop at. I love this P.C. for the extensive Mexican selection, it rivals the HEB stores that I have visited in Monterrey, MX. The produce selection is as good as it gets in KC! The meat counter is the star of the show for me. Whenever I want to make fajita's or street tacos at home this is where I come for the seasoned meats to grill or stir fry. Great seafood counter, bakery, and tortillas made in house. The only negative is that it's 15 miles from home. read more

My new neighborhood store and I love it. I found out the locals call this Mexi Chopper. The Mexican food selection is better than most bodegas in the traditional neighborhoods. The produce is super fresh and superior to most stores I usually shop at. They even make their own chorizo which I have yet to try, but am going to very soon. Ah Price Chopper, a good supermarket chain, but one that you literally get what you pay for. This location has most of everything you would think is in a supermarket. Of the food, the produce offers a good and quite fresh selection complete with a small section of organic offerings if you lean that way. The meat section has what you would expect. I do wish they had more prepared dishes like bacon-wrapped fillets or stuffed mushrooms that other grocery stores carry, but the space here isn't available. The seafood section is surprisingly well stocked considering Kansas City's geographic location. As noted in other reviews, the store is in an area where there is a demand for Mexican food and drink options. There are a couple of aisles dedicated to the cause and they carry a diverse set of offerings. If you're a Mexican food fan then you will enjoy walking up and down these aisles. What concerns me about this store is sometimes the amount of time some of the food is allowed to stay on display. While shopping I've found some meat that looks to have been out a while and has begun to start turning color. Sometimes it's marked down, but otherwise it's just there. I've also gone to buy milk and noticed that some of the milk is over and very very close to the expiration date. I'm not sure if somebody is there to watch these or at least try to cycle product through so that it can be properly sold, but this is something I would like to see this store improve upon. read more

This is an amazing Price Chopper. One of the biggest and best produce sections in town, it's huge. Huge selection of Mexican products, you can even buy a pinata here! They make fresh tortillas on-site. The downfall for me is the layout of the store. I wish someone would give me a map. The store has aisles that run vertical, but not continuously, broken up by aisles that run horizontally with a road block here and a road block there..... Sorry, my description is probably as confusing as the layout. I don't know about the deli or meat counter because I don't shop those areas often enough to have a comment. The service is always nice. It's really the produce section, fresh tortillas and variety of some ethnic foods that make me love this store so much. read more

This price chopper has authentic Mexican food. If you want homemade flour tortillas and bolillos come here. They're selection of Hispanic food is impressive. I really like this grocery store. It's convenient because my office is at 48th & Rainbow, and it's not out of my way to stop on my way home south via I-35. If you drive 35 south or north it's just south of the 18th St/Roeland Dr. exit. Also, it's the Mexican Price Chopper, which means great produce, fresh tortillas (corn and wheat), and the kind of meat counter I appreciate. I generally try to cook from scratch, for good flavor and to save money, and one of the things I love is to make (and eat) soup. And they sell chicken necks (for 69c/lb, and backs sometimes for about the same), and also chicken feet for when I want dinosaur soup. :) A couple of dollars worth of chicken necks, roasted in the oven in the broth pot for a while, makes a half-gallon of lovely chicken broth. The in-house choriso is very good also. When I don't have time to go up to Central Ave in KCK to El Torito II, which is a lot of the time, I go here. Plus they have Anderson Erickson dairy products, which I prefer, and El Torito does not. read more

Yes, yes, yes it is true the Hispanic/Mexican food here is a great reason to go here to shop, plus they make their own tortillas and have fresh cactus? Crazy good! Ok now, this store is not known for carrying health food. It simply doesn't have the huge selection of gluten-free and soy products that I can get at Hyvee. (although it does carry GNFF tofu) Except for tonight! Yes, I was on a quest for gluten- free Asian sauces such as Soy sauce, Hoisin sauce, Teriyaki sauce, Oyster sauce. Price Chopper ruled! They have such a large Asian department here that they carry all kinds of sauces, including gluten-free!! So move over Hy-Vee & watch out, Price Chopper is coming after your gluten-free image! At this Price Chopper the gluten-free products are right on the shelf next to the non-GF products. So they must be slowly adding them in, you just have to start looking! I think I'll be looking more carefully next visit. read more

