Was looking forward to the Prime Rib dinner for two we purchased for our Thanksgiving today - @$75 we expected it to be pretty good. Unfortunately it was not. Sides were bland but typical Thanksgiving ones but we expected that. It was the Prime Rib that really disappointed. I don't think I've ever seen prime rib served with such an enormous hunk of fat. Usually there's some along the side but this was between 1/4 and 1/3 of the serving

This Hen House is the bomb! They recently remodeled and it is working for them! Great produce selection. A juice bar with an orange juice machine to get you super fresh juice. A giant salad bar with lots of choices. The hot food option is huge: hibachi, sandwiches, sushi, traditional hot food bar (fried chicken, potatoes, etc.). They have a huge selection of cheese. The bakery is awesome (love those Tippins pies!). Then you've got the meat and seafood area. So many choices and so many friendly faces to assist you! It's even worth it to just stroll through and see what they've done with the place. You won't be disappointed!

I'm never near a Henhouse except for once a month, when I have my eyebrows waxed. This is right next to European Wax Center. I had a small list. I generally enjoy shopping at Hen House. I judge a grocery store by the looks of produce and their bakery, if applicable. Then I walk up and down the aisles. My list was pretty basic. I liked the aisles and availability of food. When you enter, you seem to walk through a small walkway in the middle of their floral department. I found out later it was the side of a Starbucks. Nice florals, by the way. I shopped for what I needed, and noticed they have items other stores might not carry. Their produce is bright and pretty. I walked to the bakery department, and there's basic kiddish cakes and grown up cakes, frosting piped cleanly, not sloppy like some grocery stores. Cookies and pies were also available. I didn't see that the prices were any more than our local Hy-Vee. Now, for the check out. I bet that can become a hot mess during high volume of customers. They have self check outs, but I'm leery, and usually steer clear of that. The cashier gave me a Hen House card, and I saved nearly $2.50. All in all, it's a nice, fresh store, and one inwhich I wish we had in this area.

Wonderful choices here, original, crafty and cool. Yummy things to make you drool or jump in the pool. Ok just come shop here so I can get off this rhyme train

Mongolian BBQ station in deli. I mean come ON! Amazing.

Mongolian BBQ Flat Top Grill. In the deli. Better than hu-hot. Better than BD's. Fresh veggies, not frozen. Steamed rice. Brown or White and the stir fry is served ON the rice which is how I like it done. Only gripe: the sauces are bottled and not homemade. I mean it's fine. We can't have EVERYTHING in life can we? Best grocery store add evah!

Hen house florists did my wedding bouquet

I love this hen house location! My husband and I are here every week either getting coffee, sampling the cheeses, buying fresh flowers for the apartment, or stocking up on groceries. Though things may be pricier here, the fresh selection of EVERYTHING keeps me coming back! I first visited this location after I read reviews about their florists on theknot.com. I walked in with saved pictures of what I had in mind and they sat me down and generated an estimate that was half the price of other estimates I had recieved from other florists! The florists at Hen House did a wonderful job of gathering all the flowers and greenery I needed for my wedding. I wanted lots of fresh greenery (one that was only found in warmer states) and they had it shipped from Florida! The Juliet roses were ordered in bulk as well. I was in love with all the bouquets and boutineres! Thank you to the florists at Hen House!!

I have quite a few colors of the TJ cooler bag and they are great bags. I use them everyday. I absolutely love when they come out either the brown bag, grab bag surprise packs! Usually around the holidays and if I'm lucky enough to get there before they are sold out, I grab a stack to give some fir gifts AND to have some to open to get my fix throughout the year. I guess that speaks to the popularity but I wish they had even more inventory. I have been trying to figure out which grocery store had those fruit shaped cakes. I walked into World Fresh Market. The front of the produce reminded me of City Market. Beyond the produce, not a regular store. This grocery store has the prettiest cakes I've ever seen. There's flan larger than a regular cake. There's bags of iced cookies. Breads of all types. Oh, they also have tacos plus a Mexican restaurant attached. The bakery winds around to the middle of the store. Those fruit shaped cakes? Right there. So cute and looking yummy. I can't say enough about the bakery. I bought little fruit shaped watermelon fruit cakes. I also bought pistachio filled croissants. This is absolutely my favorite store. I'll be back cause I'm in this area often. But seriously, stop by the bakery and get a mousse cake if you want to be the favorite at a potluck.

