Given all the things that had to be done along the way, the manager gave me a good deal on a couple of the other issues that were repaired, which made feel they were very value conscious. Among the firms that I reached out to through Yelp, they were the first on the site and ready to start work. I'd definitely use them again.

I reached out to Dunn initially through a Google search (after hours) and received an email and text message reply within 24hrs. I appreciate the prompt reply. I called the next day and their phone system used an automated AI response initially, but I was then rerouted and able to speak with a service person. They dispatched a technician, diagnosed my issues, sent quote estimates to my email, followed up with a confirmed booking, and came out within the next day with the proper part to service my broken system. Before the serviceman arrived, I received text updates with pictures of who to expect and with their estimated time of arrival. The communication, timeliness and efficient service provided by Dunn was exceptional. They charge a standard assessment fee which is factored into the overall cost of service. I would recommend Dunn if you're local to their service areas.

Well I guess if something is going to go wrong it's going to wrong when everyone is closed. I googled AC repair for my area and got about a dozen hits. Now let the calling begin. Allen Service Company was the second one I called out of 5. I left a message for all of them. Got a call back but couldn't get to me until Monday evening. It's mid July in central Alabama. It's hot in this house. Well I set an appointment for Monday evening. Gonna have to leave work early. About the time I got off the phone from setting up my appointment it rang again. It's Allen Service Company and the young man is a life saver. He is on call and can be here in 20 minutes. He explained the service call charges and they were very reasonable, actually lower than the guy that can't get here until tomorrow evening. The technician shows up and within 5 minutes has the problem diagnosed. 15 minutes later my AC is up and running again. Figures up all the charges and I happily pay the man. I figured with it being Sunday it was going to be outrageously expensive, but no it was very reasonable. Did an awesome job. Checked everything else and all looked good. Very professional. Didn't try to sell me something I didn't need. Did I mention it is Sunday, mid July, central Alabama. It's hot. If you need anything done, give these folks a call. Repair, replace, new install. They can do it all.

Negatives: I was charged $600 (in addition to the higher weekend fee to come out) for a repair that took 20 minutes and required no parts. It was two different charges that didn't really make sense because you couldn't have really done one without the other. It felt like I was taken advantage of as a single woman on a holiday weekend who didn't know how easy/quick the repair would be when I agreed to the cost. The service man also told me that the credit card payment on his tablet wasn't working so I had to pay by check. I wasn't planning to dispute a charge, but this made it to where I didn't have the option. I responded to two different text surveys with this rating and information and was assured both times that the service manager would follow up and they never did. My father also called multiple times and never got follow up. I was waiting until we heard back from them before I posted a negative review (I communicated this to them), but it's now been over 4 weeks. I have used them for repairs before without issue, but will not be using them again and would not recommend them to my friends/family/neighbors.

After researching the part online, I found the replacement cartridge available for less than $75. It appears to be a 30-minute job. I asked the supervisor for a breakdown of the cost between labor and material. He said that they don't give a breakdown. They appear to be hiding their labor cost, which seems to be very high. I wouldn't let the technician do the job and pay an $80 fee for the visit.

The plumber showed up on time, which initially seemed promising. I led him to the issue and clearly explained what needed fixing. He briefly touched the faucet handle and tapped the wall, then asked to inspect the plumbing from the basement. After glancing at the water lines leading to the bathroom, he informed me he'd step out to his vehicle to "write up a quote." About 20 minutes later, he returned with a legal pad and handed me a quote: approximately $1,700. The estimate included installation of shutoff valves in the basement -- completely unrelated to the original problem. Naturally, I declined and asked if he was going to address the leaking faucet, since that was the purpose of my call and I needed to resume my day. His response? "That's my quote. That's what I see needs to be done." At that point, I politely asked him to leave. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I was furious -- not only did he refuse to address the issue I called about, but he did so with an arrogant tone. I will never use Standard Heating, Cooling & Plumbing again, and I'll make sure others are equally informed. And yes, I still had to pay the $80.00 visit fee, despite the fact that he tried to inflate a minor repair into a major project I didn't ask for or need. I couldn't help but think: if I were a senior citizen, he might've had a field day. That's unacceptable.