This is by far my favorite grocery store. If they'd start carrying Shatto milk, I could be convinced to forsake all other stores. First of all, their produce is amazing: fresh and extensive in variety. Another highlight is their freshly made tortillas. Their bakery-made hamburger and hot dog buns are great, too. Other reviewers have mentioned their Mexican food selection, but they have a pretty ample selection of other ethic foods as well. They have everything I need to make Thai spring rolls, for example. I do care a great deal for the Mexican products, though. The individual bottles of Jarritos in every conceivable flavor and the imported Coca-Cola made with sugar instead of corn syrup...very nice. Finally, I really like their self-checkout station. It comes in handy for quick jaunts to the store and I don't mind forgoing the $.05 canvas bag refund in favor of getting out the door quickly. read more

Besides my beloved downtown Cosentino's (mostly because I can walk there), this Price Chopper is my absolute favorite grocery store to go to. My little Precio Tajador with your lovely, warm tortillas and bountiful local produce department. Almost everything I'd want I can find here. Besides the produce, though, they don't have a very extensive local selection. But having local produce is totally worth it for me. That's hard to find around here. read more

Oh, let me count the ways: 1) Fresh tortillas made in house twice daily! 2) The "crema de la casa" is like liquid gold, think expensive French cream but tastier and WAY cheaper! 3) The house made chorizo! 4) The % plethora of Latin produce...SO many items that one is unable to find elsewhere in Kansas City! The store is kept in fairly good shape, is clean, and the service has always been great! If you have not ventured to this hidden Latin gem, then you need to as soon as you get some free time! This is my favorite Price Chopper in town. It's different than most because of the huge hispanic population in the area. Therefore, they stock a very large portion of Mexican items that aren't available at most Price Choppers or other groceries. Also, the produce section is the best in town. It's twice the size of most grocery store produce sections, and for the most part everything is fresh and local. It's one of the few places in town you can get good chilis year round. The rest of the store is pretty much like any other Price Chopper so I won't go into detail. But I will tell a fun story. A couple of years ago, my friends and I at work would bring in salsas and hot sauces every Wednesday. The key was to bring in the hottest sauce you can find. We called it Hot Sauce Humpday. Anyway, it became quite popular around our building and we would have many unexpected guests come by because they had heard about it. One day the CIO of my company stopped by and partook in the festivities. He was really enjoying the salsa and decided to tell us about this great place in town to get ingredients for salsa. He said there was this place near his house called "Price Chopper" and they had great Mexican ingredients. His house was in Mission Hills and I'm pretty sure his maid did all the shopping and he didn't pay attention while his driver was driving him around town. Unfortunately, we didn't get to hear any more of this place called "Price Chopper" because he was fired the very next day. Which was a lucky break for me since I laughed in his face when he told me about "Price Chopper". read more