Unfortunately that's not what happened and I was too hungry to say anything. I had the falafel bowl. The dude just piled up whatever was in the bins & threw them in the bowl with some kind of awkward semi organized manner, while *completely* ignoring the hummus and the garlic sauce. I swore he put the hummus in first, but at the end I asked him if there was Hummus in my falafel bowl- and the answer was no. As in NO HUMMUS IN A FALAFEL BOWL. I also wanted garlic sauce and he refused to put it into MY food only on the side like some kind of lame afterthought for the flavor impaired. My buddy got the shawarma wrap, which looked more like a taquito. They put french fries in the shawarma wrap, along with a little bit of shawarma- and not much else. The advertise price was $9.99 but when we got to the register the price became $11.99. when we brought it to their attention that his shawarma wrap was not actually what they charged us - which they called a "viral ribeye shawarma" they try to tell us the extra $2 was for the nine french fries they added to the package. I GET that were in Kansas, and there's not too many folks that even know what a falafel or shawarma is- but these guys who spoke the language of these regions so they certainly do, or I guess I should say- they used to know what it was. I am quite disappointed by what they've become, I hope they understand this- but I probably won't find myself willing to give it another shot for a while.

But this review is more a story about how this place operates. Every Veteran's Day area HyVee's have a breakfast for Vets. My little brother (Army Vet) and I (Navy Vet) go each year. Mostly so we can let the people at HyVee know that we appreciate not only the breakfast but that they as a company and as individuals that VOLUNTEER to work the event, are deeply appreciated. So special shout-out to them for their time and consideration! As for the grocery store itself. It is exactly what you want out of a grocery store. Some of the things I really love: Bright and Clean Huge Selection Meat counter people are really helpful Food counters are usually well stocked and organized. Some things that need improvement: Produce selection. Good Basics but there seems to be no expanded offerings. Also while on produce... they at one time had a lot of the precut onion and veg and did a good job maintaining that. But, that has slipped. Bakery. So many wonderful options. But, there is no one willing to talk with anybody at that counter ever. And the one thing that bugs me about every grocery store... impolite shoppers! Hey, we all want to get in and get out with what we hafta get... we can do so politely and courteously. Look up. Pay attention to what is going on around you. Ask yourself if you are going to be specifically getting in someones way/personal space? I recently attended a somewhat fancy "Tasting Tea Party" here, which was part delightful and fun,…read moreand part awkward and disappointing. The table setting was lovely, with small vases of roses, and it was a great way to gather with 5 friends for a fun afternoon. They provide tiered towers of small sweet and savory treats, which included a delicious pastry with bits of pear, a slice of tasty cheesecake to top with strawberry jam, salmon with cream cheese rolled in a crepe, and a tasty but crumbly tiny sandwich. Each tower was shared by 2 people with one of everything for each. However, they weren't all "finger food," and some were too messy to pick up, and/or too big to eat in any dainty way in one clean bite! So we had to ask for small plates to put them on, and utensils of some sort...and more napkins, of course! It seemed those kinds of things should' have been provided or anticipated without our having to ask or go get them ourselves. We expected they would serve various teas by pouring a small amount in our individual cups to try, and tell us what kind we were tasting, and then come back in a bit with the next kind to taste as we munched on treats. Instead we got individual teapots, in which we could only choose one flavor to brew, when we all wanted to try them all...it was supposed to be a tasting!! But having 6 pots of unlabeled teas, and not remembering which was what, and everyone wanting to taste all made it unnecessarily complicated. And continually passing 6 different pots of unknown teas back and forth across the table was cumbersome and confusing. We tried to write each type on a napkin and twist them around the teapot handles, but those didn't stick! And if you didn't like one kind, or more, there was nothing to pour the remainder from your cup into in order to try the next. So one of us left the table to ask for a "tea-spittoon" so to speak. A good time was had by all, but it wasn't an event we would want to do again at the European Market and Cafe. It is a fascinating market with a large variety of packaged foods and candies from many countries. It would be very helpful to be multilingual in order to read the labels to know what they are! You can also enjoy a meal in the cafe, and/or carry out some pre-prepared fresh specialty foods, pastries and desserts. But be prepared for a little sticker shock. Then again, I guess that's common everywhere these days!

I also had a decaf iced latte, which was tasty. Both my mom and I agreed that the food was good and richly flavored. The employee who served us was both nice and knowledgeable, answering any questions we had about food options we weren't familiar with in easy to understand, succinct terms. When I went (mid afternoon on a Tuesday) it was pretty quiet, with one employee in the front and a couple of other patrons seated. There was some pop music in the background on low volume, which I appreciated. Overall the vibe at that time of day on a weekday was very calm. I'm interested in checking out their karaoke, live music, and tea time nights/events in the future. They definitely look like fun ways to spend some time! Ultimately, if you're looking for good, casual European fare, including Eastern European, or even if you're just curious, I absolutely recommend European Market and Cafe.