Oh El Choppo, why can't your brothers be just like you. This store is large and in charge. They have a large assortment of fruits and vegetables. A tortillaria in the middle turning out fresh tortillas by the dozen. A pretty decent meat section with pre-seasoned pastor, fajita meat, etc. They also have fresh store made chorizo which I will sample in the next day or two. The meats also seemed to be lower priced than the same meat at the Price Chopper I usually go to. The fish counter is decent with an array of different fish and shellfish offerings. They have a $1 or less aisle!!!!??!!! Most of the fresh produce are also well priced. Great bargains. I agree with the other reviews. They do have a lot of Latino products. Can you say SALSA and Tortilla chips? MMMM GOOD. I'll go here when it's time to compete in the chili contests to get the fresh stuff. Try the rotisserie turkey slices at the deli. They are really good and are decently priced. It's a pretty good size store. Plan to buy medical related stuff? The receipt calculates the Health Savings so it's easy to get reimbursed if you have a health savings account. Neat! I pretty much found everything I wanted EXCEPT Soy Yogurt. So, they carry lots of Soy Milk, but no OSoy? Kind of odd as they did at the Hyvee and the Consentino's. The freezer section seemed a bit smaller and oddly balanced. OF COURSE!! 3 major reasons to come here: -The produce section is INSANE! -The Asian food selection is the largest in any grocery store that I have seen. -They sell sirloin tip steak thinly sliced ( perfect for stir fry and fajitas). I simultaneously love and hate El Chopper. It is so big it took some time to learn, but the selection is excellent. Especially when preparing Mexican fare. I once complained there was a lack of selection in European, etc. cheeses and cured meats as in pancetta or prosciutto. Well guess what? I was asked to complete a survey online where I shared this. Pros: Wonderful help from folks like Mario in the produce section, who approaches folks who look like they may need assistance, and offers friendly advice and help. I love this Price Chopper! My friend and I refer to it as the "Mexican Price Chopper" due to the huge selection of Mexican Products. Love that they make fresh tortillas on site. Also, huge produce section! They always have my favorite apples (McIntosh) which wins big points for me. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because the layout of the store is tricky. I'm always backtracking. Also, the organic section is severely lacking. They need to jump on board with the folks at Hy-Vee. My co-workers don't understand why I always choose Price Chopper over Hen House, HyVee, Target, and Wal-Mart for my grocery shopping. This Price Chopper is why. It is always clean, easy to park, and has a great selection. Produce is abundant, someone is always stocking it! Besides Aldi, I go here to get most of my basic groceries. I love how it is adapted to the mix of customers in the area, while still stocking all the basic other items. Very impressed with my shopping experience here today. I came around 9:30am and there was hardly any customers inside the store. It made my shopping a lot easier. I was greeted at the front door with a live band and free samples of different types of fruit. Not something I was expecting for a Tuesday but definitely a pleasant surprise. All the employees were very friendly and easy to talk to! My check out experience was great too. This is a paradise for lovers of Mexican cuisine. Fresh baked bolillo and telera rolls and tortillas every day. Excellent selection of dried and fresh peppers, from manzano, habanero, chile de arbol, guajillo, etc. They even have jicama and fresh nopales! They frequently run specials on avocados and limes. I can find almost everything I need to make authentic Mexican food here, which is thrilling. It's extremely rare that I have to drive elsewhere for ingredients. Overall grocery selection is good, and they have other basic ingredients for other world cuisines, and a pretty decent shelf-stable organic section. I've always had good luck with the meat and produce. Staff has always been polite, and the place is clean and seems well-run. They used to have a good Mexican restaurant in the entry area, but it's closed now, so I have to make my own food. Great selection, and if you shop the sales, competitive prices. I stopped in here to get some balloons blown up at the floral counter. First, I stopped at customer service and they sent me to floral without paging someone to come to floral. We waited 5 minutes then went to the deli counter and asked for help. They pages someone from floral to come. We waited another five minutes and walked back to the front of the store and asked a cashier to page floral. She did. We waited another five minutes and still nothing. We had lots of employees looking at us not offering to help as we just stood there waiting. Another five minutes went by and a young man from the produce section came to tell us someone should be coming from floral. Another seven minutes before someone finally came. read more

We used to refer to this Price Chopper as the Mexican Price Chopper because of their large selection of Hispanic goods and produce. Now that we have a nice SunFresh in our own back yard (18th and I-70) we seldom go to this Price Chopper any more. I will say that the store is conveniently located, easy to get in and out of, priced reasonably and it has a nice produce and ethnic section. Meats and other products are above average. This price chopper is one of the best I've been to, it's a really nice place that's clean and I never have problems with the people that work there but they are always nice and help me every time I need help, they have a pharmacy and a small place where you can sit down and eat the food you just bought, they even have a salad buffet which is not something I'm into but if you are then you might like that, and I've been going there for years and it's always been a good grocery store, I say this place definitely deserves a five star rating because not only does it succeed in being a grocery store but in being a place to eat with the food you brought and being a pharmacy, they even have a Starbucks so if you're into that then this would be your grocery store. read more

All price choppers seem to amaze me, but this one is very special to me. I'm not sure, well we can be almost sure this location is influenced by the neighborhood it's in. This is the first time I seen a fresh tortilla making section in the store. Amen for that. I came for banana chips and was so pleased I roamed thee entire store. The fresh section doesn't get enough praise. It was everything and more. Fresh meats packed up from nice looking butchers. Hot food and sides also packed by a nice looking young man. Older Latinas in the bread and fresh tortilla section. Everything is so easy to find. Let me say that again.. Everything IS SO EASY TO FIND! Things are labels almost everywhere and not just over the aisles. They are within the entire aisle honey yes. To top everything off, there is a seating area where u don't have to leave the store to eat at all. Bring the family and have dinner if you would like no worries. I heart this place.
